Another Perk about the vortex disks is that they just floated in the air for the longest time, meaning that they remained a threat for much longer. remember, as long as its in the air, and not touching the ground, its still live! a well paced nitron or pyragon can turn an area into a proverbial floating minefield, which proves walcom's point of supressive fire perfectly. The fact that they had a natural, predictable curve also meant that you could at least predict where a disk would go. I'm surprised nobody has made a 3D printed blaster for vortex yet, although to be fair, vortex disks are uncommon...
There's nothing I love more than being the local "Vortex guy". People always get a kick out of my Nitron when I'm throwing a wall of discs that hit nothing 😂
I've asked, they said point blank that they have no interest because the market isn't large enough and they'd have to engineer their own disc design, apparently.
just a note on the stock length: 11-year-old me found this to be an absolute monster to wield. But the thing stomped all the other blasters I had at the time, making it a toss-up as to whether or not I'd use it. (Actually I think I just used my Praxis instead with the Nitron's mag because the Nitron inhaled ammo lol)
Man I miss disc launchers. They were pretty big in my school in the early-mid 2000's. To the point of the school banning them LOL. I've got some chinese full auto disc shooters in the mail that I ordered purely for nostalgia purposes.
Definitely loved the vortex line, being 1 of the few blasters I owned, the single shot blaster was tons of fun especially with the ricochet disc. Hope I can get a nitron one day and mod it to shoot like the boom version
The Nitron was a lot of fun, and its magazines had a much smaller cross sectional area which makes them a little easier to carry. I had a project where I was going to combine a nitron and a rapidstrike, but never really finished it. I do have a separate nitron converted for LiPo, though, with the jam lever switch thing on the top converted to a semi/full auto fire mode selector. On the subject of vortex, I remember an old video of yours from years ago that sold me on the Diatron. Also a very nifty blaster.
Because they were disks, there were so many cool tricks you could do by just aiming the blaster at a different angle so the discs curve, or shoot it at 90 degrees to make it aggressively accurate, or bounce disks off walls to hit people behind corners.
In a stock configuration it is great for suppression those discs just float. And don't forget the stupid fire mod that people can do (Boom Nitron) yeah I heard the thing was so stupidly High you had to make a custom gravity magazine made out of a shop Bar Light.
I never had vortex when I was younger but damn did the blasters look sick. I should probably track a vortex blaster down, along with some other nerf blasters I missed out on.
When GI Joe recently released their 6 inch series and they wanted cool sci-fi weapons, they gave them Vortex Nitron and Proton. (and Rapidstrike and Longstrike).
I remember the first time one of my friends showed up with this thing. He had the 20-rounder in the stock, and a Pyragon drum loaded. He wrecked us all (multiple times) and we had to ban him using the Nitron with the Pyragon drum, though he could still use them separately. I will say though, seeing him holding the drum in place with a strip of duct tape was quite funny.
I watched this video a couple days ago and after finishing it, I bought a Nitron with its scope off Ebay. It was roughly around ~$45 in USD. It works really fine, and I like just spraying the discs into a hallway and just watching them bounce around.
I wonder when people will realize that these dumb It's Morbin' Time meme variations, as well as the original, originated from a Power Rangers catchphrase.
I really like the innovative design of vortex, it was an amazing ammunition and the blasters were brilliantly designed and nerf hasn't had innovation like that since the infinus. I've always liked the design of the vortex drum and wondered why no one ever used the same mechanism for standard darts, truly a shame
I never really got into the Vortex line, but I can definitely appreciate their use. I love the mod mentioned too, because you can basically just spray a horizontal blade/wall of discs that are difficult to dodge at medium to close range.
Need to work on my 3d printed designs again so I can make use of the buckets of clearance ammo I hoarded...it's been a while, and Vortex is more fun than it has any right to be.
I got one not too after The Nitron first came out, I still have to this day after over 11 years ago, mine still performs perfectly and the scope that came with mine, I still use the scope to this day as well, I respectly agree that The Vortex series by Nerf really do need to come back
I enjoy your 'gush about cool blaster' vids. Like, it doesn't have to be the best just seeing you enjoy whatever blaster you're talking about is a treat
This was the last blaster I remember getting before I started buying my own. I got it around when it came out, and the first time I bought a blaster was this year. I recently got a Kronos and a Centurion. I love the Kronos, but I'm not so sure about the Centurion's ergonomics.
