Kandy to Ella Famous Train - DON'T Make This Mistake! 🙄🇱🇰

Today I and ‪@betsythomps‬ traveled from Kandy to Ella on the famous blue train. This was probably the most beautiful and scenic train journey in the whole world and we thoroughly enjoyed it. It took about 7 hours in total but time does fly when you've got your head stuck out of the window the whole time. However, we did make one big msitake, so make sure you don't make the same mistake as us!

17000 is outrageous. Just get a normal unreserved 2nd class ticket. Worse case you can hang out and sit at the door watching the scenery

Yes it was bloody theft! We did consider that, however we had plenty of large bags and plenty of valuable items we didn’t want to leave unattended 😫🇱🇰

Could have asked couple of people to keep an eye. Theft is rare here. Most of the time people mistakenly take bags or footwear thinking its theirs. @@dunneytravels

I'm so sorry to hear that you got scammed like this. The tickets sell out because scammers like the person you got your tickets from buy out entire carriages and resell the tickets with a hefty markup. Please share the name of the entity that sold you that ticket... I live in sri Lanka and I am disgusted by this kind of behaviour... I do hope you enjoyed your trip though

It is still the British Railway system and nothing has been charged.

Heya which private company did you go to? I'm flying in a week and stumped across the same problem to buy a ticket

We used Viator, it came to $50 per person for reserved seats in 2nd class 🥴 we did however get the train twice and bought our second lot of tickets from the counter at Nanu Oya to Ella, much cheaper but unreserved (we were lucky and got seats as soon as we got on). You’ll want a reserved ticket from Kandy to Ella as it’s a super long journey without a seat but you might get lucky if you chance it on the day 🙌🏼

most overrated train ride, takes too long, almost takes 11 hours from Colombo to Ella, shame to be a Sri lankan, its the most boring train journey lol, the marketing team must've not been to other beautiful destinations😅
