In 1977 , 12 year old me saw Anne Boleyn looking out ofa window opposite the window I was lookig through. She wore a peacock blue and gold dress and was sad till our eyes met . She smiled and vanished. I turned to my Dad , who did not see her but could see an enormous wing of the Palace( totally empty ) which we were sure we had not seen. Dad said to a security guard , What's that?" "Anne Boleyn's apartments" was the reply. We asked if we could see them, as we are descended from Anne's sister, but no one allowed as they're Anne Boleyn's apartments and that's that! Years later I learnt there is a portrait of Anne in said peacock blue and gold dress now available in a part of the Palace unavailable when I went in 1977. But here is the twist- Anne Boleyn 's apartments have not existed since late 17th century....so I went back in 2006 and stared out that window and there was no wing to see....
I had a very similar experience at Hever Castle. I was staying at the B&B a couple of years ago in a room that overlooked the Castle. When I arrived back after a walk around the grounds (around 8.30pm ish) I noticed three ceiling lights had been switched on inside the otherwise dark Castle. The Morning Room, Anne Boleyn’s childhood bedroom/Nursery and the far end of the Long Gallery were all lit up, so much so that I could make out the wooden panelling on the walls. The lights stayed on for around 45 minutes and then all went dark. The next day I asked the staff inside the Castle if an event had occurred the previous night, which would explain the lights. They confirmed that nothing had happened and were just as puzzled as me. I bumped into Dr Owen Emmerson too who confirmed the same. Very odd. What struck me about your experience is that it was those same three rooms. I’ve visited Hever many times over the years, this has only happened once. Who knows…!🤔
While visiting the tower of London, I was standing in front of the crystal monument erected in honor of those who were beheaded. I was thinking about Anne when I heard her clearly say, 'I am innocent, i did not do these things'. I feel quite honored to have heard her
Thank you Natalie for this deliciously spooky episode. When visiting historical sites there is normally a point in the day when you discover you are the only visitor left in the room. Whenever this happens I often find a marked change in atmosphere. It never feels as though you are quite alone.
My skeptical friend and I went on the Tower of London Ghost Tour, and during the tour, we found ourselves in a room once used by royals when they stayed overnight. At one point, we were separated, and from across the room, I noticed something odd happening to her as she stood near the hearth. As soon as the yeoman finished speaking, I hurried over to her, and she told me she felt as if someone had been squeezing her so tightly that she could hardly breathe. Years later, I did some research and discovered that many believe Guy Fawkes haunts the tower and is known for squeezing people… Thank you for sharing your experience with Dr. Owen! That sounds incredible, and I’m not sure I would have slept a wink after witnessing something like that!
My parents always taught us that we are never alone. The atmosphere records events. When my husband and I visited Hampton Court Palace, we sensed that the previous inhabitants were all around us. It felt natural though, not strange. This was where they lived, so we were the strangers. Not them.
Of course the Boleyn’s would appear for their favorite champions 😊 Amazing story. I loved staying at Hever and walking the grounds after hours as well. So magical.
My friend and i stayed at Hever just before Christmas 2019. We walked through the grounds up to the bridge it was then pitch black so we walked back, the gardens gates were locked so we walked around them, i distinctly heard footsteps, i said to my friend someones following us, i felt uneasy but sort of giggly and tried to get in front of her, back in reception i asked if there were tales similar, or if there was any noise sensor operating, he told us a few tales including Christmas baubles dropping off the Christmas trees, we bought a lovely Anne Boleyn bauble, it really was spectacular at Christmas. When i got home i put my bauble pride of place on my tree after Christmas i went to take my decs down, i reached carefully for the bauble so as to pack it safely away first, somehow it dropped to the floor and smashed to pieces.
I was at Hampton Court Palace in 2013 and 2014 I was ina area of the palace were i was alone near a long staircase, I was swear I turn around and saw Anne Boylen in her burgundy dress with 2 serverent, THEY were a clear as daylight.I walk closer and closer to them ,they just walk away. I WILL NEVER FORGET THIS EXPERIENCE.
My husband and I visited Hampton Court for the first time a couple of weeks ago. It was magnificent beyond my wildest dreams! I had a couple of unexpected and interesting experiences while I was there. When I saw Anne's portrait near the Great Hall I was overcome with a feeling of sadness which I did not expect. The weirdest thing, though, was when we were standing in the Haunted Gallery. I distinctly smelled the scent of roses very strongly and only for a moment. I asked my husband if he smelled it and he didn't smell anything. Also, when we went into the Council Chamber, I immediately felt a sense of absolute dread, like I could feel the stress coming off of the walls and the atmosphere was heavy and oppressive. I was fascinated but I also couldn't wait to get out of there! It's an amazing place and I feel like I could have spent three days there and still not seen everything I wanted to see. We will definitely be back. Hever is also on my bucket list.
