    Nick D'Virgilio sits down with Bill Ludwig III (President of WFLIII) to talk about what goes into making a world-class snare drum. The Ludwig family has enjoyed more than a century in the drum-making industry. Today, Bill Ludwig III brings the spirit of innovation to a whole new generation of drummers with his heirloom-quality snares. Bill's shell and hardware technology make the WFL III Drums 1909 Series aluminum snare an instrument you'll be proud to play and pass down to your loved ones.

    Wonderful to see the Ludwig tradition of greatness carried on by WFLIII. When I was a teenager, my Mom promised to buy me a snare if I proved I was going to stick with the drums by learning the rudiments properly. When I satisfied her standards, Mom, who had played drums in high school and college, told me Ludwig made the best snare drums, and that was all she was going to buy for me. Her high school band director, B.M. Cherry, who had played with John Phillip Sousa, insisted on using Ludwig snares when my Mom was in the band (1940-1944) and told my Mom they were the best drums made, so Mom always believed that. Mr. Cherry had retired but ran a small music store, selling only the best stuff, in the front room of his house. He sold me an Acrolite (he refused to sell me a Supraphonic because "the only difference is chrome and $80.00"), with a date stamp of 1971 for $110.00. I bought it in 1976. So, Mr. Cherry had it in his store five years before I bought it. And, of course, I still have it and play it today. Snare drums designed by a Ludwig and made to the Ludwig standards are truly unsurpassed.

    Ludwigs have some of the best snare sounds I've heard, I swear. I don't think I'd use anything else. Perfect for metal and jazz.

    Ludwig snare drum's have that special sound like no other. To this day the Aluminum Acrolite is still a stellar drum for the price

    Fantastic sound, very VERY high-end quality at a very fair price. Bill is the real deal knows and understand drums....and that’s that. I have a snare it cracks warmth like nothing I’ve ever played.

    Ludwig survived, when other great companies like Slingerland and Rogers, didn’t.
    Better management, but also fabulous drums.
    About half the price of some big name drums today......crazy.

      None of the companies survived. All were sold off and bad management killed them. Trying to resurect dead companies is a nostalgia thing. Look what happened to Schwinn bicycles. Buy vintage and get the real deal.

      It's the closest they could get to his grandfather's life without infringing on the patent that Conn/Selmer owns with Ludwig

    Is that red aluminum snare a red sparkle finish or a solid red finish?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  5 років тому

      Hi, TXMusicDrummer! The snare is aluminum with their Rockin' Red sparkle finish. You can check out the exact snare here: www.sweetwater.com/WFLIIIALRBR

    Less expensive than Black Beauties and the new Rogers.
