You should've just written 'Suhr' on the headstock with a Sharpie and listed on Reverb for a couple grand...you silly, Canadian son of a monkey's uncle! Season's Greetings from a lesbian in Chicago !
Hi Landon good Video. I wrote you a comment about the Pickups you didn't use. Would you be interested in selling the pair? Im a Beginner player. I enjoy working on my guitar aswell. I bought a red Sparkle Squier bullet telecaster. Those pickups that you were going to use would probably be a upgrade from the ones they use in the bullet telecaster? I love your Videos. Good Info mixed with some humor. Lol let me know if you would be interested in selling the pair thank you.
I’m a sucker for any “natural”-type finish on a guitar body. Thank you for helping this one
Did the same mod with a Glarry thinline body. Put a humbuckers in the neck and a rail in the bridge, three new brass saddles on a fender bridge. I had a satin maple on maple neck that turned it into a killer Thinline Telecaster. Light, powerful and great tone. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Merry Christmas!
If you've done very many 3 or 4 hour gigs, a light guitar and a wide strap are life savers.
Good video. I'm surprised you didn't replace the tuners. That would have been higher on the list over changing the pick ups!
I've done a few overhauls too. Look like most of the stuff you didn't fix, needs fixing. Now I always try to find guitars that don't need everything. You have to like the neck or it's not worth doing> Fun video as always.
Yup got a a cheap Fazley for £69 GBP a year or so back. I was gonna put some TexMex pickups in it but, surprisingly, after a setup and fretlevel, crown and polish, the original pickups had a certain quality about them I liked. It's currently in the cupboard in its gigbag and not getting any love, but I loved the Burl Maple veneer finish so will get it out one day and see if I still like it and, if not, pass it on to some local school or charity. A lot of fun to be had with cheap telecasters as not too much they can mess up :)
Grover locking tuners, Fender 6 saddle top loading tele bridge, and a fret polishing and you got a nice little weekend warrior
Hi Landon. You may or may not care but you inspired me to order an Obsidian Les Paul harness I’m changing out some pickups on an old Gibson and I’m not super confident so I got the Obsidian. Wish me luck.
I did a similar thing. I picked up an Encore Blaster E2 (?) T style as a practice guitar as I wanted to work on my MiM Fender neck but didn't want it to be the first neck I did a fret level and polish on. I ended up liking the Encore neck so much after I pimped it that I sold the Fender. I bought an ObsidianWire 4-way, a set of Mr. Glyn's 'Cruel Mistress' hand-wound pickups, a Fender 6 saddle bridge and a set of second-hand Fender professional staggered tuners. I also re-shaped the headstock to be vaguely Tele-ish. Now it's a far better guitar than the MiM Tele ever was and it's also uniquely mine.
Happy holidays to you and yours Landon.
I never done anything remotely close to this. Still loved to see you work on this guitar, amazingly done sir!
!Wow. Thank you Landon. I learn very much with your videos! Congratulations. Keep up your successes! 😊
Hey thanks!
I did the same thing with the Glarry equivalent. I kept the pots and wiring and added OriPure Amazon Tele A5 pickups. I also replaced the green Chiclet with a WIMA cap I pulled from my Gibson LP Tribute and a Kluson round string guide. Oh yeah... I put on a bone nut as well. It's just fine now for less than a hundo.
Just a tip, and you may know this already, but 6 saddle and vintage style 3 post saddles dont always work out to have same distance from the nut.... some will require a new bridge mounting location.
i got one to play around with and turned it into a G tuning 5 string Keef guitar... and yes the neck is sweet... i changed everything except the pickups and tuners for now.... i love it and it looks killer...
I was yelling, "Dude, that's not a top-loading bridge!", but you didn't seem to hear me.
I have one that is destined to be fireplace stuffing ! Esquire that some one put a "Pearly Gates " in the bridge [ wiring it all wrong of course ] ... Good Luck , Landon !
