In this super interesting video, I talk about my story of getting into one web3 company through Open Source Contributions."
Btw, if you're searching for how to make an open source contribution, watch this video where I helped your favourite Harnoor (@singhinusa) in making his first open source contribution: • Google Summer of Code:...

Bro could you make a series of some sort, where you go over random opensource projects, and show us how you read the huge codebases, how you debug, how you fix stuff and things like that, it'll be a great series as no one on YT has content like this.
that would be so great
Nobody talks about this. They only talk about open superficial figure it out yourself stuff.
Also how to find such great open source companies or their projects.
Great idea 💡
Yeah, it would be great if he'd do that!
Unlike other click baits you share real knowledge, This is really helpful man! First video of yours I watched was of using terminal to do most of the things, I have started using terminal and different editors I can see it’s helping a lot to stand out.
that's amazing ! Thank you for sharing you journey Harkirat and looking forward to upcoming videos (will watch them for sure) keep making quality videos like this !
Thank you man. This is some real & practical elder brother advice.
Hey, Its so nice to see someone paving the path of the mysterious terms that we always here. Every body have said do open source contributions but none I know have never said how to actually do it . thanks man!
Finally someone showing a practical approach towards contributing to OS (in terms of landing a job). Great video, Thanks.
can't wait to watch you making ACTUAL contributions. I will really learn a lot!!!
I think this is the video that will actually make me start contributing instead of thinking excuses for not to...Thankyou very much!! 👑
I always get more motivation for learning Open-Source, Thankyou so much😍😀
This is just blown entire YT bro.... super super dope video I have seen yet.
Yes, will definitely watch the coming videos of you contributing to open source. Eager to learn about open source.
Happy for you man. I will definitely watch your upcoming videos on open source contribution.
This was a great video. Looking forward for the upcoming Open Source Contributions you plan to upload
Waiting for the next series of Videos on Open Source Contributions. Please tell us how to ask good questions before or while contributing to any issue, what are the best practices while contributing to Open Source.
Also it will be great if you make a video where you will choose an organisation (what is the whole process of choosing an organisation) on GSOC and show us all the steps and contribute to an issue and make PR i.e. I am talking about a full fledged guide to contribute to Open Source, especially GSOC.
Eagerly waiting for the upcoming videos on open-source contributions..
You have given me the easiest path for my 1st remote job,
Thank You..!!!!
New viewer here, and I love your experience story telling. Congrats again!
🤩. this is great, really appreciate your work, and looking forward to upcoming videos on how to make an opensource contribution.
Thank you
Excited to learn about how to start contribute in open source and what are overall process and best practice.
This is extremely motivating and yes we want to know about how to understand big code bases and not get scared from different languages and libraries being used, also the correct way to make pull requests.
I realise this comment is from a few months ago but I recently built a tool where you can enter an issue/PR and get an AI-generated summary of all code changes that occurred. I personally found this a very useful way to learn a new codebase. Tool is still in beta but would love to share and get feedback
@chiragpops Share it. If you are in the cohort share it there too
7:05 Harkirat can you please do a video around this issue ?
Understanding a large codebase can be challenging. Would really appreciate if you can give a walkthrough.
thank you for the video. good work 👍
Yes, we do need that
Yes We Need Videos on that
Highly needed!!!
Honestly there is no actual guide to tackle the challenges of a large codebase. In fact, in various startups they don't even maintain a pattern. The best thing you can do is to learn how to navigate through the code, to find what you want, and working on your tasks without getting intrigued by the vastness of the code. This only comes with practice
@@apoorvkhandelwal7597 also startup's don't have a very large codebase, unlike other older open source projects
Valuable video Harkirat ! Thank you ❤
This video motivated me a lot. Thanks for sharing the insights of your career.
After about 9years in the IT industry and using a lot of open source software... I am now seriously thinking of contributing back to open source. Thank you for the video. I will follow your next videos more seriously.

love the video man being a software engineer this is really motivating
Hi Harkirat, Awesome video. Could you make videos on how you decide which projects to contribute to. Which language you contribute ? Complexity of the contributions, like do you have to build sophisticated modules to get noticed. And how to maintain an active GitHub profile. As no other developers makes videos on these area at least not hands-on. Can you show live commits live coding etc. Thank you! Again you are an inspiration to me and consider one among tech mentors in UA-cam.
That's why it's always great to listen one's experience to an idea about the subject
Thank you for this quality content ! 🙏🏻✨
Really excited for the upcoming videos

Explain tools like eslint, prettier, husky, bundler,.....and other tools used by open source.
Make tutorial on it.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video 🔥
We need open source contribution videos more kindly take it as request ❤
Also, the intro was such a flex😎
I am not related to any software related work
And in commerce doing CA
But watch your all video because video and communication skill are very good and explain in very simple
This video was very informative, but could you make another one on open source contribution? Specifically, on how a beginner should start by reading large codebases, understanding issues, and solving them. This would be really helpful for people who want to get into open source but don't know where or how to start.
If you have the time, could you also consider starting a bootcamp that covers everything from the beginning to the end, including web 3 and contributions? I understand that it might not get as many views as content on data structures and algorithms, but it would definitely be helpful for those who want to get into open source😅
@@araara967 can please tell me the video title of that video ?!
@@rajkrishanmahajan2373 its not all in one video. start with the video titled 'how to understand large codebases'. rest you'll find as u go through his channel
@@araara967 thanks got it
@@araara967I have been following his content for quite sometime, content that he created is excellent but still it’s not very clear how to contribute.
Love people like you bhaiya ❤
Thanks bhai for making such good videos
I have just passed class 12th
Thank you so much for this
What we are watching is his 15 minutes of advice about open source .. What we haven't watched is his 5 years of consistent hard work /smart work that's the big deal.
Thank you for always providing the best of content because youtube space has become contaminated with all the bhaiya's and didi's giving nonsense advice to get views.
At the end one thing matters are you passionate about tech if yes then only it will make a full circle in your life.
Came here to say open source changed my life i started with keerat's youtube channel 3 years ago, i am in 3rd year and rn i am the best version of me i could have imagined.
Eagerly waiting for the upcoming videos . Kuch CNCF aur Go Lang related content bhi post karo na bhaiyya 😁
As i'm watching this, I just straight went to the backpack repo and saw an issue being raised so I jumped into it, hope I get it assigned and probably fix it.
Absolutely thought-provoking! How can one maintain consistency and maximise productivity while working as a remote software developer? Also, can you provide us with links to open source project regarding frontend libraries. Thanks!
This was a very interesting video, one question is how do you identify such companies. Do you follow some podcast/newsletter or does this information come from your Twitter network?
Thanks for sharing!
Harkirat - thanks for this video
Open Source changed my life also and keeps doing so! I can't wait to share some amazing business news in about 1 week because of Open Source! Great video, let's get everyone to accelerate their career with open source!
You are amazing too Eddie !!!!
