The recipe is simple 2 kilos of preserving sugar with pectin and 2 kilos of any oranges! The instructions are in the video.?
@@lesleythomson2823 no idea, sorry.
@@lesleythomson2823 Hi. I think you sieve/strain the peel out after cooking and before putting in the jars.
@@lesleythomson2823 On second thoughts, perhaps by the time the marmalade was cool enough to strain it would be too set to transfer to the jars. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
@@lacyjude I would not be marmalade then.
Hi ! I just made Grapefruit marmalade . So lovely ! The recipe called for chopped Glace ginger .I didn't have any of that but will try that next time . Lovecyour channel Jane . We re retired and living on a shoe string in Cape Town South Afica . Very happily . Appreciate all your suggestions .
Sounds great!
Oh yes, i make marmalade, damson, plum, blackberry, strawberry & respberry jams plus blackberry & apple, & quince jellies. Lots of different chutneys & pickles. Whatever there is a glut of ends up in one or the other. I made some pickled red cabbage just before Christmas to use up the red cabbage I was braising as a side for Christmas lunch. I'll have to make more soon though as part of a cabbage won't be anything like enough! Tricia
We love making our own preserves here! My husband is the marmalade maker and i do all our jams, jellies and fruit 'cheeses' from fruits we grow in our garden. Always have a good store on hand. I like to includes some marmalade in a loaf cake, gives a lovely result, for instance treacle ginger and marmalade. I use jams and jellies in many ways including instead of sugar with the fruit for a fruit crumble or crisp, it gives extra depth of flavour.
All sounds delicious
I often stir a generous tablespoonful into a fruitcake when mixing It gives a lovely flavour to the cake.Diane from Cornwall UK.x
This just reminded me of a funny story: about 40 years ago, my first attempt at jam making, I went into the living room to ring my mother to clarify how to know setting point … she told me the whole jam making process, then realised I was making it now and ‘ who’s stirring it now ?’ I dashed back just in time before it burnt 😆
When I had my husband and children where all at home and all looking for sweet treats I made Jam when fruit was plentiful, marmalade when oranges were cheap pickles when veg from the garden needed preserving. It was great fun, the family loved it and it saved me hundreds of pounds on my grocery budget over the years. Now as a widow living alone I don’t do it as I would never manage to eat it up but for anyone with hungry mouths to fill it’s a no brainier.
I make chutneys, pickle onions, hedgerow jam and yummy marmalade
I'm in the same situation but I still do it. It makes lovely gifts which don't cost me a fortune & my family anticipate their jars & packets (dried herbs/salts). I also donate it to Church & Guide sales or raffles. At Christmas I sometimes make a home made Christmas hamper (preserves, mincemeat, cake, pudding etc & sometimes some sloe gin...) for our church raffle. Tricia
I can almost smell that toast and marmalade. Your Instant pot certainly helps with the cooking time. I use my microwave for sterilizing jars. great video.
Never thought of the microwave, good idea
It's many years since I made marmalade, but home-made was so much nicer tasting than any shop bought type. The recipe I used recommended adding the zest of one lemon - for extra pectin. It always set well, and you couldn't taste the lemon.
Great tip
Thank you Jane for the wonderful video. I also make marmalade. I used to make it from my own oranges but my tree fell victim to a fungus here is Florida - so now I have to purchase the oranges. My biggest tip is to taste the oranges before you make the jam. Some do not have a strong orange flavor. I have a fig tree and make fig perserves every year. I also take any leftover fruit - strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and grapes - chop them up and cook with a little water, some sugar and lemon slices. I add any bits of leftover jam if I have it. This makes a wonderful, frugal mixed berry jam and nothing goes to waste.
Thanks so much for sharing
Thank you so much for sharing this simple recipe. Just yesterday a friend gave me free oranges 🍊 from her garden. Today I saw your video and I just finished making orange marmalade for my family!
Thanks for the feedback and enjoy the marmalade
I can almost smell it ! Delicious😉 I have hardly ever bought marmalade and it doesn’t compare with homemade. Here in UK the best oranges to use are the Seville oranges, which are absolutely bitter if you try to eat one, but wonderful for making marmalade. The only problem is that they’re only available to buy for about two weeks in the year, sort of end of January into February, so you need to make enough to last the year if, like me, your breakfast is always toast and marmalade! This year, however, I made one batch and then froze a bag of oranges to make later. Love your videos!
