beautiful, thanks Ajahn Brahm for all that you do and are. I've learned alot from you. You make alot of sense and as i grow older i find i still don't really know anything about life but lean towards things that make sense. i will continue to learn from you until someone else makes more sense....haha i'm not so sure that will happen though.
To established enlightment you will need to understand these teachings? They are the four foundations of mindfulness, the four right efforts, the four constituents of psychic power, the five faculties, the five powers, the seven factors of enlightenment, and the Noble Eight-fold Path In vipassana practice all these 37 enlightment factors is withing it. So if one practice vipasanna correctly, attainment can be established. This is instruction from the BUDDHA. If you sincerely seek enlightment in mind purification, Vipasanna is the way. But you will need an ariya vipasanna teacher to guides you when you need help. May all sincere heart seeking enlightment have opportunity to meet the right teacher to guide one to ENLIGHTMENT. Insight is knowledge to the truth and panna is wisdom to nibanna. 1st jhanna cannot experience nibanna because ceaseation does not happen at 1st jhanna. That is why Kalama sutta say DO NOT CONFIRM ANYTHING JUST BECAUSE IT AGREES WITH YOUR SCRIPTURES YOU SHOULD GO BEYOND OPINION AND BELIEF. You can rightly reject anything which when accepted, practised and perfected leads to more aversion, more craving and more delusion. They are not beneficial and are to be avoided. And the reverse are to be accepted as truth. This should be your criteria on what is and what is not the truth. When accepted and practise leads to unconditional wisdom that allow you to develop and progress and peaceful mind. BUDDHAM SARANAM GACCHAMI
Monks, although a monk who does not apply himself to the meditative development of his mind [bhavana[note 1]] may wish, "Oh, that my mind might be free from the taints by non-clinging!", yet his mind will not be freed. For what reason? "Because he has not developed his mind," one has to say. Not developed it in what? In the four foundations of mindfulness, the four right kinds of striving, the four bases of success, the five spiritual faculties, the five spiritual powers, the seven factors of enlightenment and the Noble Eightfold Path
