I’m 60 and just began my sewing journey. I’m learning so much from you and love the joy you have while creating. Also, in love with this skirt! ❤ Thank you 😊
I'm holding back tears and it's ridiculous. Your enthusiasm is infectious! I'm totally new to sewing, and I just love how you're willing to *show* your viewers what to do! I'm extremely extremely new, but watching your videos have given me the confidence to just *try*. I've gathered a ton of scrap cloth, made 6"x6" squares, and I'm going to practice sewing them together. If it all comes together as a skirt I like (I favor circle skirts!) then I'll try again with fabric I like! Petticoat included!
Blackwood cardigan, with a pocket hack I found on UA-cam. I have made it over 20 times. I have made it for my Mom, and sister, and niece. I wear them all the time!
Hello gorgeous Aussie girl. What a bright and brilliant talent you have. You make me wish i was young again to make these beautiful clothes. This world needs people like you in it..and your sewing room is divine..love from an old Aussie girl
I am inspired!!!!!! What wonderful work you do. I can hardly say I am a sewist in comparison. So glad the UA-cam algorithm brought you to me. I’m binge-watching and have subscribed. Magnificent!
OH Hi beautifuls!!!!!! What is your favourite/most worn creation or pattern? Mine is probably a tie between the Bob pant by Style Arc or the Helene Jeans by Anna Allen clothing. I really want to make the Birgitta Helmersson Zero waste patterns soon though!! Can't wait to hear in the comments x
The rowan bodysuit is my go to pattern for basics! Shirts, bodysuits, turtlenecks, you name it, it has it all. It's reaaaally simple, but simple things are great.
it's so amazing how many people can be inspired by one person, in this case you. i'm so hooked and definitely going to make a similar skirt from scraps and a friend of mine got inspired by you as well and made a patchwork jacket!
Sooo freekin cute! I appreciate the nerding out on the hem...and the all the seamripping! Being willing to seamrip to get the results you want is totally worth the hassle!
My favorit pattern is one i made myself. I based it off of the circleskirt, but made into pants. With pockets! The best feeling is, that you can make it in almost all kinds of fabric!
I love your corner of the internet! I’ve made the Megan Neilson Flint pants so many times, short, long, and as overalls, love the fit and the wide leg. They were the first pants I ever made and three years later I’m still just as scared of zips so I’ll be making them for a long time. Would highly recommend!
Love the skirt and love your hair. True,, I probably wouldn’t wear a skirt like that for all occasions but the addition of the petty coat is really fun. Thanks for sharing 😃
I am a gen x-er who has wanted to make a patchwork skirt for yearssssss! I could never find a pattern. I make quilts, but not a lot of garment experience. I love how you explained this and I hope to try making one now 💜
This is the most love I have ever seen someone put into making a skirt 🥰. Your positive vibe is so inspiring and I‘m feeling so motivated to patchwork something from all of my scrap fabric 😊
Omg. you are adorable. The skirt is adorable. This is perfect . These are my favorite patterns. No pattern. Or Frankenclothing. Upcycling. Whatever its called now. 😂
So wonderfully fun! This turned out amazing. It really reminded me of the patchwork skirt Barbara wears in the old British show The Good Life. I think it was diamonds instead of squares but this definitely had me thinking of that and how I instantly wanted one myself. I also loved your concept and approach and all the little touches - we all need some fairy magic in our lives! Ps. Definitely recommend The Good Life. Funny and cosy old watch.
DIY Daisy’s trapezoid skirt is my favourite because the shape and length suits me and it sews up in no time!! All you need is some beautiful fabric (washed linen or a fabulous print in cotton are my personal favourites). I could live in a selection of these paired with t-shirts in summer. Love the colours in this skirt Carly!! Thanks for sharing your process and thinking. It’s all really refreshing :)
Oooh I think you would love the construction of the wildflower designs Coquelicot skirt/pinafore!!! You could definitely patchwork the fabric so it was more 'your style' but it is such a cool pattern, I would love to see what you would do with it! ❤️❤️
I made this skirt using secondhand navy blue gingham shirts. I love it! It needs a petticoat but I wanted to be done so I haven’t made that yet. Thanks for the inspiration to be creative. I would love to show you my skirt.
You were so right about the hem facing! I'd never thought too much about them in the past but this is incredible. I'm thinking about trying to make a patchwork skirt or dress, although I don't use a sewing machine (we don't get on :P ) so might be a lonnnngg job by hand. You're super inspiring though!
I’ve been trying to learn to sew for years but never got around to it, but your channel is really helping inspire and help me plan what to make! I’ve always wanted a skirt like this but it seemed too intimidating. It seems a lot less intimidating now, so thank you!
Loved this skirt really got me thinking about making something similar. My number one go to pattern is Tilly and the huttons Stevie tunic with add on. I have a Gorman esque aesthetic and I can easily hack that pattern to be what I want.
I'm going to throw you a crochet pattern! Octopus for Premies by Crochet 365 and Knit Too. I take public transit to work so this is a great project for that time, and EVERY baby loves these. The story behind them so heartfelt (but some NICUs still don't allow) but it's great for ALL babies! They love the sensory of it and they love to whip them around. I've made SO MANY in just the last 6 months since discovering. Also, has anyone seen My Octopus Teacher on Netflix? ❤
