Great to see that Tim is doing well - this was a brilliant idea and I hope this video is the first of many. I would be completely invested on a series of Tim teaching us how to play literally every Keane song (assuming he still remembers the likes of Untitled 2 for example!)
The thing that really drew me into Keane music was the powerful piano sound in the music. I'm just discovering this and I'm thrilled to try to learn a few!
I still remember when I was 16 and I asked to my music Teacher to taught me a song with a music sheet that I found on the Internet that it didn't sound the same. 17 years later, Tim sent me the gift.🥰
This was awesome Tim. I grew up tearing your songs apart to learn them and play them from memory - ended up majoring in music in college in part because of you guys. It’s very cathartic to have the man himself teach me the song that started it for me!
Wha..why would anyone dislike this?? This is the real deal! That's THE artist teaching us how to play their song, how many artists actually do that? Big respect for you Tim! You are amazing! ❤
Tim, I think you can't imagine how much happiness it brings to see you explaining how to play a song I'm listening, singing and playing for years now, a song that only reflects a tiny part of all what Keane means for me and so much at the same time, your song. Just thank you, that's so pure and sweet. ♥
This is one of the most beautiful and emotive chord progressions in all of music. We’re privileged to have the composer talk us through it. Thanks Tim.
I actually think you are one of the most technical piano players . The subtle not and chord changes in every song are so subtle but recognisable . Great video
I am beyond thrilled to learn about this song and band and to have an intimate, dedicated video that explains the thought process behind and way to play such a lovely song. I think I was perhaps sold a million times over when Tim said that Brian Wilson was inspiration, and the mention of Pet Sounds just made me feel so elated. I can say that I’ve decided to pursue music and make that what I want to do in life after having listened to that album. It’s really fantastic, and to hear such a direct honoring of that album and the man behind it is just phenomenal. At the very beginning I was thinking just ever so slightly the intro chord, the way that it’s played with the high A voicing, it made me think a bit of the intro to God Only Knows. The bit where Tim mentions voicing a chord with a bass note other than the root was good to hear too, and I would agree that there is definitely lots of uplifting movement in this song! Thank you for posting this video. Beyond the connections I identified with, it’s just extremely cool to see firsthand how the masters of their crafts lay out what they did and where they had their minds going when creating art.
That's increíble. So few musicians do This stuff, and is very important for people like me, who are learning music... You re so nice with us. Thank You very much