Wilkinson compensated brass bridge saddles. About $15 on Amazon.
ordered a set last night for a HBenton coming today....$13+tax on Reverb. They do improve tone... Got a set of $50 Bootstrap pups to check out too... This HB will be going up against some stiff competition...USA, Fender and G&L, FGN Illad with SD's, 2 CV50s with Fralin/Lollars. I want to know what all the HB hub-bub is all about. Love me some teles...
I would just buy a full wilkinson bridge at that point, it's only a bit more expensive and you could re-use it on future guitars if you decided to get rid of this one.
Yep. I like those Wilkinson bridges.
6 saddles is bettee
Great job! In my opinion, just the wood grain merited it being improved. I didn't mind the black pickguard, but whatever. Thanks for doing the project. I like it better than the red Squire.
Get access to a drill press and drill out the six holes for string through-body, with a set of string ferrules.
I didn't see you put a ground wire to the bridge. you might want to do that to reduce the chance of electrocution.
Learned to solder recently....mod'd two Squier CV50's this year (and another cheapo Austin tele had lying around for years) ...fun...got a HB TE-52 coming in a few hours...plan to brass saddle it...and drop some $50 Bootstrap pups to see if they're as good as folk say. I"m a Fralin/Lollar fan....but for $50...what could go wrong, eh? Nice vid, Landon. Love the look with white pickguard.
I did the upgrades to one of these. Mine is sea foam green. Tuners, pickups (Guitarheads Super Twangs), brass saddles, bone nut, better pots etc. Fret dress. I'd put it up againsy and legacy Fender Tele anytime.
Digging the background jams during the montage.
I would put compensated saddles on the current bridge plate and slap new tuners on it. If it doesn't tune well after that, fire wood.
I follow you since a long time and think its your best video up to date!
I agree with somebody or other who praised the backing track, some cool playing there.
While I'm here I'll also commend the video which was
fascinating, good man.
This looks like a natural for full shielding; I'm doing that for a Gear4Music Tele with the same price point. Also a shim is good, but first it is important to measure the depth of the cutout. A shim might not be necessary if the neck cutout is sanded very carefully.
P.V. 64 pickups are great in a tele bridge. try that with a 51 nocaster neck pickup sometime. best sound i ever got out of a tele. that is how my CS is set up right now.
Fun and interesting to watch and one that first timer or a parent buying a kid their first guitar should see. You are essentially knowingly buying a body and neck or acquiring one that might not be the right choice. Going a step up to another brand like Eart gets better components and likely better setup. I got the same one you did here. It too had bad intonation and string height and it was painful to hear the string move over the nut when tuning. Looked great and ended up in the hands of someone with a big parts collection.
def. went with the white pick guard Landon - good call
This video has a point, may be the only video on UA-cam that does. Good job.
What a fantastic video have a wonderful happy holiday season also a fantastic happy new year Landon ❤😊💜💛💙🧡💚🎸🇨🇦🌲
I picked a no name tele up off of eBay for $50 just for a goof. I unironically love the necks on these They are huge and remind me of my Kay.
This dude is really good at saying words sometimes
I don't know why, but the part where you went through the whole pile of pickguards like hockey cards just vibed with me. Really cool stuff!
I still have my hockey cards from the early 90s
I have found that the graphtec tusk infused with non stick material properly cut nut works fantastic for about $6;😊
I like giving my bolt-on's what I call a 'negative shim'.
It's essentially removing the same amount as would be added with a shim from the heel of the neck.
I also remove a sliver from the front area (below the truss-rod adjuster), which keeps the frets where they should be rather than pushing the neck away slghtly.
This allows me a back relief like a Gibson without having a detrimentally high action.
Why not try it, it's only a $90 guitar!
interesting! a lot of work when a cut up business card is the solution.
Need that George Harrison comparison video.
14:52 Afi Black Sails in the Sunset tone❤
Agree with some I do, your probably best off starting with Squire or Epiphone
I'm impressed by your ever improving skills, Landon. When you busted out that set of nut-slot files, I thought, "Damn! He's getting serious here!"