Oh my goodness! This is an absolutely amazing skirt🤩You are a delight to watch and I will be making several of these for sure. Thank you for being amazing.
This is so stinkin CUTE! I wish I had time for sewing right now because I have all the things I need for this!, but I'll be tucking this away in my brain for my next school break (grad school is kicking my butt). My most used pattern is honestly just a circle skirt! I love them. :)
I like the positive energy you project in your videos, Carly. Have you ever consider putting your bed up as a lift bed so you can free up the floor space?
I love this skirt so much! There is something just so magical about using up scraps to make such joyful pieces like this! 🤩💖 And your videos are honestly the best! You inspire me more than I can say. Thank you Carly! ☀️🦋
Carly! Thank you for providing such wholesome, feel-good sewing content! A pattern I love is the Shop Pants by Open Studios patterns. The pattern has really detailed instructions and a full UA-cam sew-along series. The pants have a really nice barrel leg shape with a cool angular pocket detail. Would highly recommend!
so so so FREAKIN CUTE!!! so much love for this!! this is so inspiring!!!! i tried to do some thing like this and i think i doubled each tear. SO as you can imagine it was so HEAVY that the waist band was only about 12 in around. i have a 44 in waist. then because all my fabric was second hand, some of it was so old that it was coming apart. the first wash was a MESS of threads!! if i do this again, zigzag will be essential.
This is so beautiful! I have been dreaming about making this exact skirt since I was in high school, but with all black and dark jewel tone fabrics. I taught myself to see a couple of years ago, so I can actually make it, and you've given me the inspiration I need to jump in and do it!! As for question about favourite pattern, bits so hard to say because I constantly get excited about trying new things all the time!
so, this just popped up on my feed....you are such a joy to watch and full of information!! I've subscribed. Now I am off to watch more of your wonderful videos,😊
This is exactly what I've been looking for in a skirt! Can you tell me how you got the measurements for the first tier so I can try my hand at one? It looks like you just doubled from there until you got the volume you wanted, but I just need help with the starting point. Thanks for making such fun content!
This was sooo inspiring!! I love seeing your work on instagram, and now seeing the process here on youtube makes me feel like I could actually make something similar!! So happy to be seeing more of you on youtube:')
You are amazing. I just found you and love you and all the crafts you make. Love your hair!!. I am a quilter and getting in to sewing skirts. I love this idea . Thank you and stay awesome 😊❤
Do you have a rule of thumb howw much bigger the tiers get each time? Or did you just eyeball that? Love the skirt, I'll definitely try to make something similar!
Hi. This is my 1st time viewing your video. I love the skirt, however, for me, I didn't find this to be a "beginner's sewing tutorial" video. I'll have to watch it a few more times to understand how you did this. Thank you for sharing.
What are the circumferences of the first two tiers, compared to your waist measurement (if you want to share)? I'm trying to pattern a skirt based off of this, but I'm not confident about the top part of it.
omg sooooo cute! do you do a measurement for the starting tier? ie its double your waist measurement? i also need to learn more about hem facing....also, hello from another fellow aussie :)
Beautiful skirt! I love the hem facing, looks so good. I was wondering: when you do patchwork garments how do you pick thread colour? Edit to add: i just realised there's so little visible stitching on this project you could really use up all those random thread bobbins! I think my favourite pattern hasn't quite been born yet. I have two button up shirt patterns which I've used a bunch of times - the Waikerie shirt by Muna and Broad and the Bloom shirt by Make by The Fabric Store. I love the fit of the bloom shirt and the collar of the waikerie shirt so I want to merge them together into my dream pattern!
Still need to start find fabrics for a simular skirt. I also love the red dress you have on. You made it or is it from store? Edited. Aha son de flor. Just wrote before you told us. Ops
I've been sewing for 3 years. I've only used one actual pattern, and I didn't even follow the instructions 🤷♀ Mostly I use clothes I own, or just go by my measurements to draft a pattern. I watch sewing UA-cam videos, and also just figure things out with trial and error.. so I guess you could say I'm self taught?
Hi Carly…I found you recently..I am a quilter…love patchwork…I am amazed at the garments you make with patchwork fabric…I just saw a new movie…It ends with us…the main character is wearing patch work garments…it made me think of you…check out the movie if you can
This is perfect to put together for my granddaughters. We all can collect pieces of fabric and make skirts then have a cousins photo shoot.
I’m 60 and just began my sewing journey. I’m learning so much from you and love the joy you have while creating. Also, in love with this skirt! ❤ Thank you 😊
That's awesome!!! I hope you're having the best time!! Sewing is so cool.
I'm holding back tears and it's ridiculous. Your enthusiasm is infectious! I'm totally new to sewing, and I just love how you're willing to *show* your viewers what to do! That skirt totally reminds me of the show "the big comfy couch" from the early 90's. Love it!!!
Blackwood cardigan, with a pocket hack I found on UA-cam. I have made it over 20 times. I have made it for my Mom, and sister, and niece. I wear them all the time!
Oooh love it!!!!