Picture this: a top loading design where you can just continually stack disks into an open magazine while someone else shoots it, Bren LMG style and possibly mounted onto a tripod or something.
That's great. I can imagine you going there and running wherever to dig it out while they keep calling you for dinner as an adult, just like they probably did when you were a children.
i had the praxis. such a fun little shotgun style blaster. vortex was so cool, however my personal theory they stopped the line was cause of how hard they hit. i remember splitting open a friends lip with a lucky shot
I haven't touched nerf in years but I still have my Nerf Vigilon. It was one of the first nerf guns I had as a kid and I have huge nostalgia for nerf vortex.
I remember when I got my nitron for xmas well over a decade ago, one of the 3 screws for the battery port got lost but other than that it still works and has all of it's parts
I truly believe this was just ahead of its time. Nerf tournaments would be a lot more visually appealing for viewers if everyone had one of these, not to mention the huge versatility bouncing disks have over darts
The Vortex Nitron is even more fun when you load The Vortex Pyragon 40 round magazine drum into it so that you have quite a bit more Nerf Vortex firepower
My kids and I LOVE playing with mine in the back yard. I remember the Nitron came about as a much requested, better blaster. Really, it was killed because players missed the look and feel of placing bullets in a gun. Too bad; they are fantastic machines of mayhem!
I remember I was really getting into nerf right when Vortex was about to be revealed. It was such a cool new world of non-dart shooting blasters and the ads leading up to the release were just as cool. Nowadays, it's nice to see the GI Joe 6-inch line use nerf guns as figure accessories, and believe the Nitron got made in the line, so if you collect figures try to keep an eye out! Great review and great blaster!
Ngl, overhauling the motors and electronics in my nitron was one of the more fun and rewarding projects I've done. Kept the original pusher system too rather than using a rapidstrike type pusher too.
I think a 2 wheel or bearing bcar like device could work, 2 flat wheels lightly pinching the disc could maybe help with precision, not sure about accuracy
This may be a spicy claim, but in my opinion, the nerf Nitron had the best ergonomics of any blaster Hasbro has ever put out, the big stock and fixed vertical grip in the front Was super comfy when fielding these things (for me at least) everything just kinda meshes into the hands in all the right ways and was a disk hose when you gave it some love. Hasbruh, give us back Vortex.
This was easily one of my favorite Tag Back videos you've ever done, because Vortex was just so darn neat and I entered the hobby a little too late to ever get to use it. I'd love to see a video on the Praxis to keep that Vortex train going! 👍🥏
Kind of a shame the Nitron scope was never recolored and used in Elite, Modulus or Zombie Strike. It's my favorite Nerf scope attachment, looks great. I'm glad to have one.
Love vortex, the Nitron was the first blaster I bought, for my sons Christmas, we have had so much fun I bought another so we could fight each other and I've been into Nerf ever since and now own almost & blasters 😂
I have a modded one! I replaced the firing mech motor with a kraken, and kept the flywheel motor stock, then rewired for lipo. It was a bit of a nightmare for my first flywheeler mod, and the result was a very fast rate of fire with ridiculously poor accuracy. Unfortunately the pinion gear on the firing mech came loose, and I still haven't gotten around to fixing it, though I may replace it with a solenoid. I'd love to paint it up like a flamethrower of some sort
Me and my siblings used to go to massive nerf wars with these and we were probably the nvps with these guns because we got so good at controlling the ricochet
I do like this thing, but for my money the Pyragon can't be beat in Vortex. The slamfire's so buttery smooth on that thing that you can send a cloud of 40 discs down range in no time.
Hey walcom I just picked up what I believe to be two dart tag fire strikes according to what I could find on the nerf wiki I don’t have a need or use for them would you like them. To be fair though the plastic shell isn’t in great condition but as far as I can tell they are in working condition.
I admit vortex has its limitations, especially outdoors but it is just fun. Accurate enough to be decent but not too serious to lose the fun. While I love all of the Vortex line with the exception of the Vigilon(which is just okay), I think my favorite nerf blaster is the Proton. Outstanding ergonomics, especially the grip, true iron sights, and great looks. If only it had a magazine like the Zombie Strike Fusefire (smaller of course), it would be the ultimate sidearm.
Another Perk about the vortex disks is that they just floated in the air for the longest time, meaning that they remained a threat for much longer. remember, as long as its in the air, and not touching the ground, its still live!

