I'm a former chef, and a pound of pasta to feed 6 people is pretty standard. We were actually taught in culinary school that a serving of pasta should be 2 ounces for a side dish, and 3-4 ounces as a main course. This is the amount we used when I worked in catering as well. Since a pound of pasta is 16 ounces, serving six people would only alott 2.6 ounces of pasta each. Which is appropriate since there's meat added to this recipe. Obviously people can eat however much is right for them since everyone's calorie and nutrition needs are different based on their activity levels, age and whatnot. I'm just explaining from a cook's perspective what the standard portion is. When recipes are written we usually use standard serving sizes to help decide how many portions a specific recipe makes.
Thank you for making this video...I really like how you share your “thoughts” after each recipe. I always like to try recipes but like a real person review. Thanks for this!!
I make the egg cups with Simply Potatoes Shredded Southwest Blend from the refrigerator section at the grocery. Mix them with melted butter before putting in the muffin tins. After putting in the eggs I only put back in the oven until the eggs are set. We like them runny.
Egg yolks: When I was learning how to make macarons I had so many yolks leftover. So I ended up making a lemon curd as I also had a lot of lemons from a friends tree. If you don't like sweets lemon curd is really quite nice as it's tart as well as sweet and can be used to make other desserts like lemon meringue pie.
ME TOO........Just discovered Jen and she is awesome. I like that she gives modification tips for kids since I have a 2 yr old grandson who LOVES to help 'Gaga' in the kitchen. My girls aren't much on cooking so I'm trying to win little Owen over to the pleasures of making your own..... over DoorDash deliveries. (UGH!)
After watching a few of Ree’s cooking shows I think the reason for her large recipe yields is all the guys that work with her husband on their ranch, plus their 4 kids. They look famished after all that work! You can always make half of them freezer meals Jen. Love your channel! 😍
Love this meal prep! I used to tell my daughter that I added scallions instead of green onions. When she heard onion it turned her off. When it had scallions she was fine with it. Not sure what the difference is but a nice trick. Also if you make the noodle bake maybe blend the white part of the “scallions” in with the cottage cheese you mentioned maybe blending. Thanks for all the videos.
I loved that someone said, “How about the top 10 of Jens recipes!’ I could go for that! I was just gonna mention that I love the eggs n the nest recipe. I’ve made them several times and with good results. However, I used a shortcut…thawed frozen hash browns. I’m not sure if that’s the secret to my success or not but we just loves those cute lil things around here. One more difference is my muffin cups are a darker color so maybe they are non stick? Not sure but I did spray them good as well. Maybe you should give them another try with he frozen potatoes 😋
I am amazed that Pioneer Woman's Chicken Spaghetti Casserole wasn't in the top ten of her recipes. It is SO GOOD!!! Very delicious & filling & a total comfort food. I saw it on the very first show of hers that I watched. I was in the hospital & happened across her show & this was the recipe she was making on that episode. I called my husband & told him to print the recipe from the website & I wanted that for dinner when I got home. We have made it many times since then & have made it for friends & family if someone was sick or was going through a rough spot of one thing or another. Everyone raves about it!!! I highly recommend it!!!
This may sound silly, but whenever I start watching other UA-camr meal preppers, I always compare them to you 😬 .. your videos are so informative, and relatable... you explain everything in great detail, even if you've done it already a hundred times on other videos, and I looove that (repetition definitely helps me remember hahaha🙈) I appreciate all of your content!!!!!!! Thank you so much!
I saw these top 10 PW recipes in my feed, too, and they all look so good! I'm glad you made them and told us what you all thought of them. The noodle bake is VERY MUCH like a popular Good Housekeeping or Southern Living magazine casserole recipe from the late 70's that my aunt used to make for us when we were kids. The only 2 differences were that old one did not have green onions and it had cream cheese instead of the cottage cheese. I love your idea for the peanut butter pie! Can't wait to see you try that!
I've done the muffin cup breakfast cups... I spray my muffin cups, then I use a layer of ham, then crack the egg, then top with the Hashbrowns... comes out super easy every time and are so good... the cook time definitely depends on how you want the egg cooked... hope this helps! So good and reheat so well for fast breakfasts!
I was just telling my daughter yesterday about once you by a kitchen aid mixer you are set my son for Christmas every year buys me a new attachment for it I just love it so so much I’m a new subscriber I really enjoyed your video thanks for sharing Blessings
Ina is my favorite too. When I downsized by 200 cookbook collection (to 25) I kept all of hers. Unfortunately, her recipes are very costly since she uses the highest quality meats & ingredients. Jen is so talented tho, I'll bet she can modify the recipes a bit to make them more budget (and kiddie) friendly.
For everyone who gets in a rut with cooking dinner every night, my husband & I came up with this solution & it has really worked for us. We cook two days in a row & the third day we have the leftovers from the two previous dinner meals & then we repeat. We also try new recipes frequently. If your skeptical about trying new recipes, look for recipes that are similar to ones you've had before.