Thanks Pam.
Jane you demystified preserve making for me, thank you!
I like to make jams from fruits and berries. Orange marmalade I just chop the oranges and after it boils I smash them in a blender. The orange peels I use in making my own cleaningagent with vinegar, also a frugal recipe ☺️
I grew up in Oregon where they grow many types of berries. I've made strawberry jam, raspberry jam, boysenberry jam, as well as apple-quince jelly, apple butter, and helped make grape jelly from our grapevines. Marmalade is something I have never tackled, but I think I will after watching this!
Thanks Linda, it’s lovely
That was fun to view! Looks delicious too. The frozen plate test was a great tip.
Thanks Stephanie
Yes, have made a variety of jams and jellies over the years. Marmalade is also wonderful on baked chicken.
Oh yes, it’s lovely as a glaze
I enjoy making jam. Its a fun, rewarding project.
I've not made marmalade for years but your video has inspired me to get to it and make some 👍xx
It’s so delicious
Inspiring me to make marmalade thanks Jane. Never made jam before, but I do collect jars! I use jars for everything.
I never have enough jars
Thank you Jane for these fabulous video I don’t make marmalade but make plenty of jam, it was lovely having a chat with everyone. Take care ♥️💋
Thanks Wendy for your continued support
Loved watching and hearing you. Yes, every orange 'mandarin' season, I do make marmalade here in San Diego, CA. I've been making it all week long to use up the bags of 'cuties' seedless mandarin oranges I've been purchasing. My husband loves it and so do I.
I use a very simple Instant Pot only method to make my perfect marmalade. Oh it is sooo easy no fuss and very little mess. I get 4 jars each go round. Only requires sugar ' I use organic' and mandarins. I make 'Salted Pepper' recipe for (Quick & Easy Orange Marmalade ~ Pressure Cooker. She's on You Tube also.
Thanks for watching
This seems like a great gift idea also! Yum. I love orange marmy
I love having jars of home preserves to share
Yay for instant pot recipes
I made lemon and lime marmalade this week as I had quite a few in my Lidl £1.50 box. I used a 1kg bag of ordinary granulated sugar with 6 lemons and 3 limes plus about 2 pints of water. I put the pith and seeds into a muslin bag and cooked it with the peel and juice. It set really quickly and produced about 6 jars. It's quite sharp but I like it 🙂🍋🍈
Sounds great Terri
I was unaware of sterilizing jars in oven. Thank you
You’re welcome
Thanks so much for sharing this! I’m anxious to try making marmalade now
I used to make marmalade but found it too time consuming but your way in the instant pot seems like a great idea.
It does make it quicker
Last year I made apple cider jam since it was simple and I’d never made jam. This year I’m ready to try berry jams and your orange marmalade. I’ve cooked an orange marmalade pork loin before and it was so delicious 😋 Thank you for showing the InstaPot method!
You’re welcome and good luck with yours
Wonderful video. Great camera work Michael! I have made raspberry and strawberry jam. I have empty jars in my closet. I am in the US so I just need to figure out the sugar and buy some pectin. Love the idea of sugar jam! I am going to try marmalade!
Thanks Judy, get jamming.
For the last 35+ years, I've canned about 2000 jars of everything from meats to jams to veggies every year. Then, my mom who is a jam/jelly lover became diabetic. I started making jams, jellies and preserves using the honey from bees to sweeten her goodies. If you have to buy the honey, it would probably be pretty expensive; however, it's a great natural alternative. Loved your marmalade video. I made peach marmalade (peaches and oranges) last year.May be worth a try.
Thanks for the tip
Jane, I cannot wait to make this marmalade. Will make such a great simple breakfast with homemade bread, butter, hot spiced tea and delicious, delightful orange marmalade!
Looks delicious! Thank you for the tutorial. It looks easy enough for even me
It is very easy and cheap
Oh, yummmmmm! Definitely will be doing this!
Looks delicious! Thanks for showing how it's done - with the time saving Instant Pot!
