You need to check out his podcasts with Conan. “Conan needs a friend” podcast and look for episodes called “Deep dive with Dana Carvey” they are like 2-3 episodes.
Dana's actual voice doesn't always sound exactly like the person he's doing, but he knows HOW to talk like anybody. He knows the way the talk, not necessarily their voice, which in my mind is more impressive.

Guys....he's not trying to sound like them. He's "acting" like them. It's like watching jim Carrey do an impersonation, they both get the face movements and mannerisms down perfectly. It's not a "voice" impression.

Xavier Jones he's famous for comedic impressions, not accurate ones. An accurate impression is just acting, it's not necessarily funny.

To be fair, his liam neeson impression was really bad. I can't do a liam neeson impression, but I also don't claim that I can either.

TonyisCreating No its not. Impressions aren't based on sarcasm they're based on exaggerating the characteristic of the person being impersonated. The comedic value of a good impression is that it's rooted in reality. It wouldn't be funny if you were setting up an Obama impression by saying he's always nervous bc it's the opposite, he's usually a cool cucumber.
Same with this Liam Neeson impression. It's not funny bc it's just a lazy caricature of a Scottish man yelling Taken lines. And Liam neesons movies don't always start out with a phone call like he said. That's just a lazy inaccurate observation.
I just think he misused the word 'animated'.

You have to understand Carvey's impersonations. They aren't going to be dead on. They are going to be close but they still are really funny. Its how he puts these little quips that makes it funny.

Wow... how is no one in the comments getting the sarcasm of the impressions. They aren't supposed to be accurate. Carvey is known for his accurate impressions and the joke is that he's revealing a new impression and an "old" impression and they turn out terrible. If you've heard Carvey's other impressions this would be much more obvious I guess... but come on guys, learn to sarcasm.