I really like the color and woodgrain, but why didn't you shield the cavities with copper tape?
I like your videos. They're a refreshing change of pace.
Merry Christmas to you and your family
Merry Christmas!
I might get the black one and turn it into a Brad Paisley looking tele
Not worth putting an Obsidian wiring kit and decent pickups in a cheap and nasty guitar like this. This treatment should be reserved for a reasonable starting guitar such as the Squier Classic Vibe. Plus you won't have issues of non-fitting pickguards, pickup mounting holes too small, incorrectly positioned bridge and so on.
Actually a fender bridge will not fit a squier guitar so you would have to mod a squier body to accept a fender bridge.
Depends on the Squier. Not the cheap rubbish models but will work for the Classic Vibe model if you select the correct bridge.
Landon I enjoyed the video very much! Im just s Beginner at playing but also enjoy working on my equipment. Im handyman kind of guy and like to do most things myself. I see you didn't use the first set of pickups. Would you be interested in selling the pair? I had pretty recently bought a cheap Telecaster. Sparkle red Squier bullet Telecaster. Im sure those pickups would be a upgrade of the ones that come on the Bullet tele? Let me know if you may sell the pair. Thanks. Love your channel by the way lots of Info with some humor lol.
do the 5 way switch series/parallel, with half out of phase bill lawrence mod. treble bleed and piezo pickup. relic the body and block inlay stickers.
hail no
Haha, you did a montage. Like my friend in the UK does. Keep up the good work spidy. Believe it or not, the Squier SE is a monster for modding. Years made were the early 2000s. Fat baseball neck and full thickness body. Mine is better than a fender as i modded it. Duel stacked 250k/ 500k volumes pot, ans all vintage style wiring with staggered poles on the neck and middle with a single coil style humbucker in the bridge and a vintage crl 5 way switch that you can feel the avge on. The kid before me hacked the body so i fixed all the cuts that were horrible. My free trash guitar is my favorite especially since i put the XL nut in. Secondary is my 2020 CV with most of the same upgrades.
Hey sir, you might wanna try and review an electric guitar brand name "JCraft series" it's a cheap guitar too but it's really worth it. It's from Philippines. 🤘🏻🇵🇭
Great vid…..what’s that first audio track? Bloody awesome!
I approve of the word ensuingly
Crazy canuk , you stole my stupid sense of humor, I just built a Leo jaymes kit strat , love that old ceramic magnet sound. Keep moving forward to find the elusive unicorn, ( doesn't exist ) but life keeps moving.
Good job Landon Merry Christmas an Happy New Year to you and your family!!
Thanks! You too!
Love the background music track! 🎸
Sometime it's not worth it to mod a cheap guitar but when you're paying under $100 and the neck is good it can be feasible otherwise better off buying an Eart or jet or Squier for $250-$500.
I love the idea of fixing up cheap guitars to make them fun to play so you can provide them for schools and youth clubs.
You might find a good bridge on Guitarfetish with brass
You could have drilled holes installed the Ferrell's and made it a string thru work 😊
*Ferrules
any idea if the neck would fit in a squier neck pocket? i love everything about my highly upgraded affinity tele except the body. it's too heavy and the guldens-mustard paint color is horrible. i'm not handy enough to attempt my own refin, and buying a fully finished tele body from anywhere else would be alot more money than buying this whole guitar on ebay for $119 just to scavenge the body to complete my monster. and if i belt-sand belly and forearm contours into it, i don't have to worry about resale value
Didn't see what or how you checked height before nut filing
I did it off camera. See how in this video BUILDING A CUSTOM FENDER JAZZMASTER - CUNIFE AND COBALT PICKUPS

The weight in scale?
5.8 lbs
Where did you get the various pickguard 's ??
im pretty sure mostly on Amazon
@@landonbailey thanks. Great content BTW
Weak body woods ,,,,, do give way
I had a Tex Mex Strat , Poplar body .