I have visited Hampton Court and the Tower and sensed a strange atmosphere, too. Great video, good presentation & no background music. Just good material and presenters style.
I came across your video by chance ,on the subject of Ann Boleyn a few years ago I had an experience ,it was so out of the blue I don't live in the UK try Australia one summer night I was on my comp looking at pictures of Ann of Cleaves was not thinking of Ann when all of sudden my curtains moved and their at the back of me stood a women dresses in a black gown with goid like decoration on the dress ,as you can image I was a little bit scared and taken back ,I found myself having a conversation with her she told me she was Ann Boleyn I asked did she want to marry Henry and she said she had no back door out Henry always got his way, I asked if she loved him and she said she did grow to love him, she wanted me to know she was innocent of the crimes she died for and this she kept repeating the feeling I got was she wanted someone to write her true story the curtains moved again and Anne vanished , she came one more time, as I was telling the story over the phone to my sister ,well how ye be what we know of her life is not like the history books I feel.in hence saying this when I was 9 went to the Tower of London and had a bad experience wont be going back lol PS forgot to say not a tall women but she in body was very delicate she was slim and she was not beautiful but she did have a pretty face she was not tall I feel she is not at peace that is why people see her ghost as I did
What I would love would be a group of historians getting together at a site associated with a Tudor era figure, such as Anne, and somehow, through their focus on her as an historical person of interest, be able to summon her for an hour or so, and be able to communicate with her, and ask her to clarify things we have no answers for, such as her birthdate.
@@OntheTudorTrail It would be great, it would be corroborating the information so the historians who were not there would believe it! That would be a tricky sell - "Oh, I asked Anne herself, and she spilled the tea on everything."
My late father used to tell us a tale about when he was guarding the Tower of London when he was in the Welsh Guards. He wanted to frighten another soldier so he found some old chains and a sheet. He covered himself with the sheet and clanked the chain whilst walking along a wall. It didn’t go to plan though because he tripped and fell onto the raven enclosure breaking part of it. Needless to say he got into trouble for that
Tonight at supper we were taking of places that my son is looking to build a house. One of the places was Pembroke Road. I told my family about Anne's rise in rank. Then you mention that exact thing. It is a very weird Halloween. I love this episode tonight!! I'm always up for anything about Anne!
I went to Salem, Massachusetts and went inside Judge Johnathon Corwins house. It’s the last standing structure related to the American witch trials. I wanted to take my time in the museum (full of items that belonged to the judge, victims and residents of Salem in the 1600s) but I was incredibly dizzy and disoriented. I couldn’t stay inside the house very long at all.
Just returned from a Halloween stayover. Picked up 3 stories:- 1 The porter was passing by the kitchens when he saw saw man in modern dress who acknowledged him with a glance. The man disappeared through a wall'. 2. A kitchen assistant ran into Reception in a total panic She reported seeing an Edwardian woman in full dress spinning round in the dining room. The Astor Suite is allegedly very haunted according to the staff who live on site. Shhhh! - they don't want potential guests to know! 3 A group of children excitedly said how authentic the hologram of the old man in the armchair in King Henry's Bedroom was. There are no holograms in the castle! Defo worth a stayover, especially in Astors - if you dare.
I lived at East Molesey just across the river from the palace for many years, and would often visit the Palace and its grounds. I remember one rainy day when there were few visitors back in the 70's l struck up a conversation with a warder in the Wolsey apartments. He told me that a man dressed as a cavalier was often seen there. Not long after there were multiple sightings the body of a man was dug up in the court yard opposite the Royal Chappel. I was always drawn to the Wolsey apartments at that time as it housed a painting of the battle of the spurs. I can honestly say l always felt like l was being watched.
This was fun! I agree that property, Rochford Hall, looks eerie and I wouldn’t want to be there alone at night. I did think the lights on the lower floor looked like they could be electric, like a wall heater?👻🎃🙀🖤
I know Rochford Hall well as I used to live near there. Its now a golf club but used to be a restaurant and my dad knew a chef that worked there. He said it was haunted. Of course the church opposite was partly funded by one of Anne's grandfathers and wouldn;'t be surprised if that is where Mary Boleyn was buried

I've also had a couple of weird experiences at work (modern hospital on the grounds of an old workhouse). I did and was overwhelmed by a really horrible, oppressive, weird feeling. I can't explain it but I didn't hang about! We revisited a year ago and - I sat in there again and felt absolutely nothing. It's said that stonetape theory could be the cause of ghost sightings, especially where there has been trauma...I hope that if the ghost or spirit of Anne Boleyn has any sentience, that she is reliving happier moments. I have been lucky enough to visit her burial spot in St Peter Ad Vincula, and the tomb of Katharine of Aragon in Peterborough (where I was moved to see her given her title of Queen), and paid quiet respects to them both. No, Anne was granted the Marquessate of Pembroke by King Henry VIII on 1st September, 1532, meaning that she was a Marquess in her own right. She would only have been addressed as Marchioness had she married a Marquess.
