What’s on your TBR?
I’m reading Terry Pratchett’s DiscWorld! I’m starting with Guards! Guards! And then I plan to read Piranesi :) and The Adventures of Amina Al‑Sirafi!!
I just started parable of the sower! ✌🏻
Currently reading The Scar by China Mieville and Velocity Weapon by Megan E O'Keefe. I'm hoping I'll love Velocity Weapon and then binge the series 😁
My TBR for next month:
The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
War of the Worlds by HG Wells
Burial Rites by Hannah Kent
The Sword of Kaigen by ML Wang
The School for What-Nots by Margaret Peterson Haddix
The Hollow Boy by Jonathan Stroud
I don't make TBRs since I'm a mood reader. Whenever I try to set a TBR, I read everything that isn't on that list. But lately, I've been reading Legends of the First Empire by Michael J. Sullivan. It's really good so far.
Not only is Chris Hadfield an astronaut, he’s a Canadian one! The mystery isn’t the strongest, but he’s a great writer.
Despite the awkward timing with the kittens, I'm glad you finally got your surgery appointment 🙌 Wishing you a swift recovery after and that it finally gets rid of the pain for you.
I'm fully on board with the Ice Planet Barbarians, just to put in my two cents xD Can't wait for that vlog!
Thank you! I'm sure it will be a mess which will work just fine as a vlog XD
@@BookswithEmilyFox I'm not sure you will like them because there are consent issues.
The audiobook for “The Adventures of Amina Al-Siracusa” is amazing! I don’t usually like audiobooks, but the narrator for Amina is such fun.
Agreed!! I feel that audio is definitely the way to go for this book.
Chris Hadfield is an amazing Canadian and human being. The guy is so talented. I enjoyed watching his videos on the ISS. He played the guitar and sang David Bowie's Space Oddity while in space on the ISS. You can check it out on UA-cam🙂 I read and enjoyed his book An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth but have yet to read The Apollo Murders. I have a copy (signed!) and have been meaning to get to it. I'll try to read it in April! He has a follow-up coming out as well. It might be later this year but I'm not sure.
Seeing Emily holding a copy of Ice Planet Barbarians is one of the strangest and funniest things I’ve ever seen. I really enjoyed that book in a “lmao this is trash” type of way
I found Chris Hadfield's non-fiction book very interesting. Easy read, uplifting and positive. I recall really enjoying it. I'm curious about his novel. Best of luck with recovery!
I am already missing the kittens updates 🐈⬛💕🙈 like come on, they are part of the family right now🥰 p.s. Je te souhaite bonne chance et bon courage pour ton opération, tout se passera bien 😊🍀
Hope your surgery and healing go well, Emily! Take care ❤
Good luck with your surgery and wishing you a swift and full recovery!!
I'd recommend Equal Rites by Terry Pratchett if you haven't read his witch series yet. Very wholesome and, I'd argue, ahead of it's time.
Ooo I’m just starting his DiscWorld series!!
@@Yourlovelyc It's really fun! Equal Rites has been my favourite so far, I love that you can read them out of order depended on which timeline you want to follow.
@@rootingbranches yes I’m starting with Guards! Guards! :)
SO EXCITED!!! 💖💜💜🤎🤎💕💙💕💞🧡💛💖💜🖤🖤🖤📙📚📚🌹🌸🤎💙💕💚💚🌷❤️🩹🌼💛💖💖🖤🖤❤️📙📙📙💐📚🌹🌸🤎🤎💙😘💚💕💓💜🖤📙📙💐📚📚
Really love your videos recently, you have become my ultimate comfort book tuber 🥰
Also hoping your surgery goes well and you recover quickly!
5:05 omg can't wait !!! such a fun challenge to read this type of book
Best of luck with your surgery! ❤ I also try not to carry books from tbr to tbr, it helps me not get into as many reading slumps cos I’m not forcing myself to pick up and squeeze books in less. My library holds are all coming in at the same time and I’m trying not to stress out. 🤣
Happy reading! ❤🎉
Hope the surgery goes well
I am so, so excited to read The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi! I haven't read Ice Planet but I am SOOOOOO incredibly excited to see you read it!
"All the Living and All the Dead" is fantastic! I listened to it on audio.
Good luck with your reading!
I’ve had “Her Majesty’s Royal Coven” on my shelves for the longest time. I am tempted to put it on my April’s TBR as well as “The Adventures of Amina Al Sirafi”. Time to tackle my physical books!
Great TBR! ❤❤
The Lost Metal is also on my TBR for the month!
I love that you're reading Ice Planet Barbarians. Can't wait to hear what you think!
