Makes my hair stand on end every time I listen to this extraordinary Yaman Kalyan. Feels as though Panditji has played every note here as a prayerful offering to Baba.
A truely great experience. The great sitarist is not amongst us, but thanks to such private recordings generously shared by civilised people his memory is kept alive for posterity. Gratefully appreciated.
I, too, have no words to express gratitude to you for opening up a veritable treasure trove for us. This Yaman Kalyan is just divine - the kind of music that effortlessly elevates the soul into hitherto unknown realms of beauty, grace and wonder. I have absolutely no hesitation is asserting that this is indeed one of the most sublime renditions of Yaman Kalyan I have ever heard and I am saying this in full knowledge of beautiful renditions of the raga by Ustad Ali Akbar Khan Saab, Ustad Vilayat Khan Saab and Pandit Nikhil Banerjee.
Thanks to You Tube and the many music lovers who have been kind enough to upload recordings of our great masters like Ravi Shankar, Ali Akbar, Amir Khan, Bhimsen Joshi, and others, that their music is available to us lovers of music. I had the good fortune to listen to all the masters since 1955. I still enjoy tuning in to You Tube and revive my happy memories. Thanks Subrata and others
While I can never thank you enough, greedy that I have become, the expectation was that some day you would upload Panditji's solo night long concert at Marble Palace (with Pandit Kishan Maharaj). That was an experience which I cherish to re-live. However, for what you have already shared I remain ever grateful.
Nirmalya Mukhopadhyay Hello Sir, I am not sure if this recording was already uploaded on UA-cam but could you tell us more about that concert. When did that happen? What did Pandit ji play and why was it so special as eveident from you comments?
This is truely divine perhaps reflects the discipline imposed by Baba and Annapurnaji’s influence which later disappeared and the great Sitarist music took a new direction without the two towering figures around.
I'm quite sure the tabla player is Ustad Alla Rakha, although I thought their association began later than the 50's. Most of Ravi Shankar's earliest recordings featured Chatur Lal on tabla. This is definitely not him!