@@OntheTudorTrail I know a ghost would have to be extremely articulate but I've been obsessively trying to fined any trace of George's poetry after including him in one scene of a story. Strange that the other men don't seem to haunt much either. The only thing I've ever found are vague rumors at the Tower however Sir William Brereton’s spirit has been linked to Tatton Park which I used to visit a lot as a child.
I saw a video that said George can be seen on Tower Hill in the evening , especially May 17. As for the others Hampton Court has several unknown Tudor courtiers, probably including Anne's supposed lovers.
It looks like someone was standing at the bottom of the castle you were recording the castle instead of taking pictures of the lights why not record???🤔
Anne of Cleves was given Hever castle as a thank you for accepting the annulment of marriage to Henry VIII. Could been her. Has not to be the Boleyn. The thing IS, the MORE you WISH or THINK, it will become true in your mind. Often it is not. What many forget IS that Anne was a VERY DEVOUT Catholic first generation protestant reformer. I wont be negative and say no way, as I also know full well there is so much more between heaven and earth and realms. All I say is, its possible yety its also possible its someone else who resided at Hever Castle. Hever has a LONG history. Outside it looks the same yet inside are the floors not where they used to be in Tudor era.
Very interesting stories but that's all they are vivid imagination. I am sure we have all felt sensitive feelings of emotion or sympathy with the people and events in all sorts of different places but that's our tuning into those events not evidence of ghosts. While I find such stories fascinating, that's all they are fascinating stories. Never seen a ghost, never experienced anything I couldn't explain and I am sure most stories have an explanation behind them. Unfortunately you can't recreate anything accurately enough to capture those experiences. I don't believe in ghosts. I am open to the idea of imprints to history and weird stuff does occasionally happen. But with such emotionally charged stories there's always going to be some people who tune in too deeply and think they are seeing or feeling a ghost or spirit when in fact it is simply an emotional response. No scientific tests have ever confirmed these sightings. I might ask the guards at the Tower how much they had to drink? I think anyone on their own in these places at night might imagine all kinds of weird stuff. I am sure people genuinely think they saw what they saw or felt what they felt. People see UFOs all the time, they usually turn out to be satilites, the one in Natalie video is the ISS. Often they are unusual planes and even birds with the sun shining off them in the far distance. Intelligent people see them and it doesn't mean they are potty, just that they can't identify astronomical phenomenon properly. A popular UFO is actually Venus or bright headlights or even the Moon. Light sources can be a reflection. Someone may have accidentally triggered a spotlight or something wandering around looking for something or there's probably an explanation yet to be discovered or admitted. Reinactors have been mistaken for ghosts. I don't know what your light source was and obviously you saw it as it's there but I don't think it was supernatural. Natural maybe.
Anne Boleyn was a nasty piece of work. The treatment she and Henry meted out to the dying and completely innocent Katherine of Aragon was utterly despicable. Difficult to have any sympathy for either of them.
@@carmellarkin4803 there is no proof that she actually wore a red dress, except for a vague mention written six years after her death, by someone dedicated to Henry. It was clearly a smear campaign. Stop bragging about your education. A person with a real education doesn’t need to brag.

Everything on this planet has his own vibrations. Who knows, maybe they linger around for many many years afterwards? (Just me trying to think in some kind of logical way) Love your podcast Nathalie!

Prince Harry was married on Saturday May 19th at St Georges chapel. I thought at the time that this was not a good omen for them.
To @AlexandraWolf-ql6bi: And I thought it was wonderful it was that something lovely happened on that bad date.
Is that someone standing by the window outside. In your light picture?
Happy Halloween
Marchioness not Marquess.
No, Anne was granted the Marquessate of Pembroke by King Henry VIII on 1st September, 1532, meaning that she was a Marquess in her own right. She would only have been addressed as Marchioness had she married a Marquess.
@@DrOwenEmmerson That's really interesting,thank you
@@annakingsford438 You are so welcome 🙌
@@DrOwenEmmerson I work in ancient sites in the Occitanie where the language could not used in this way Very interesting
Any reports of Georges ghost?
I don't think I've ever head of any.
Outside it looks the same yet inside are the floors not where they used to be in Tudor era.
have been to both 😂😂it was all quiet 🤫
How do we kniw it isn't Buffy the maid.
Thanks for tuning in and for sharing your thoughts.
Anne Boleyn was a nasty piece of work. The treatment she and Henry meted out to the dying and completely innocent Katherine of Aragon was utterly despicable. Difficult to have any sympathy for either of them.
@@historybarf They both did. She wore yellow on the day Katherine died to celebrate. And I have read widely on the subject.
@@carmellarkin4803 there is no proof that she actually wore a red dress, except for a vague mention written six years after her death, by someone dedicated to Henry. It was clearly a smear campaign. Stop bragging about your education. A person with a real education doesn’t need to brag.