I loved Her Majesty's Royal Coven!
So happy for you to finally get your surgery! I know it was a long time coming
You have the same birthday as my son! He will be a year old this upcoming month! 🎉❤
Best of luck with the surgery Emily- I will send birthday wishes on the 12th. Your April TBR sounds amazing!. I also need to get around to reading Amina soon.
I found a copy of Moi qui n'ai pas connu les homes in my secondhand bookstore last month. I'm tempted to pick it up so I can compare my thoughts with yours next month!
Im glad you got your surgery appointment! No one bummed that theres no kittens in this video?
Hey Emily, I just wanted say I just had surgery (like five days ago) to remove my gallbladder and the first few days are tough, but it gets better! The gas pains sucked, I would get gas meds, walk around, and get a heated blanket to help those pains a lot, especially the blanket! It was like a gas pain remover, lol! Otherwise my issues were some pain at where the surgery happened (my gallbladder, upper abdomen ), just stay on your pain meds around the clock the first few days and take it super easy. Make sure to have someone helping you out (I’m not bending much right now) so you don’t have to push yourself to be safe. As I approach a week out I’m feeling a little better each day and enjoying not being in pain every time I eat! 🎉
I am reading Doctor Zhivago and I recently spoke to a friend of a friend who is Russian. I explained how I used to struggle with the Russian names when I read Tolstoy and he said there are some really bad Russian translations. He recommended Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky and so far is really like what I’ve been reading (though it could just be that I like Boris Pasternak too 🤷♀️).
Happy Birthday month 🍰 Her Majesty’s Royal Covern is modern but I would not describe it as cosy - it has some lightless but also a lot of dark themes so wanted you to not expect all loveliness and tea and cake going in 😊
Sending good vibes your way Emily for a safe surgery and quick recovery.
I'm currently reading The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels. It's quirky. I don't know how I feel about it yet. I'm like 30% into it.
Happy you can finally get surgery. Hope everything will go well and that you'll have a good reading month.❤
I'd love to hear your thoughts on All the Living and the Dead! It's one of my favorites. Best of luck on your surgery! I unfortunately have the same medical issue and can relate.
I just bought Amina al-Sirafi I had it on my wishlist before you mentioned it so I'm glad that one won. I have "The year of the witching" by Alexis Henderson and "Poison: Charm: Beauty" by Sarah Pinborough on my Tbr for next month
I am glad you are going out of the box Emily and exploring all categories of books this year xoxo 😘 💓📙💖📙💓💚💙💖💛💛🌈🌈❤️❤️🌼🥀🌸🌸💐💝💓📙💙💚💚💚💖💛🌈🌈🌈💜🌷🌸📖💝💐💝💓📙💙💚💚💕💕🌼❤️❤️❤️❤️🧡🧡❤️🩹
I just finished If Cats Disappeared from the World (it was the third in a cat trilogy) and it was my favorite. It's funny and sad. When you realize what each of the items represent, it sets it. Very good.
BTW, Happy upcoming Birthday!
A good modern day witches book is Paybacks a witch by Lana Harper :) small town, some cosy vibes, very family oriented
Good luck with the surgery - I hope it brings you the relief it is supposed to 🥰 Dont stress about reading, just make sure you are okay!
You just take care of yourself, Emily-don’t worry about vlogging! 💐
We 100% need that vlog of Ice Planet Barbarians lol! In my TBR it’s Foxglove King, The Adventures of Amina, The Grace of Kings!
Apollo of murders and her Majesty’s of royal coven such a beautiful cover and love fantasy ❤️🩹💖📚📚💙💚🖤💓🤎🤎🖤💚💙📙❤️🩹❤️🩹💕💞💞🌼🌼🌷🌷🌈🌈🌈🌼🌼💝💛💜💖🌹📚💐📚🌹🧡🧡🤎💓💓🖤💚💙💙💚💓🤎🤎🤎💓🖤💚💙💙💕💕💞💞💞💞💖💖🌹🧡🧡🧡🤎🤎💓💚💙💙💙💙🖤💓🤎
Oh, I have The adventures of amina Al-Sirafi (thanks fairyloot)... so I'll try to read it during april. And I met Chris Hadfield at the Montreal Book Fair and he's soooo nice. I haven't read his prose though. Only his children book.
I hope the kitties are doing well ! ❤😊
Your so right with Jane Austen! English is my second language too and tried Northanger Abbey. I like it but I read it so slow and have to really concentrate that it takes ages 😅 but I do really enjoy janes humor 😂
I read IPB in 2020 or 2021 with no feelings on it and I absolutely adored it. I also listened to the audiobook and the narrator was the perfect Georgie! I hope you like it!
