In the early 60s, we courted up there. Water Rock Knob is where she announced that I belonged to her. Very tenacious girl. We lased for 60 years, then the cancer took her. Glorious person. Wonderful mother, grandmother. She was a native, born in the Balsams. Her family came to the area in 1827. I laid her ashes on Water Rock Knob, a high point of the Balsams. A tribute to her and her ancestors, many of whom lie in those mountains and some on the TN side in Cades Cove.

These are my ancestors. I am so excited. There are all sorts of stories in our family about the land in the mountains our family owned. The story of the bear hounds we brought over.

Both from summer and fall. I'm trying to focus on the subranges along the parkway, and avoid the videos in this series being seasonal. Seasonal videos never work well for the channel. We'll see if it works. Regardless, good eye!

I guess I made these videos in the wrong order as far as colors are concerned. The first three videos in the series were colorful, as they were shot at high elevations or later in the season. This video and the next one was made earlier in the fall, and I used personal stock as well. @@juantomas3630

    Hey Bill and Juan!
What's the snake situation in these parts Bill?

It's the mountains, and it's the south. Snakes, snakes, and more snakes. But the truth is that I saw more rattlers and copperheads in Virginia Mountains than I've ever seen in the Southern Appalachian Mountains.

@@BillMarion Highway 12 Utah and the Pacific Coastal Highway is the most famous drives in the United States. At one time it was Route 66

The United States has many famous drives, including legendary routes, scenic drives, and other famous roads. Some of these famous scenic roads have nicknames. The Blue Ridge Parkway has been known as "America's Favorite Drive" since 1946 when it became the most visited unit of the National Park service. It's held that distinction almost every year since. In 2023 The Blue Ridge Parkway had 16.7 million visitors. There are only two lodges the entire length of the Parkway. For the rest of the 469 miles of the Parkway, you have to exit for fuel, food, and lodging. It's a different experience than the PCH. There are big cities, towns, beautiful homes, and shopping all along the PCH. So, the PCH has a different nickname than the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Parkway is a scenic drive, and it's a unit of the National Park service. The PCH is an actual highway. Both are quite amazing. I hope that cleared up any confusion.
