第四回目は小唄『松づくし』を配信させていただきます。
『松づくし』は松の名所を詠いこんだ歌詞で、「松尽大黒舞」として地歌で唄われるようになった曲です。江戸に入って大衆的な流行歌となり、扇を松に見立てて鮮やかに舞うところが見どころです。お座敷の幇間芸としても愛されてきました。

i ain’t understand nothing but this is very cool and so fascinating❤
I didn’t really understand either because I don’t actually know Japanese but I know a little. I also know a bit about traditional Japanese dance (I take lessons) so I got the gist of what he was saying.
He was showing the different types and sizes of dance fans they use in the Yamamura School of dance. He is the sixth head of the Yamamura School, Yamamura Tomogoro (山村友五郎)
The smallest fan he shows is the one that child dancers use now. It’s like 26 cm long. In the past when their dances were mainly performed in small tatami rooms adult dancers used that size as well. Now that the dancers perform mainly on stage in theatres they use a larger fan. The fan they use now is about 29cm long.
The largest fan he shows (the one that’s white with blue stripes) is called a Shimai-ōgi. They’re a little longer than 33cm. Theyre used for Noh dance but Yamamura School dancers use them sometimes as well. I didn’t understand exactly what he said but the kanji that were showing when he was talking about it included the titles of several Noh plays I recognize. So I think they use a Shimai-ōgi with dances/songs that tell the story of Noh plays.
He also talks about how the bones of the fans the Yamamura School uses are a little different than the bones of the fans used by other schools of dance. The bones for the fans the Yamamura School uses are completely flat. He thinks they’re easier to use.
After giving information about the various dance fans used by the Yamamura School he performs a dance called Matsu Zukushi (松づくし). The lyrics of the song are about various famous pine trees located in various historical sites around Japan. It’s a congratulatory/celebratory dance/song. If I remember correctly it’s mainly performed around New Year.