Didn’t Captain Slug tease a Vortexburn a while back?
Same thing with the praxis
There's nothing I love more than being the local "Vortex guy". People always get a kick out of my Nitron when I'm throwing a wall of discs that hit nothing 😂
If dartzone wants to make disc blasters, I'm all for it
I've asked, they said point blank that they have no interest because the market isn't large enough and they'd have to engineer their own disc design, apparently.
I could see this happen, not a huge line, maybe 3-4 blasters
just a note on the stock length: 11-year-old me found this to be an absolute monster to wield. i love how much walcom embraces his nerdness and i love him for it
A good possibility: put the scope from that vortex blaster on the Halo MA-40
Definitely loved the vortex line, being 1 of the few blasters I owned, the single shot blaster was tons of fun especially with the ricochet disc. Hope I can get a nitron one day and mod it to shoot like the boom version
That was the Proton. That thing had no right being as fun as it was.
boomco and now vortex... your killing me sir. I will continue to be that guy at the borst wars running boomco and vortex. A+!

What's fun about vortex is you can get glow disc. Just something cool about the disc floating out there in the dark.
I picked up the blaster, the scope, and 40 round drum and a std mag for $30 and love it! Thanks for boom version battery upgrade reminder!
In a stock configuration it is great for suppression those discs just float. And don't forget the stupid fire mod that people can do (Boom Nitron) yeah I heard the thing was so stupidly High you had to make a custom gravity magazine made out of a shop Bar Light.

Nerf gets used a lot for sci-fi films, one of the nerf guns I remember seeing in one of the red dwarf films were just painted mega Magnus'.
Vortex is my absolute favorite line! I'm glad you covered it and you'd be surprised just how effective they can be for indoor arena play!
I'm loving all the energy in these videos lately. Keep it up.
The constant rotation of the shots do make me a little dizzy, but I understand.
I remember the first time one of my friends showed up with this thing. He had the 20-rounder in the stock, and a Pyragon drum loaded. 1:16 I found one of those at a garage sale and put it on my vortex gun
Vortex was just fun to goof with. I never got to use a Nitron much, but I loved the Pyragon.
Under optimal conditions you can skip Vortex discs off the ground and score a really unexpected tag
I watched this video a couple days ago and after finishing it, I bought a Nitron with its scope off Ebay. It was roughly around ~$45 in USD. It works really fine, and I like just spraying the discs into a hallway and just watching them bounce around.
I remember having a nitron when I was younger. The scope didn’t work on mine sadly, but the blaster was really fun while I still had it.
Anyone else remember the Vortex Tornado? Launched Rings like an O instead of a frisbee

I've always liked the design of the vortex drum and wondered why no one ever used the same mechanism for standard darts, truly a shame
I love this blaster! And the fusefire, the potential of this ammo type for game play is so huge!
Hard agree. The Praxis is my hands-down favorite blaster, I would love to see Vortex get some love.
I never really got into the Vortex line, but I can definitely appreciate their use. I love the mod mentioned too, because you can basically just spray a horizontal blade/wall of discs that are difficult to dodge at medium to close range.
Love my boom Nitron. And that scope is the best
I got one of those in my room. I don't have any disks and I don't think it actually works but it's cool.
Need to work on my 3d printed designs again so I can make use of the buckets of clearance ammo I hoarded...it's been a while, and Vortex is more fun than it has any right to be.

Thanks to you and Dr. Flux, I just pulled the trigger {pun intended} on a Nitron along with a Pyragon drum. I can't wait to run it in a war.
I still keep my Vigilon on hand at all times, bought some aftermarket refils for it and its just so fun to fire when im bored or just mess with it
I enjoy your 'gush about cool blaster' vids. Like, it doesn't have to be the best just seeing you enjoy whatever blaster you're talking about is a treat

Could you do a video on internal mag fed guns? Like the Quick 16, Fortnite SP, and a ton of Vortex/Rival blasters
Absolutely agree, vortex needs to come back.
Sadly I’m pretty sure people care more about practicality rather than just having fun and stuff so I don’t think it’s gonna return
I was able to thrift a Pyragon a while back. Nice find. Too bad it's locked up until I can get a single damn disc.
All my Vortex blasters were thrifted and the ammo wasn't that hard to get online iirc, genuine but that was over a year ago already.
As someone who plays disc golf, I enjoyed the reference…. and the vortex line.
This man convinced me to Kijiji hunt for a diatron. I still have that bad boy and it still makes the best shotgun
This blaster is killer with integrations!
The Vortex Nitron is even more fun when you load The Vortex Pyragon 40 round magazine drum into it so that you have quite a bit more Nerf Vortex firepower