Looking good Jane! I use marmalade in a boiled fruit cake recipe. Love marmalade.xx
You’re welcome
I love making jams and jellies, even if I don't eat many, I love making it for friends and family. I made peach jelly this year, but I've made mint, pepper, cherry and apple jellies. And cherry, strawberry freezer jams and black raspberries jam. I also can apple, pear and cherry pie filling.
I love making my own salsa, lime pickles, pickled beets, can green beans, tomato sauce, juice and spaghetti sauce. We also freeze squash, zucchini for bread, and sweet corn. I don't know what gives me the greatest pleasure seeing all the jars on my shelves or eating all the food I've prepared for my family.
All of that sounds wonderful
Hi Jane, so enjoyed watching you make the marmalade. I definitely will give it a try. Have made your apple crumble recipe several times. I do not usually have flour in my pantry so I put a cup of oats in the food processor and used that instead of flour. It worked just as well.
I went to 2 large supermarkets and wasn’t able to find yellow corn flour to make the soft tacos/burritos in either probably due to the supply shortages that everyone is experiencing worldwide. I wonder if I could make the tacos with chickpea flour? Love your cooking videos, especially the vegetarian ones. Blessings from Brisbane Australia 🇦🇺.
I love marmalade yummy
Thanks for watching
Looks delicious ,, never tried making marmalade but may just give it a whirl ,, coming to the end of my damson jam now ,, best wishes, Lisa
We still have a load of damson jelly, great in gravy with lamb
I haven't made marmalade for a few years as I have been able to purchase a reasonably priced real marmalade. However with prices rising I hope to do it again, sterilizing my jars the way my Mother did in the oven just like you. Thanks for the video from a Brit in the usa.
Thanks Hazel
👍🦋 wow inspires me to try to make it.
Thanks very much for watching
I try to make jam every year - strawberry if fruit is cheap enough and almost always with foraged blackberries in the early autumn, but with whatever suitable fruit becomes available! There really is something magical about making jam, my Mum always made it so I just think it is natural. I have never made marmalade from scratch only from a tin but still worth it.
Hi Alison, I make sloe, blackberry and crab apple jelly, I collect a few each autumn walk, freeze and make a few jars when I have enough.
Your marmalade looked delicious Jane! Nothing like home made! I really need to save up for an Instant Pot too! Thank you.
Thanks Heather, people swear by lidl’s own version
The last winter (July to Aug) I made pink grapefruit marmalade for the first time. I love it and always bought some homemade from a shop, but can't find it anymore. I love It!
I've never heard of jam sugar before. We don't have anything like that.
This looks delicious!!! And easy!!
I'll make it when our oranges are not so expensive! This morning at the grocery 3.6 kilos of oranges was $9.48.
This is so interesting. In America, we use water bath canners to ensure all air has vented out of the jars! Our Department of Agriculture wrote procedures on how to home preserve low acid and high acid foods decades ago and I had no idea there was any other way!
Hot marmalade into a hot jar, tighten the lid. The cooling with cause a vacuum. You can hear the lids make a pop sound when you open them
Water bath canning classes in High School put me off canning for life. But when we made jam, we used sterile (boiled) glass jars and parafin wax poured on top and then boiled lids.
I don'tmake jam or jelly so this was so interesring to watch. Thank you for sharing.
You’re welcome and thanks for watching
I do make jam. I haven't made marmalade but always wanted to do so. I don't eat many sweets now, but I like the sweet tanginess of marmalade.
Thanks for watching
I could make jam but I don't. I don't eat much jam, maybe one jar per year. If I did it would be blackberry. 😋 I don't eat oranges or lemons or use there zest, they contain high oxalate along with many vegetables and nuts, especially almonds, so I avoid them.
Nice video this morning even if I don't make jam. Maybe I'll try to make a small amount of blackberry jam next summer. 😋
Thank you for making this video
You’re welcome
Homemade jam are the best!!!
Thanks for watching
Yes - I make jams and marmalade. I mix all sorts of fruit together to get the weight. Have taken to reducing the sugar and adding chia seeds. If it doesn't set fully I just freeze the jars. 😀 just watch that they don't get broken. Keep indefinitely!
