I will never tire of watching and LISTENING to Tony playing bass
Hi Elvis! Agreed! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Great timing for this video. I just picked up my first Bass. I have been dabbling in music ever since grade school. I never really got good at any instruments but I play for fun. I just turned 51 and decided to learn the bass and it was great to hear Tony's stories. So give me about 10 years and I'll give Tony a run for his money. Thanks for another great video.
Hi +Flux Cobalt Great! I love playing Bass, it's extremely rewarding! Have a marvellous time recoding and mixing, many thanks Warren
Hi Friends,
I hope you are doing marvelously well today! Recently, the fantastic Tony Franklin came by the studio to track some bass! We had a blast talking music, his story, learning about his basses, and of course recording music! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
+Produce Like A Pro I'll never forget seeing the MTV concert of The Firm back in the middle 80's. The concert was interspaced with interviews, and there was Jimmy Page talking about how he found Tony Franklin. With his London accent added to his slightly high pitched whisper of a voice (paraphrased here) ".......and I had never heard of him before. Really amazing, that." And Franklin's stunning, sonic ripping and zipping fretless bass lines accenting the groove. Coincidentally, I have been saving up to buy a fretless bass to add to my home studio collection. This video has been inspirational.
Hi +Piedscooter1 Wow! Fantastic! I'm going to have to find that interview! Thanks for letting us know! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
+Piedscooter1 Sorry....youtube is fighting me for some reason. The Page reference is at the beginning of the video. Check out Tony's bouffant - especially at 7 minutes
Hi +Piedscooter1 I just found it! Great stuff! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Incredible player! He was a fundamental part of supergroup Blue Murder. His trademark sound is one of my favorite elements on their first album a hidden gem of
Hard rock
Hi +Metalltool Fantastic! Yes I love Tony's playing on the Blue Murder Albums! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
This episode put a big smile on my face. And what a fantastic player Tony is! On top of that he seems to be a great guy as well. Thank you, Warren and Tony!
Hi +frazze toth Agreed Tony is amazing and is a great guy! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
That first Blue Murder album is underrated, as well as The Firm. Tony is a great bass player and collaborator.
Tony is a wonderful bassist. He truly loves that instrument and it shows. I’ve learned a lot from this interview. If you play, you really owe it to yourself to watch these.
Thanks ever so much
I learned a lot to!!!! They are true musicians and beautiful people..
Tony is a great player and a beautiful soul. I enjoyed this immensely … thankyou
Yes he is! Glad you enjoyed the video
Warren,
I love how you make videos of tracking sessions with musicians and interview them. It lets us learn about the instrument and get a little view of you in action as a producer, which really helps me with the transition from just recording my own stuff to knowing how to treat other musicians while recording them. And Tony's thoughts gave me so much insight into how I should play and produce bass. Wonderful video. Thank you so much.
-A young producer named John
Hi +jlmcgrael Thanks John! I appreciate your extremely kind words! I am blessed to be able to work with such amazing musicians as Tony! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren

Hi +Jim Gahagan Agreed 100%!! Thanks very much I really appreciate it! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
On one hand this era gives us the ability of "fix" things later on the DAWs and that's amazing, but having a great player with a great instrument trough a great pre. My god the magic of seeing this kind of things, this guy nails it on the first take. Sounds awesome right there.
That's some tasty bass playing, right there.
Hi +EclecticHillbilly Yes agreed! He Rocks! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
You're spot on about the limes Warren. Was a pleasure to listen to the banter...and watch Tony doing his thing. Thanks...
Love this! Tony played on most of my Album along with Gregg Bissonet, one of the best Bass players ever!!!!
+Produce Like A Pro I love these fucking episodes. I love all the stories, too. Especially from the featured bassists. And, what bass player didn't strip the finish off their bass back in the '70's? Lol. The internet is the shit, isn't it? Keep it up, man.
Tony's passion is awesome! You can tell he is totally into it.
Hi +TheFelineEmpire Agreed!! Tony rules! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Tony was a huge hero for me and completely blows the whole “don’t ever meet your heroes” thing because he is an incredibly gracious human being and I have had nothing but positive interactions with him.

