    Another thing is to NOT over tightened the front and rear axle nuts. Many failed seals/oil leaks caused by that mistake.
    Greeting from Vietnam.

    • @MyINNOVAMotorcycling
      @MyINNOVAMotorcycling  6 років тому +5

      OVER tightening the axle nut will break the axle bolt!!! And if the fracture occurs during riding, the broken axle will destroy the seals , and the entire motorcycle can be destroyed in a motorcycle accident.
      This is not the over tightening that destroys the seals (because the seals are protect by COLLAR), the tightening is metal to metal, not metal to rubber. The broken screw causes all the damage, which is really dangerous !!!
      The destruction of the seals is the smallest problem, the big problem is the possibility to body injury include DEATH

      Looking back at the video, I think you're right, I did not notice.
      ua-cam.com/video/Q81TcIfJQ_0/v-deo.html
      It seems that the leak is from upper seal that is an O-ring seal. The O-ring held seven years and 35,000km, so I do not think the failure is due to over tightening, although I admit it's possible. very weird. thank you!!!

      I provided a lot of information in this video, and edited it as one relatively short video. You can welcome to focus on what is important for you. Overall the close-up shots are very clear even when the screen is split. I gave numbers to the split screens(1 to 4) in the order of work. The video is built as a fast clip, in the UA-cam toolbar there is an option to reduce speed to 0.25.

    Hello sir, my lower damper bolt just spinning, I cannot get the bolt out. What should I do?

    • @MyINNOVAMotorcycling
      @MyINNOVAMotorcycling  2 роки тому +1

      4:06
      You need to put the spring and the spacer back in place, close the fork from the top, then push the piston inward. The force applied on the damper in such a position should stop the rotation of the damper and allow you to open the screw.
      Maybe you will need the help of another person to hold the piston pressed.

    This job isn’t for the faint hearted! 😂 Seriously guys, even if you have the knowhow, it’s is seriously tricky requiring professional tools. The time it took me outweighed the reward of doing it myself. Never again. Will be going to garage next time! So please THINK before even attempting this job.

    • @MyINNOVAMotorcycling
      @MyINNOVAMotorcycling  8 місяців тому

      Sir thank you for sharing.
      Yes, this is a job that requires a relatively high skills.
      I failed the first time. The idea in DIY is not to save money, it's the enjoyment of the hobby. You pay money for hobbies, in this case the money for learning from your mistakes, or the money for special tools and so on.
      Do-it-yourself mechanics is a nice hobby, not the cheapest hobby, there are cheaper hobbies than that.
      Those who do not have time, or those who do not have the patience for this hobby, the cheapest for them is to go to a qualified mechanic that they trust on.
      In the case of the Innova front forks, sometimes it is cheaper to buy new ones than to repair the used ones, and then the whole job of replacing them is much less challenging, and a lot easier.

    • @MyINNOVAMotorcycling
      @MyINNOVAMotorcycling  6 років тому

      I'm not trying to say anything, I'm just sharing. My films are not a course in mechanics. Besides, the new pair costs 56$, my patch cost 90$. I'm talking about the cost of the parts and materials, in the garage you will also pay for the wages of the mechanic's work.
      The total expenses, and as an amateur mechanic, the repair cost me about 90$, while a new pair of forks costs about 56$. You can also see this as a kind of self-humor. In retrospect, it seems that only the replacement of the upper seal was sufficient. That O-Ring cost only 2.9$

    • @MyINNOVAMotorcycling
      @MyINNOVAMotorcycling  6 років тому

      Absolutely true, but in that case(Honda INNOVA), I could not find a way to make the repair without that special tool which cost me 28$
      The special tool was added to the general account. But again, it was impossible without him, so as an amateur mechanic who did not have that special tool, I added his price to the general cost.

    • @MyINNOVAMotorcycling
      @MyINNOVAMotorcycling  5 років тому

      @Gary Dodgson Excellent thought, of course you can produce such a tool yourself, or use a Socket in a suitable diameter. Either way, the set that I bought, and made from aluminum, is cheaper than the price of professional tools. There is a unique difficulty here for this particular model, the seal is adapted to the pipe with extreme pressure. That's why you need a lot of strength And power to bring it in place. Using strong force on the delicated seal, without a special tool, will destroy the delicate springs that sit inside him.

      Yes, the shock absorber is the same for both models, the injected one and the one with the carburetor. A less viscous oil is possible, I'm not an expert on that subject, but as far as I understand, the amount is the same amount of oil. You can also change the pair of rear shock absorbers to softer ones.