Thanks for doing this. I always hate wasting ingredients when I’m not sure if they will turn out ok. Printing out a few of these recipes. Thanks again!!!
I am binge watching your videos tonight. That peanut butter pie looks amazing! I love that you used the swerve. Great idea! Thanks for the inspiration!
Great video, Jen! I like PW recipes, but I love your demo style and especially hearing your real-world review of each recipe. I love seeing recipes that can be divided to share or freeze, like the sour cream noodle bake. We're a small family of 3, so this is a good way for me to divide a big recipe.
Egg yolks - you can avoid them and buy liquid whites in a carton. Or they can be added to dog food, to scrambled eggs, you can make meatballs and use as a binder, you could use them as an wash with water or milk. :) or make custard or ice cream
Wow!! Fantastic video!! Home run Jen! Such an original idea. You're one hard working woman. If there was a Jen Chapin energy bar...pretty sure I'd eat it.
Egg whites are super easy to freeze. Just put one in each section of an ice cube tray, cover with cling wrap and freeze, then put into a zip lock bag and thaw in the fridge or at room temp when you need them. Egg yolks can be frozen also, but they need to be beaten and have a bit of salt added to them before putting them in the ice cube tray to freeze. If you don't add the salt, they have a tendency to separate if you use them in baking. You can also beat the thawed egg yolks with any sugar in the recipe, making sure they are super smooth before you add any other liquid from the recipe into them. I've never had any problem freezing either one.
Great video, loved watching the sped up chopping that was fun. I did lick the beaters. One of my favorite Pioneer Woman recipes is her cheesy olive bread... I used only black olives.
Piping bag or Ziploc bag to frost the cupcakes! Love whipped frosting. Look on Pinterest on how to make a box cake mix taste like a bakery cake...super easy. Enjoyed watching all the PW recipes you prepared.
I loved that you did this video. I now mainly only watch PW but used to be an avid food network viewer and learned a lot of my mad cooking skills from FN.
The meat pies are a family favorite here. I double the recipe and put the leftovers into a clear snap container in the fridge. These "leftovers" typically last about 12 hours before they've been eaten up. The only difference I saw was that I get pepper jack cheese slices and lay one on top of the meat before I fold over and seal the pie. Each pie has a yummy amount of cheese that way. Not an entire slice, just enough to fit onto the half before folding. Probably my all time fave PW recipe. Thanks for doing this. Will be trying the pb pie and the raspberry pies for sure.
I love this video...you are fabulous! I so appreciate this because so often I’ve made some of the Pioneer recipes and they just didn’t turn out...your honesty with these are great. I will definitely be following you and share this with my daughter and her friends. I can’t wait to see more videos like this.
Just stumbled onto this video...showed up on my recommendations and I really like your style. You have an excellent presence as you talk us through you process. Also like how you suggested modifications for the kiddies. I'm so impressed!

Excellent video sweetie!! Omg! I’m literally obsessed!! I’ve made so many of those recipes and really liked them! Do Bobby Flays top 10 or Ina Garden’s top 10.. 😋😋❤️👏
Jen wow just found you on UA-cam last night! Where have you been all my life?!? Totally appreciate you making and taste testing these recipes. Such a great idea for busy moms who want to make the best recipes for their family! Many thanks to your family for being the taste testers for us as I know kids can be picky 😊. Keep these coming!
You can freeze egg whites. I put then in ice cube tray then pop them out and put in baggie and thaw and use for meringue cookies or egg white omelettes. Egg yolks I freeze in baggie in ones or twos and put them in meatloaf or add them to make extra rich scrambled eggs. My family likes homemade cooked pudding so I usually just make a pot of that with the extra yolks.
I haven't tried any of Ree's recipes but I love the way her books are formatted. Step by step pictures are great for beginning cooks so I bought one of her books for my daughter.
Ree has a carbonara pasta you could use the yolks in. It’s fast and delicious. The yolk cooks in the very hot right off the boil pasta. So have it ready to toss in the pasta.
I love to make noodles with the yolks leftover from any dish,. This video was great, and I liked the reviews after eating them too. Homemade noodles are so easy and so delicious!!!. If you hold the yolks until another day, just cover them with cold water. Pour it off before using the eggs. I just found your channel today. thank you for being there.
Jen Chapin your welcome sweets!! You should do a top ten of Rachel Ray! This was a great video!!. I make egg bites every week I put all the ingrdients in a bowl and mix it I put the frozen hash browns at bottom of my muffin pan and then pour my mixed ingredients over the top and bake it all at once it comes out so much better.. I made some today! Turned out great!
What a fun video! I have made the eggs in hash brown nests a few times but I used frozen hash brown potatoes. I let then sit on the counter for about 25 minutes so they would be more pliable to form in the muffin pan. I also add garlic and onion powder to the potatoes because we like them that way. My potatoes never stick but I spray them well with the cooking spray and the eggs turn out just right. The only thing I saw in your video was that you pressed them into the muffin tin. Maybe that’s why they stuck? I’m probably not that careful when I make my nests lol, but they haven’t stuck yet. And scrambling the eggs I probably wouldn’t try either. Great video tho…thanks!