Thanks very much for sharing
My that looks delicious. I'm in the USA, 67 and never seen jam sugar. Wish we had that here. We have to buy the sugar and pectin separate. I guess it's a European thing. Would love to have it. I love orange marmalade. Add a few big spoons in cake batter , it's wonderful. Blessings to all ❤
We made marmalade cake too
WOw, I have been making jams, etc all my life but I have never seen or even heard of sugar with pectin in it. That is so cool!! I don't think we have it in the U.S., though not sure why not. Makes so much sense. I tried to look it up online and it all led to sites in the UK. Your marmalade looks delicious, nice set, no fruit all floating all at the top. I'm sure it is yummy,. Thanks for the fun video
Cheers Rev, you’re welcome
I haven't seen preserving sugar in the states, but we have pectin in boxes and sugar. I want tho try this, since I got oranges in my "imperfect box" this last week.
That batch of jam would be retail about $50 USD for 8 jars. Well done. I've been canning for years and still eating the last batch of jam I made. I recently joined a UK Preserving group on Facebook to try different things. I absolutely love it. I'm in the US, but grew up on British/Newfoundland food as my mum was born in St. John's. I'm going to try this.
Thanks very much for watching and commenting
👍👍👍
I just make kumquat marmalade. So yummy . And try to make blood orange marmalade.
Yummy
Sounds great. I have never heard of jam sugar. Pectin is sold separately. I wonder how much of pectin needs to be in a regular sugar for this recipe. Thank you❤️
Sadly I don’t know Marta
@@marlythedinolol141 thanks for the feedback
I forgot to say i spread my marmalade on the bread for bread & butter pudding, it really helps the fruitiness. Tricia
Hello from Brooklyn NY. My question is what to use if jam sugar is not available? Usually I add 2-3 tablespoons of lemon juice when making jams. Would this work with marmalade? Love your channel!
You don't need pectin with marmalade, oranges have pectin
Looks so yummy love marmalade but unfortunately I'm not allowed to eat it anymore
Great recipe 👍
Oh no!
Do you notice any difference in taste compared to using Seville oranges? My Mum used to make jams and marmalades and pickled beetroot when I was younger. The fruit for jams grew in our garden so rhubarb, gooseberry, raspberry and blackcurrant were all staples. I haven’t made any jam since home economics in school when I made apple and ginger jam. You’ve inspired me plus I’ve got an instant pot that I don’t know what to be doing with. Watched all the ads. X
Thanks very much. I’ve always made it with cheap oranges as sevilles are uncommon here
I make lemon marmalade here in Spain.🥭My friend gives me organic lemons
Please let me know if I can make this marmalade with plain sugar (not preserving sugar?) Thank you.
Yes, add lemon juice too
I’ve never made marmalade, but it looks beautiful! I have made boatloads of plum and also peach jam when my dad had trees. Delicious!
Thanks for commenting
How long do you leave your jars in the oven?
I leave them in for 30 minutes whilst I make the jam.
@@FrugalQueeninFrance Thanks!
I'll occasionally make marmalade from two large chopped oranges cooked with 1/2 cup water for 15 minutes, add 1/2-1 cup sugar (to taste) and cook another 40 minutes. Cool it, jar it, and stick in fridge. It makes about one pint, so no need to water bath can it. I'm a terribly lazy cook.
I never put the jars of preserves in a water bath and boil it.
Always keep a bowl of ice cube water next to you while you fill the jars .
Good advice, jam splashes are very painful
That looks delicious! 😋 Thanks for showing how you make your orange marmalade.
I make jam and jelly but I’ve never made marmalade. I usually make jam from the fruit that I grow or buy on sale in season.
I typically make peach, cherry, raspberry, blackberry, strawberry and blueberry jam. I have a recipe for apple pie jam that I want to try when I harvest my apples this year.
I grow peaches, apples, cherries, raspberries, blackberries and strawberries in my yard.
I also grow a lot of my own vegetables during the year as well.
I haven’t tried the mock apple pie filling that is made with zucchini and apple pie spices or mock pineapple that you substitute zucchini in place of the fruit and use pineapple juice to flavor the zucchini with. It’s supposed to be just as tasty as the real real fruit and people cannot tell that either are made with zucchini instead of apples or pineapple.
I have 6 pounds of oranges that I bought on sale recently. I might have to try making marmalade out of them. It sure would be a tasty way to get my vitamin C instead of from a pill. 😏
Good luck Patrice and thanks for your support