    • @MyINNOVAMotorcycling
      @MyINNOVAMotorcycling  Місяць тому

      @@pp-si2dm
      Hi sir. This is the least common case. So check the main seal on top again.
      In principle, the work requires a lot of knowledge, experience, ability, and special tools, so if you are not really into do-it-yourself, go to a licensed mechanic for repair.
      The rule is that both shock absorbers are repaired/renewed together. But due to budget considerations, etc., then it is possible to repair only the leaking shock absorber, but this is not recommended.
      Assuming the leak is from the 6 mm screw located below, I think there is a way to perform a local repair, that's how I'm guessing. It's without general disassembly of parts. Replace the screw and the copper ring, and put new fork oil from the cap located above... I think it's possible, but not recommended.
      By the way, you can also ask a mechanic for a cheap repair, usually without warranty, not every mechanic will agree, because it is not recommended.
      Proper shock absorbers are a matter of safety, make the repair properly, that's the best way.
      I share, only you know what is right and good for you.

      @pp-si2dm 17 днів тому

      Thanks Tamir. Really appreciate your advice. I took it to a mechanic and they advice the bolt was loose. They checked it and now it’s leak free. I didn’t look simple as I watched the mechanic. Even with advanced tools it was still a lot of work!

      It is mainly the replacement of the oil, and the replacement of the seals. Note, for me all the components were found to be OK, but I replaced because I had the parts to replace. In my particular case, the malfunction that caused the oil to leak was a defective O-Ring in the top Left Fork.

    Hi matey, a number of people want to make DIY high pressure compressors (4000psi/200 bar) for refilling paintball guns- People are discussing the idea of using motorbike forks to do it - they look meaty enough. Do you know what pressures they are designed to handle? And do you have any suggestions or interest in looking into it... it would be a very popular video I reckon. I might try myself, but need to know the pressure tolerances of forks, plus I don't have a lathe and am worried about getting stuck 99% of the way through the process. With a proper air filter/dryer these could be used to fill diving bottle, too (reserve air source for filling paintball guns). Any help or ideas gratefully received!

      If the shock absorber is soft because the oil has escaped, then you need to replace the seals and put in a new fork oil.
      The shock absorber can also be stiffened by putting in thicker fork oil (depending on what you have now). I put in 10W fork oil, and I think there is also 15W and 20W.
      Other methods: insert a stronger spring, or insert a longer spacer (which will make the existing spring to be harder).

    Excellent video. But I have a question , changing oil on my forks I've notice that the left fork spring is smaller than the right one . Is that normal or is time to replace it? Or put a spacer?

    • @MyINNOVAMotorcycling
      @MyINNOVAMotorcycling  6 років тому

      I did not check if there was a gap between the two lengths of springs, I only checked that they separately meet the specification. A spacer with soft or weak steel will cause damage. I would not insert a spacer. What lengths did you measure? Because in any case a difference of one millimeter would make no difference. I have also shown that when you start ordering a few parts, it comes out more expensive than purchasing the whole fork, so you have to pay attention to that as well.

      Thanks, but I would not rely on my quick response, I'm usually slow, and sometimes it can take a weeks.
      Two centimeters is a strange and unlikely gap. Maybe you got two springs from different models? One before 2007 and the other after 2007, because according to the Hynes Guide, this is the gap between them, two centimeters.

      Yes, oil from other manufacturers, and oil more viscous like 15W(to stiffen forks), or more thinner like 5W.
      It must have a Fork Oil ("Fork Oil" written on it).
      I do not recommend deviating from the manufacturer's recommendations: Fork OIL10W

      If there is abrasion or wear then you need to replace. Sometimes it will be cheaper and of course also requires less work, to buying a new set of shock-absorbers(Forks). Try to check the cost of parts versus purchasing a complete set of a new shock-absorbers(FORKS).

      At your request I have checked again, these are the minimum dimensions that appear in Haynes Guide No. 4926 on page 5 * 1
      I do not know if the measurements are too short, I know that these are the minimum measurements according to Haynes' guide, less than that, according to the guide., the spring needs to be replaced.

      The standard size for the 2003 models is 316.3 cm, at least according to the Haynes guide, so I think you are holding the wrong spring.
      On the other hand,
      according to the same guide the standard for the 2007 model is 328.8 cm, and I measure 350 cm
      (time 8:23)
      , so I do not know how much we can trust that data in the guide. It happens, not much, even rare, but it happens that in books, even technical books of the manufacturers themselves, you will find mistakes.
      Bottom line, it's possible that (1) your spring did not fit your model, (2) old weakened spring , or (3) maybe you forgot to put one of the spacers? Or other assembly malfunction?

    • @MyINNOVAMotorcycling
      @MyINNOVAMotorcycling  5 років тому +2

      According to the manufacturer's instructions, it is recommended to replace fork oil every two years (Hopefully I am not mistaken about time). If you will decide to change oil, you will need to replace all the seals. In my case, I opend the fork because there was an oil breakout from one of the seals (the O RING at the top edge). When there is an oil leak, dirt will be stucking on the shock absorber, and you can also see signs of oil moisture. When the oil begins to come out, the fork stops functioning, and what you feel is only the strong vibrations of the spring, in such a situation it is very dangerous to ride.