Fantastic session! I always thought 'Limey' was a reference to the cliffs of Dover...... so there I go!

Hi +clowncleaner Agreed! Amazing feel! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
OMG that was really a great interview/recording session. And what a great person Tony is.
I know Glenn Fricker will see this, wonder if he's going to comment on this. This is Professional with a capital P. Has prepared, can play the song from beginning to end with one take, doesn't waste time in the studio for tracking... just a great role model for anyone wanting to call themselves a professional.
And i'm sure he's not playing year old strings either... might have even just restrung both. But that's not a big deal, since it's all part of the price when you get a professional to do the business.
Thanks for this :)
Beautiful... Thanx Warren..!!

As ever, great content Warren..... but also some memory jogging for me.... I bought my first 'decent' electric guitar from a music shop in Hereford if 1979..... I'd forgotten the name of the shop....Buzz Music..... a natural finish Fender strat.... still own it (along with a few others now) and still play it..... Thanks Tony for bumping that memory to the surface.....
Excellent episode. Really enjoy listening to people who so clearly love what they do talk about their art and how they came to discover their musical voice. Not to mention Tony is solid as rock.

Brilliant listening to you two talk. I've played bass in the made in Hull band at a gig with a member of Ken Dodds Notty ash orchestra (only two members I believe, a drummer and keyboards) He's called Terry Bell, or Terrible to his friends. Fantastic Keyboard player. Also My cousin Duncan Caulfield, who gave me my first bass, a Fenton Wheil, played in a band called Clinton Cardine who played a gig on the same bill as Pino Paladino (what a player) in the 70's and I'm sure he refered to him as the mad Italian.
awesome bass player ....met him at 48th street when I worked at Manny's Music,,,,,what a humble dude
What a great bass player and a great song...

Warren, this was the absolute best interview I have seen. No exceptions. I have a bass gig coming up in TN next week that is basically a tryout and I have just been frozen in my mind and thoughts about it. This really gave me some perspective. Thank you so much for sharing this! Cheers!
Aw shucks thanks ever so much! I really appreciate the kind words! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Produce Like A Pro : I just have to say thank you again Warren for this video. Why this video has helped me so much is the matter of fact basics of what Tony communicates; being prepared for the gig, having something ready to contribute; be social, but be truly about getting to work and delivering what your there to deliver; invest in yourself with musical knowledge, Tony reads and knows music from a young age giving him the ability to understand what and where he can contribute; be about your craft, no BS (my two cents); as a bass player deliver what the tune/song needs or is asked of you by who you are working for; be a team player, doing what is asked of you, not what your ego dictates; have the ability to translate what the producer suggests/asks for into musical performance. I know I ran on a bit here, but I cannot say enough good things about this video and the focus it helped me grab hold of prepping for a gig that is important to me. Thank you!!!
What a great interview!Tony comes across as an entirely affable chap, who also happened to be a monster bass player. Been aware of Tony's talent since the Firm. His playing stands toe-to-toe (on those 2 albums) with Rock Titans Jimmy Page & Paul Rogers, as well as consummate side-man Chris Slade. Thanks Warren!
really enjoyed that great bass playing, never really checked out Tony before but will have to look up his stuff being a fellow limey!!
Hi +71bassg Haha Yes Limeys Unite!! Tony is amazing! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Great interview. Thanks.
Hi +Bruce Johnson Thanks very much! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren

Hi +Robert Boyer Thanks very much for your great comment I really appreciate it! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
I totally dig videos of these great musicians doing their thing in the studio. My first band gig was playing fretless bass, and I love that sound! Still have the bass too, it's an Ibanez Blazer, killer tone :) Thanks for another great video!
Hi +Howard Hedger Me too! I love the fretless bass!! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Very cool 1 take tony great player , I did the same pickup add on as well on a couple of p basses I didn’t know anybody who didn’t do that . Keep the hammer and a flat blade screwdriver away from the bass player. Tony is great very cool .
