    • @PiyushPatil1512

      GLACIER does have an option for Standard Deduction for Indian students. It’s applied in your Form 1040-NR Line 12.

    Hey, I did not receive any info on "Enter the name, address, and telephone number of the director of the academic or other specialized program you participated
    in during 2023:" from my university, can I leave this blank?

    • @PiyushPatil1512

      Hi..I think that it would not be a good idea to leave it blank.
      I would suggest you to contact your department regarding this. If you don’t hear back from them, I think you can put the information of DSO on your I-20. This is what GLACIER software does!!

    Glacier automatically applies a US-India Tax Treaty standard deduction for me ($13850). Is that correct for an F1 student? Would I need to fill any additional forms for it?

    • @PiyushPatil1512
      @PiyushPatil1512  9 місяців тому

      Yes Gaurav. That’s right. According to Article 21 (2), Indian students are eligible for Standard Deduction similar to USA citizens.
      You can refer to this PDF if you want to know more: www.irs.gov/pub/irs-trty/india.pdf
      But, you DON’T need to fill any additional forms. GLACIER fills out every form for your for FEDERAL TAX. You just have to print, sign, date and mail the docs to IRS.
      You will still need to fill separate forms for State tax. GLACIER doesn’t do that.
      I hope this helps!

    Hi Piyush, I am a student at UC Irvine and I did not earn any income in financial year 2023 in California. But I am filing federal tax form 8843, do I also need to file CA state tax forms. If yes, which forms should I be filing?

    • @PiyushPatil1512
      @PiyushPatil1512  10 місяців тому +1

      Hi Jaideep.
      Please refer to this article by California Government: www.ftb.ca.gov/file/personal/residency-status/part-year-and-nonresident.html
      If you are single with 0 dependants, you DON’T need to file California taxes if your gross income is less than $21,561. So you don’t need to file anything with California!

      @@PiyushPatil1512 Thank you so much! So I just need to fill 8843 and mail them? Or is there a possibility to send it online?

    • @PiyushPatil1512
      @PiyushPatil1512  9 місяців тому

      Yes that’s right. I don’t think you can send it online. You will need to File Form 8843 with the IRS by mail.