My birthday is the 12th too! Yay go April babies!!!
you mentioned likeimh witchy books and i looove this trilogy call the bone witch!! you should try it out
You might enjoy Danielle Garrett's Nine Lives Magic series if you're looking for cozy witchiness. As long as you don't mind talking cats. :) (The book I'm reading right now is actually cozy and witchy. It's A Potion to Die For by Heather Blake, and I'm really enjoying it.)
Happy early birthday and good luck with surgery. Funny thing my birthday is also next month and I am also having surgery next month. Can’t wait to read while recovering!
I absolutely loved Galatea! Be sure to read the author's notes at the end.
I want to finish up Winter Counts by David Heska Wanbli Weiden. It's a thriller that starts on a native reservation in my home state in the US. Very good so far.
I went through three surgeries on my elbow in the last 14 months so I consider myself a pro at this point. You mentioned blurry vision, I personally didn't have it, I just had low appetite and monkey brain after surgery so I made sure to have options: a couple of audiobooks, my Kindle, some movies and tv shows downloaded, podcasts. I switched between all of them on a regular basis throughout those first days.
Wishing you a speedy recovery, hope it all goes super well for you!
I'm definitely planning on keeping the reading to a minimum at first. I was so out of it the first week after jaw surgery but I don't think it will be as bad this time!
yes! i just got 'i who have never known men!' so excited to start it
I really enjoyed that read
Happy birthday month!!!
The hole is one I recommended so hope u like it. I plan to read some dark romances (I’m not the biggest romance reader) but there has been some that I keep seeing pop up that I legit wanna see what the hype is. Also u reading that one romance book seems like it’s gonna be hilarious
happy early birthday, mine is on the 20th!!
Hopefully everything goes well with your surgery! Make sure to take some rest if it's needed and don't feel pressured to post videos if you're feeling unwell. Praying for your fast recovery! Btw, love all your videos and please get enough rest :)
ahh! dreading that day myself, 18th.. have a consult with a surgeon. be thinking of you of course
I know you like witchy books so if you havent checked out Born Wicked by Jessica Spotswood I super recommend it! It's centered around three sisters set in an alternate New England in 1896. Witch hunt, trying to fight the patriarchy and difficult family relationships. It is a trilogy but all the books are under 400 pages.
April is my birthday month too🤩
Hearing such a good French from you was so smooth to my French ears. Like you have such a good prononciation 😁👏👏
Je suis québécoise donc le français est ma langue maternelle lol
I need to keep notes while I watch because I have Thoughts when I listen. Thoughts like: did I really read that Brandon Sanderson is a Mormon? That’s problematic for me. I started the Apollo Murders and got bogged down in the bureaucracy in the first 50 pages. I’ll try to continue, but no one is dead yet! Don’t you think of cats disappeared has the same cover as “and every day the way home gets longer”? I hope your surgery goes well, and happy birthday! What a busy month for you!
9:04 I loved Peg and Rose Solve a Murder. I think it might appear to older readers.
Tyranny of faith and the stardust thief are on my Tbr this month
I loved All the Living and the Dead.
Happy early birthday! I think a surgery to take care of your long-term pain is an excellent birthday gift for yourself ♥️
Sending positive vibes for your mouth of reading in April I believe in you and have faith in you xoxo 😘 💙💙💙💕📚📙💚💚💚📙📙📙💙💙🤎💚🤎💙🌸💖💛💛❤️🩹🧡🌹🌹💐💐💐💜💖❤️🩹❤️❤️🧡🌹🌹💐💐💐💚💚📙📚📙💚🖤💚📙📚💙💙💙💓💓💓💓🤎🤎🖤🖤
I hope the surgery goes well! I’m sure your baby and grandbabies will miss you!
If you’re looking for more modern witch books maybe look into Cackle by Rachael Harrison.
Will we still get to see your Read it or Unhaul it challenges? I love those!
Omg I squealed when you said you were going to read Ice Planet Barbarians. 🎉 I just made a smutty book video if you want to continue down that road 👀
Good luck with surgery Emily! and Happy Birthday in advance. Great book options though. I had planned on reading "I Who Have Never Known Men" in March but time got away from me, so I'm hoping I get to it (in French) in April.
"If Cats Disappeared from the World" is good. I just don't recommend the audiobook.
A Half-Built Garden" was not a hit for me. I think you'll either like it or won't. I thought the concept was very intriguing, but the found the world-building and characters lackluster. It also discusses a few themes where it got a tad too heavy handed and preachy at times.
