Last week, on the Hill of Allen, the ancestral home of the Fianna, the soldiers of the Army Ranger Wing’s Special Operations Force Qualification Course received their much-coveted Green Berets. A proud day for the soldiers and their dedicated instructors.
The hill is situated at the easternmost point of the Bog of Allen and it is from this hill that the bog gets its name. According to legend, Fionn mac Cumhaill had a fortress on the hill and used the surrounding flatlands as training grounds for his warriors. In 722 A.D. the Battle of Allen was fought between the Leinstermen (Laigin), led by Murchad mac Brain Mut (King of Leinster), and the forces of Fergal mac Máele Dúin (High King of Ireland) in close proximity to the hill.
And roadstone have half of the hill gone 😢😢 it's a disgrace 😢

You ever train with the irish rangers?I heard they do go to the US to train with the US rangers?I have huge respect for you guys 👏
@@bingobrennan3937 I have heard they do, as well, but I never got the chance. I did get to go on a training mission in Scotland with 3 Para in the 90s, however.

@@tommyoconnor355 just over a year for me, good luck! i was told to have a backup plan for when you leave the army, its always a good idea as not many stay for longer than the minimum required years.

Proud to be in Ireland or the Irish Ranger Wing? No lady in the history of the State has ever been successful in her attempt to join it. But, there is always one who breaks the mould. The best of luck young lady if that is indeed your intentions.
Ceremony at the Hill of Allen. A meeting place for the ancient Fianna. It's a pity half the hill has disappeared due quarrying by Roadstone courtesy of Kildare Co Council giving them planning permission
Should never have been allowed, Hill of Allen is steeped in mythology and should have been preserved.
Congrats to all who passed selection, met a number of these guys when I was in the Army Reserve in the 1980's great bunch of guys, professional and dedicated.

We should encourage every young man in the country to do a year's military training, like Finland.

Na they're still using the multicam uniform the rangers have been using for a while
More specifically its the crye g3 combats, they started using it whilst deploying to Mali