Had to keep adding more shim as the years went , yes , the pocket was bending forward .
I did run SRV strings on it ,,,, but still
i bought one a week ago and made it into a esquire
I have one but mine Is not like that buy I’m learning to play so I use it to learn but I can hear how it’s different then my others
Good work man!
Great video mate!
Never seen the Obsidian gear before...works!!
I get ppl who like intonation, but a Tele gets its twang and nasty from those barrels...
Luv the channel fella.. and Merry Christmas everyone!!
Great channel
Ive built up several cheap guitars that sound and play very good but at the end of the day still feel cheap 😮
The body is GORGEOUS.
I'd put a quality neck on it and love it.
Wow, I'm gonna be fixin' to do some fixing. I may try the Glarry Tele that looks like this one, only it's priced 40% less. Hmmm.
Well I now see the Glarry has a $20 delivery fee, so it's $20 less than the Lux, but then the Lux might have a better neck.
I just picked up a Donner tele for £65 new on Ebay and it's very nice.
Be aware the neck is very chunky on the Glarry Tele. I'm thinking of replacing mine, but it's really getting to the point where... what's actually left? The body... that still doesn't have through holes? Honestly, If I could do it over, I think I'd either start with a Squier or try putting a guitar together through guitarfetish and just buy the parts I wanted up front. If you want to mess with fretwork, etc., a Glarry is a cheap way to go about it. If you want to actually enjoy the guitar when you're done working on it... three Glarrys later, I'm no longer convinced that's the best way to go.
@@agnawkneemoose6373 Another win for the Donner then as the neck is pretty slim on my example.
@@agnawkneemoose6373 Appreciate the advice 👍
I think there great mod guitars.
Did you find a bulk pack of pick guards or buy them separately?
collection built up over time
What pickguard did you use ?
I think I pulled it from a Squier Classic Vibe Tele
You don’t wanna break off a match stick?
I don't?
But other than not shimming the neck I think you did an excellent job, don’t get me wrong
Hey Lando, Where did you get your nut file set? I need one and hesitant. The nut on my T7 Sire is high...
pretty sure Amazon years ago:
kit.co/LandonBailey/guitar-maintenance-building-tools
Thanks much appreciated!@@landonbailey
U made that a decent guitar
fairly cool
With a proper set up would make a decent practice guitar.
Would you intonate and tune it fine that it could sound twice better, sorry to say...
?
At many positions it sounds out of tune :-/@@landonbailey
I'm not sure it was worth all the cost, time, and effort?
You should have just nade it a through body
You can't drill some holes?
I can't?
@@landonbailey Yes, ask your dad to borrow a drill.
Really good video. However, I just did a video explaining why these guitars are not for beginners, but for more seasoned players with the knowledge of how to do the work to make them right. Not necessarily bad guitars, but beginners beware. Well done. Subscribed
When you’re not looking that decibel meter displays just “stfu”. Weird eh?
😂
It sounds out of tune in the end. I bet the frets are not in the right place.
Check out this video that shows how to convert a guitar use a through the body string and bridge setup :
ua-cam.com/video/lO3Ruv1OPic/v-deo.html
Sounds like the intonation is not good
a set of tonerider alnico blues or the vintage will transform that guitar, don't like the pups you put in it.. ick
why dont YOU go have fun and stop telling me what to do?!
Tex mex
🤘🎄🎸
Everyone's gone cheap ass on guitars lately. Must be cost of living crisis caused by those traitorous rich politicians, bankers and Pharma - all in bed together. You have nice higher end stuff too. What bout a comparison vid between the cheap and not cheap? Nice riffs in this vid. Marshall shredmaster sounded good.
Interesting vid but the background music sucked, I mean REALLY sucked
I really like the background music
@@landonbailey you probably like Billy Joel too
I love Billy Joel

I wouldn‘t buy anything at amazon
I don't think they sell those