Hi Jen, I enjoy your well-crafted vids. I love that you do the voice overs. I can only imagine how much editing and work are involved, but just know it is appreciated. I’m forever looking for a good veggie lasagna. You may have already done that prep, but I just found your channel. Love your humour 😘🇨🇦
I have made the chocolate peanut butter pie before and I knew it was super rich as made. I would love to try it with the changes you made. Thanks for an amazing video!
Thanks awesome video. Lemon curd is a good use for leftover egg yolks. As for the chicken pasta, from the Italian point of view, it looked like too much sauce for the amount of pasta. But Americans like it that way - Italians prefer the pasta itself to star.
Was the noodle bake with sour cream, sour creamy tasting? I’m not a fan of either sour cream or cottage cheese, but I might try it with ricotta cheese instead 🤔
The Asian recipe looked delicious, can’t wait to try it, and I appreciate the tip about using parsley instead cilantro if you are like me and not a super fan of it.
You can freeze eggs. If you use an ice cube tray you can pop out and put in a Ziploc and know how many egg yolks or whites you have by counting the cubes. You can also make mayonnaise from egg yolks or custard :)
Make fried rice for a side and use the egg yolks. Or cook them up and add to ur dogs food. I use carrot peels and ends of carrots, green beans, broccoli ends to add to dogs food (steam them in microwave first)!!
I used to love Rachel Rays 30 minute meals. That would be awesome to see you do. So, my fav Pioneer Woman recipes are broccoli and cheese soup, tortilla soup, crock pot white chicken chili. Loved this video!
Love these, my husband will eat anything PW. I like that you give your ideas too because I'm not always sure if we will like it the way it is. And I always cut her recipies in half and still end up with 2 meals for our family of 4.
How about what you you make for dinner when it is hot and humid? A weeks worth of summer dinners that are not bbq or grilled hotdogs or brats. Thank you Jen
*Ok, so now that I'm officially drooling on my keyboard... I just went and bought a microplane grater on amazon because I'm finding the more I'm in the kitchen, the more I need one! Like we were talking about, wish I was closer to share some pie and SNES with ya haha!*
As always - great video. Regarding the leftover part of the egg - I usually scramble it and pan fry with no or minimal amount of oil and add to my dogs food - it is a treat and defiantly something that he really likes :)
Hi Jen. I've only started watching your videos the last month or so, but am really enjoying them. I love that you are so genuine and natural and not fake. I live in Australia and was curious if your boxes that you get delivered, clothes, cosmetics etc are only available in the U.S? Also, passionfruit curd is lovely made with the egg yolks or even a vanilla custard. They can also be frozen. 😉💗
I really liked this video and the honest reviews the best. I do forward through all the prep. HAHA. The worst part of your videos is I watch them before bed and then I get so damn hungry! ;) :)

The Asian recipe looked delicious, can’t wait to try it, and I appreciate the tip about using parsley instead cilantro if you are like me and not a super fan of it.
Thank you for your tips on the peanut butter pie and her going to put them in the muffin tin’s for a family reunion in August
Dang!!! You are bringing the content! That was a great video and clearly took a lot of work!! Thanks so much! Love PW recipes!! I have her cookbooks!
Thank you so much!
I have been making the Sour Cream Noodle Bake for years. So easy and delicious!!!
What an awesome concept! I really enjoyed watching and would love more like it. Maybe Ina next?🤓 Thanks for this❤
What is the brand of your air fryer? And what size is it?
Love these, my husband will eat anything PW. I like that you give your ideas too because I'm not always sure if we will like it the way it is. And I always cut her recipies in half and still end up with 2 meals for our family of 4.
I appreciate the effort you put into this.i love the pioneer woman.
How about what you you make for dinner when it is hot and humid? A weeks worth of summer dinners that are not bbq or grilled hotdogs or brats.
Thank you Jen
For the freezer pies. If you wanted to use sugar free chocolate cookies it works well too.
I have made that pb pie several times especially when going to a pot luck or having company, it is a favorite! love the asian salad.
*Ok, so now that I'm officially drooling on my keyboard... I just went and bought a microplane grater on amazon because I'm finding the more I'm in the kitchen, the more I need one! Like we were talking about, wish I was closer to share some pie and SNES with ya haha!*
I wonder if you added a little oil to the hash browns plus spraying the cups would help with the sticking?
Thank you for sharing the top 10 recipes - very informational.
I think that Grove is only available in US, not sure about stitch fix!
@@Jen-Chapin ok, thanks so much for replying x
Ooh will definitely be making the herb pizza for my family. We had a similar pizza at restaurant and loved it then.
I really liked this video and the honest reviews the best. I do forward through all the prep. HAHA. The worst part of your videos is I watch them before bed and then I get so damn hungry! ;) :)
