The song's composer is from Spain (José Padilla), but the melody is inspired from the signature tune in Charlie Chaplin's 1931 "City Lights" (music composed by Chaplin himself). Incidentally that film also features 'The Tramp' falling in love with a blind flower girl. Through her beautiful rendition, Ms. Balasaraswathi's pays nothing short of a fitting and melodious tribute to the original genius.

I believe this song was rewritten by my Uncle, Datuk Peter Pragas sometime in the early 1950's. Its his only son Adrian who worked very hard at finding this original version n posted it on youtube --- not anyone else. My Uncle Peter was a renowned musician in the Indian film industry n particularly Gemini Studious , in the early 1950's.

The voice of Balasaraswathi is very melodious and ethereal. It was a great hit back in the early 50's in Madras when I was growing up . Sri Ranjani and T R Ramachandran acted well in this Gemini movie . Unfortunately the movie was not a box office hit to the great disappointment of S S Vasan and T R Ramachandran. Venkat.

My Dad (Peter Pragas) may have had something to do with that. I was informed by my elder relatives that my Dad rewrote the song "Will you buy my violiets" into hindi and it was a hit in India. There was also a tamil version. My Dad rewrote it with Gemini Studios when he was working in India.