2:19 Tim: Pretty simple -Me: :C ... Watch again 0.25x speed by the way ... I love how he seems nervous and so shy talking to the camera, and that smile, and his eyes, and his shaved beard... and playing the piano...
Very, very generous and public-spirited of you do this, Tim. This may not be complex like Franz Liszt or even some of the great jazz gospel pianists' harmonies but that doesn't prevent it from being utterly brilliant. Great lyrics and melodies need great accompaniments to become truly great tracks. YOU have absolutely made one here. Watching you perform on several of the Keane I have had the good fortune to discover in the last few weeks, I had no idea you'd turn out to be such a wonderfully warm person and teacher. What a great combination you and Tom are, as well as the other guys who provide such support. Seems to me you've cracked the chemistry, that magical blend and balance those Liverpool lads had. Respect and nurture it, it's very precious.
You are an inspiration for me... Thank you so much for show us how it is this magical song. I almost cried in the end of the video because of the emotion that i felt thanx to you.
Strange times indeed ... but hope you guys are doing good! And also everyone reading this! Thanks for this lesson and all your beautiful music! Stay safe everyone.
Long time ago I try to learn playing piano, I'm trying again, thanks for sharing Tim, I'm going to do my best. I love this song and is also my mother's favorite song.♥️♥️♥️
Todavía me veo a mis 18 años viendo tutoriales en YT para tocar este tema en el teclado, prácticamente lo saqué de oído y lo que me gustaba era eso, que era simple! Soy tu fan, Tim! Gracias!
Exceptionally talented Tim, Bravo!! Hearing you play the piano, and listening to Tom in Blackpool around 2002 (Supporting Travis) I was hooked. Still the very best support act I’ve ever seen in my life, and naturally now you are my favourite band. Stay safe, and Thankyou so much for being so amazing xx
1'st of all , i can't even put into words how i feel about this song ! the first time i heard it i was out with my family for a drive and it came on the radio , i Jumped to turn it up after just maybe 5 notes if that , Everything in me Knew i Loved it Right away !
Huge Keane fan. Total piano beginner--I don't know which keys are which notes. Every few years I try to learn a song on the piano and give up out of frustration. I watched this video (over and over) and after practicing for a couple hours a day for two weeks I can play the whole song with just a few mistakes here and there. The section breakdown and chord discussion gave me the hooks needed to learn it and stick with it. I'm having so much fun. Thank you, Tim! I'm working on Strange Room now. Songs I'd love to see: Sea Fog, Bend & Break, Pretend That You're Alone.
Qué mejor que aprenderla desde su autor. Thank you Tim, we'd be very grateful if you do more tutorials, specially for Everybody's Changing. Lots of love from Chile 🇨🇱 it was a pleasure to see you guys live in the capital Santiago.
Omg! So glad to have come across your page and this tutorial while I'm doing my search. It is indeed so very special to have the artist teach us this beautiful piece :)
I listened to this song everyday on my daily walks during the quarantine. It seemed to describe everything about what was happening all in one beautiful song. Those chords are so pretty. Thank you
A great gift because of your own advices. This title means a lot for me, musics are the book of our lives, and this title represents a special part of my life. I "lost" persons for different reasons. Black burning heart has the same effect too. These two titles remind me of especially my Aunt Monique.
Thank you Tim! So kind of you to share how to play your beautiful song with us. "Oh simple thing!" indeed. See you soon in New York City (and please play Your Eyes Open for Sara when you come! 😉)
I can not believe, I am learning this song from you. I tried to learned when UA-cam beggan and barely I could find a tutorial. I am a big fan from México. Thank you very much, it means so much to me.
Tim, I hope you’re doing well. I play your music daily to my 4 year old daughter, Lily. She says she wants to grow up and be a “Keane song singer” one day. Thank you for your beautiful music.
The subtleties are well, subtle, yet so perfect! Doubling up octaves, dancing on and off of sixth's, dropping the third, small variations from verse to verse ... sweet! "This Is The Last Time" would be great to see ... thank you!
Muy dear Tim, it's so nice to see you again. Love all the songs you've created. We know you've had some rough times, but nice to see you well. We'll be waiting for more piano videos and the stories you'd like to share with us your fans. Good bless you!!!
I am a mature (old) lead vocalist with a gigging function band and I suggested to my band we cover this song because I thought it’s a really nice one to do in a slow section. I’ve watched this vid over and over just to get into the mechanics of it and help me sing it in the right way,so a massive thank you to yourself for taking the time to share this with us, its been so interesting and helpful.
im not very good at the piano or keyboard but watching Tim do a tutorial kinda helped learn the song better and try to understand the notes better but would a great video i would love for Tim to do more song tutorials
You're such a genius composer, Tim. To achieve simplicity is the most difficult thing in music, you know. But your simplicity must not be confused with poverty of ideas. Your songs are smooth, gentle and full of warmth. Thank you soo much for sharing your techniques with us. I'm truly delighted.
This is fascinating, it makes my dream of snooping over Tim's shoulder come true 😁. Thank you for doing it! I can't help it, I need to request Perfect Symmetry.
This is just amazing, I was watching random videos on UA-cam and then this awesome video appeared in suggestions. This is the first song I chose to learn in piano, and watching Tim actually making a tutorial made me waaaay excited. The super-talented pianist of my favorite band making a tutorial of how to play this song is like a good dream. I opened the video and ran to my piano without thinking for a second. Thanks Tim!, thanks Keane! The best thing of the quarantine without doubt. Keane is the best band, and you keep surprising me on every step. Love you guys ♥️