freaking cool! Love how chilli you are when you sew that piece. I tried doing it once and kinda gave up. But I guess I will try again.
you can do it!!!
Oooh I think you would love the construction of the wildflower designs Coquelicot skirt/pinafore!!! You could definitely patchwork the fabric so it was more 'your style' but it is such a cool pattern, I would love to see what you would do with it! ❤️❤️
I'm still figuring out how to work from a pattern. I usually costuming sewing so just cut to what I think will work. This was great fun to watch.
You could also add buttons to use with the loops, or with elastic loops, for a different look.
Very cute! I just wrapped up a patchwork project and I have another one on the agenda, so I think I will steal your ribbons and loops idea!
love that!! steal away!!!
I made this skirt using secondhand navy blue gingham shirts. I love it! It needs a petticoat but I wanted to be done so I haven’t made that yet. Thanks for the inspiration to be creative. I would love to show you my skirt.

Hi. This is my 1st time viewing your video. I love the skirt, however, for me, I didn't find this to be a "beginner's sewing tutorial" video. I'll have to watch it a few more times to understand how you did this. Thank you for sharing.
I'm sorry!! It probably is a bit more intermediate!! Let me know if you have any questions & I'll do my best to reply!
YES!!! But why no pockets?? 🥺

Thanks lovley this was so useful.

If you have another band like the tan one, you should add some fabric flowers
oh my god i'm obsessed i'm definitively considering making one for this summer !! i love your channel this was an instant subscribe moment haha
This is so gorgeous! How do you decide the circumference of the top gathered layer?
Did you find that the doubling up of the petticoat and the skirt was to heavy? I love your idea's and that skirt looks amazing.
What are the circumferences of the first two tiers, compared to your waist measurement (if you want to share)? I'm trying to pattern a skirt based off of this, but I'm not confident about the top part of it.

Everything needs more pockets
Hi Carly…I found you recently..I am a quilter…love patchwork…I am amazed at the garments you make with patchwork fabric…I just saw a new movie…It ends with us…the main character is wearing patch work garments…it made me think of you…check out the movie if you can