Ice planet barbarians... lmao 😂😂 you get second-hand embarrassment! And you're gonna record your reaction! 🤣🤣 I can't wait, my friend!
I literally JUST got surgery for endometriosis a week ago. I’m not sure if that’s the same type of procedure you’re getting, but either way, best of luck! I so hope you can find some relief from your pain!
Have Mistborn 1st Sanderson book 1 chapter in great so far 😊
For wholesome witch books Witches of Moonshyne Manor by Bianca Marais is very good! All older witches, it's very cute! Threadneedle by Cari Thomas is another one, more YA but honestly a bit darker with some coming-of-age themes.
Edit: posted this before 9:05, my bad :(
Haha great minds!
Lol girl, you’re Canadian and don’t know Chris Hadfield?!?! He’s a national icon - he even has the Order of Canada! I keep meaning to read Apollo Murders too though haha
I really enjoyed Commander Hadfield's first novel (I hear he's writing another one!), and I did enjoy his non-fictions, too, although it helped being a space nerd. And he is Canadian, mind. 😉
He's really fun, a great educator. My kids saw a bunch of videos he was making about daily life in the international space station. I haven't read any of his books but I am truly interested.
Priority in my tbr: Dead Girls by Selva Almada. It's described as journalistic fiction (that's so cool?) and it documents three femicides. Setting: 80s Argentina. I don't need to know more about it. I'm already super curious 😫
The lack of kitten content in this video is unforgiveable. lol
Next video!
Birthday Month 😁😁
❤️📚
I am looking forward to Happy Place by Emily Henry. Good luck with your surgery and kittens.
I thought it was coming out in May! :O
@@BookswithEmilyFox End April
You are going to have the surgery on my birthday, the 18th. I hope everything goes well 🙏🏻
I have just bought I who have never known men ....and I blame you 😂
Break a leg in your surgery (I don't say the "L" word) and I can't wait to watch the Ice Planet Barbarian vlog!
I'm currently already reading the book I think will take up most of my April: 1Q84! I had never read anything by Murakami before and I can safely say I'll never read anything else by him after this!
I'm side eyeing the friend who gifted me this copy, saying she had loved it!
Oh I can't stand him either! I included Norwegian Wood by him in my "worst books of 2022" and I won't read more either lol
🐱🐱🐱no kittens 😢
What you are going to live react to Ice Planet Barbarians. This is going to be interesting
WITCH BOOK: have you read THE LOST COAST by Amy rose capetta?
I loved all the living and the dead until I got to the chapter about a bereavement midwife. Thankfully, that was basically at the end of the book.
I adore Chris Hadfield! He’s such a great role model but The Apollo murders was not a great book for me. His non-fiction on the other hand! ❤❤❤
I'll keep my expectations low!
I cried cause of If cats disappear( it was good ❤
"If cats disappeared from the world" is one of my favorite books. Has surprisingly good humor, or maybe I didn't expect to laugh at that book😄💙💙
I video recommending Becky Chamber-esque sci-fi would be amazing, just a thought I had when you mentioned "A Half Build Garden" 😊 I'm sure i'm not alone in reading sci-fi exclusively from her and no one else 😅 Would be nice to branch out
A lot of queer history books focus disproportionally on (cis) men, unfortunately 🙃 this one at least doesn't call itself a queer history book (on the cover, at least) and then talk only about men anyway. It does sound interesting, though, I like the concept, it's definitely on my tbr
I'm trying to find more but so far nothing compares!
To be fair, it's hard to be well known as an awful person in history when you have 0 power so... men it is lol
She has such a specific vibe, it's hard to replicate
😂 there are simply no bad queer women. Not a one
NONE. "I support women's rights but most importantly I support women's wrongs" XD
Ice planet Barbarians is absolutely terrible. I read it also for a laugh but I was too flabbergasted to have a reaction.
Octavia E Butler love her it is weird series I enjoy it and she is amazing and writes unique and out of the box books 📙📙🌈💝💝💕🧡💙💚❤️❤️❤️💚🧡🧡💙💚❤️📙❤️🩹🌼💐📚🥀🥀📚🌹📖📖🌷🌷🌷📖🌸💖💖💝🌈💓💓🌈💝💕🧡💙💙💚❤️❤️❤️💚💚❤️💙💜💜💜💜
Where are the kittens ?? :(
When are you going to do more read it or unhaul it videos?
Next video!
A book I read in March and I’m recommending to everyone
Fellowship Point by Alice Elliott Dark
🍀👋☘️☕️📕📖📚
I feel you may like the adventures of Amina al sirafi, it's kinda get the band back together, a bit like kings of the wyld, but without the dick jokes 😅