I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river, and it made me complete
Oh, simple thing, where have you gone?
I'm getting old, and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired, and I need somewhere to begin
I came across a fallen tree
I felt the branches of it looking at me
Is this the place we used to love?
Is this the place that I've been dreaming of?
Oh, simple thing, where have you gone?
I'm getting old, and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in

And if you have a minute, why don't we go

So why don't we go
Somewhere only we know?

Tim: Pretty simple -Me: :C ... Watch again 0.25x speed
by the way ...
So cool 😄 Thanks for this!
great thing about quarantine is this video
The best teacher we could have ❤️
Love this. Tim is differently level. Absolute Genius!!
Leaving this here so when someone comments I will come back and watch this again! 😀
Gracias!
Thank you Tim
This is so lovely. I already know how to play this song but watching this still taught me so many things. Thank you Tim!
I can't believe this is the actual artist teachung us this perfect song. Thank you for doing this!
Thank U Tim! please teach us "This is the last time" 🙏
Thanks Tim. Much appreciated. Loved your work since day one.
You are a genius for writing this song!
Amazing band with amazing musicians but most importantly most amazing people. Love from the US
Exceptionally talented Tim, Bravo!!
Excellent tutorial and a nice gesture on your part. Thank you.
I have been playing piano 2 years and first time for me and I am 54. I will keep working on this. thanks Keane!
Thank you very much for this video. My band is beginning to do Somewhere Only We Know and this tutorial helps me a lot! Thanks again!
Qué mejor que aprenderla desde su autor. Thank you Tim, we'd be very grateful if you do more tutorials, specially for Everybody's Changing.
Lots of love from Chile 🇨🇱 it was a pleasure to see you guys live in the capital Santiago.
Thanks Tim!
Surely my son Franco will play it soon on his piano!
Beautifull!!!
Aaah this man is SO BEAUTIFUL🥺🥺❤️
One of my favorite songs, they are the reason i'm learning to play the piano, thanks for the tutorial. i love it.
Tim is really a Master of the piano and that's why Chris Martin wanted him to join Coldplay at the beggining
im not very good at the piano or keyboard but watching Tim do a tutorial kinda helped learn the song better and try to understand the notes better but would a great video i would love for Tim to do more song tutorials
You're such a genius composer, Tim. To achieve simplicity is the most difficult thing in music, you know. But your simplicity must not be confused with poverty of ideas. Your songs are smooth, gentle and full of warmth. Thank you soo much for sharing your techniques with us. I'm truly delighted.
one of my favorite riffs taught by the man himself, love those voicings, really appreciate the lesson, thanks!
thanks Tim, will surely try this one out. all the best from the Philippines
Thanks at all Tim!
This is fascinating, it makes my dream of snooping over Tim's shoulder come true 😁. Thank you for doing it! I can't help it, I need to request Perfect Symmetry.
One of the best songs ever
This is just amazing, I was watching random videos on UA-cam and then this awesome video appeared in suggestions. This is the first song I chose to learn in piano, and watching Tim actually making a tutorial made me waaaay excited. The super-talented pianist of my favorite band making a tutorial of how to play this song is like a good dream. I opened the video and ran to my piano without thinking for a second. Thanks Tim!, thanks Keane! The best thing of the quarantine without doubt. Keane is the best band, and you keep surprising me on every step. Love you guys ♥️
I Love to Play it. i learned the First 2 Parts 2 Years ago. But When Tim explain it, it is so cool that i now Continue this Song so that i can Play it completely. Ist would be so fantastic of You Tim could Teach us More Songs. Everybody’s changing. Bedshaped bend and break. ❤️❤️. Thank you 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻. Tim 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
