    Just ordered this as part of the set of 3. Sick of having to sharpen my cheap chef knife every time I use it 🙄

    I spent 500 bucks on my set 22 years ago and then it turns out I only need 3 of them. Cannot get them sharp.

      Yeah usually recommend getting just a few of the most important ones and even differing brands to find exactly what you like.
      I’ve got plenty of sharpening videos on the channel and there are reputable services out there. A well maintained knife is key!

    From a points collecting place, I "bought" a Wusthof Amici. (A¡r M¡les Canada) I have *never* seen such a beautiful knife, nor used such a sharp knife. *EVER*! It cuts beautifully, no matter what you're cutting. I've cut vegetables & meat with it. The meat it went through like a hot knife through butter. It is a beautiful knife that performs so wonderfully. Well worth whatever cost is attached.

      That’s awesome, glad it’s getting used! Always fear that beautiful knives like that will be locked away but they’re meant to be used!

      I’ve seen that video. Mostly followed expectations except the plastic mat style that performed very poorly.

    Man, it seems like this knife carries a lot of baggage for the price tag. And, in my respectful opinion, I think this should probably be the last knife that any beginner acquires. In my opinion, the cost for this knife is way too high for beginner use.
    The Mercer Renaissance, which you featured briefly, is a superior knife that any beginner, and even working chef, could use. What most people don't know is that the Mercer Renaissance is made of the same exact steel and handle material as the Wüsthof. A triple riveted, POM plastic handle. And it features a fully forged blade that is made of the same X50 Cr Mo V15 high-carbon German steel, which is the steel found in high-quality German chef knives like Wüsthof, Zwilling and it's JA Henckles brand. And, the Mercer Renaissance only costs around $50 bucks, so you're saving big time right out of the gate. Right now, the Mercer Renaissance is pretty much my daily driver at both work and at home, and I own Several high-end forged Zwilling and Wüsthof knives.
    One of the biggest issues I have, and not only with this particular Wüsthof, but any fully bolstered knife is the full bolster. Sure, a full bolster looks nice, and I know that it serves to strengthen and support, but it's just not practical when it comes to sharpening. And, I am not sure that what you gain in a full bolster is worth what you actually lose in sharpening ease. The Mercer Renaissance is a half bolster, so it can be sharpen right to the end with no worry or issues. Sharpening is just nice and easy.
    In the end, no matter what you choose, I would say that owning a quality knife should always be the way to go. Cheap knives will end up costing more and doing very little to improve your kitchen life. And, the costs of cheap knives always piles up, so buying a quality knife, one time, can end up saving loads of money in the end. Great video! Thumbs up!

      Agreed man! Owning a quality knife is must but for sure doesn’t need to cost a fortune! How it’s maintained and cared for will make a Mercer run circles around anything that isn’t.
      I really like the Renaissance lineup but do find some of the profiles to look a bit goofy!

      @@EngineersPerspective701 Haha! Yes, indeed! I must agree with that. The Renaissance is a good knife, but some of their other designs sure are sketchy! Thanks for the reply!

    Beginners knife 🤨 .. it is used in professional kitchens around the world as a standard workhorse.

    Any knife with a bolster like that is crap for sharpening.

    Unbelievable quality, but a nightmare if you ever need customer service. It's the WORST! Their "lifetime" warranty is a joke! Do yourself a favor and purchase any one of the other premium brands on the market that back up their products. Most of them are cheaper as well.

    • @EngineersPerspective701
      @EngineersPerspective701  5 місяців тому

      Had not heard that! I do have a local licensed dealer that offers to handle all that so I would go that route but haven’t needed to yet.
      Messermeister your next choice then?

    • @penopio
      @penopio 5 місяців тому

      @@EngineersPerspective701 No. I chose Shun. That was my second choice when I first bought the Wusthof. I won't say I made the wrong choice because I have loved this knife, but I am very disappointed in their response to my problems with the knife. This was a very expensive knife, and worth every penny, if it held up, which it didn't. If you have a local licensed dealer, I would love to know how to reach them.

    I wish people would stop using the metric system. I know the globalists want us to use one system, but most of your sales are in America and we use the inch pattern. If you want to sell your products in the USA (which is most of your sales), get with the inch program.

    • @EngineersPerspective701
      @EngineersPerspective701  10 місяців тому +1

      Yeah I can take it either way. There’s more to metric than just length measuring but those units probably only impact 10% of the population.
      I speak metric on knives because so many come from Japan and Germany and that’s how I contextualize the measurements

      Only 3 countries in the world use the imperial system … USA, Mayanmar and Liberia. So that is two 3rd world countries and Liberia 🤣 Seriously if though .. all high end engineering is done in the metric system irrespective of the nation, so it is about time the US got with the program.
