    Would love a series of advanced dogfighting tutorials/walkthroughs. I mean beyond explaining concepts of 1c and 2c, but like lift vector placement, how to advantageously manipulate an offset 2 circle, etc etc. Love the channel, each video is genuinely thrilling and very entertaining:)

    The merge is clearly the most important factor in how these fights go. Every time you didn't stick close and maneuver with your bandit as well as you could, it created too much separation. Every time you won, you read and reacted to his movement much better.

    The F-16 may be old, but the Hornet design goes back to the YF-17 that competed with it in the lightweight fighter program. Granted, the YF-17 seems to be the first production-intended fighter that optimized intentionally for instantaneous turn rate, but the F-18 was there at the beginning, even if it was retooled for naval squadrons and refined to introduce later.

    • @alcatraz0643

      YF16 and YF17 were in competition where airforce chosed f16 and navy f18 mostly because of landing gear and 2 engines in case of failure, oh and range too.

    .
    .
    .
    .
    Ok. Call me crazy, but for example in fight #2, the Hornet spat out some flares just as you fired. The 9X at first seemed to bite off just a little bit, but then turned back onto the rear of the Hornet which was still flaring. The combination of burner and flares seemed to draw the seeker's attention. Is it possible that the Hornet pilot shot off too many flares? If he had loosed just two or three then cut the burners at that instant, I wonder if your 9X would have continued to bite off on those first ones and left him alone?

    What does it mean to "lose lift vector placement"? I've been here for a while, and I've heard the term before, but it's never been so prevalent as in this video.

    • @jakedewey3686
      @jakedewey3686 6 місяців тому +2

      The lift vector of your plane is the direction that lift is acting on the plane; basically imagine an arrow pointing straight up out of the top of the canopy. If you want to keep tight on your opponent in a one circle fight you want to point that arrow directly at their aircraft because it minimizes the distance the nose of your plane has to move to keep them in that position. The hornet "loses lift vector placement" when it fails to keep the viper in that overhead position, which both creates separation and reduces the ability to get the nose onto the target. Together these mean that the viper was able to get into a position to the rear of the hornet and that the hornet was within the WEZ of the aim9x.

    • @jakedewey3686
      @jakedewey3686 6 місяців тому

      Imagine you're in a static position in the sky and the hornet is 1 mile in front of you, flying perpendicular to you. If the hornet's lift vector is pointed up and the pull hard, it'll do a vertical loop in front of you. No matter what, at the top of the loop it's further away from you than where it started, and in that orientation no matter how hard it pulls it will never be able to put its nose on you.
      Now imagine the hornet's in the same position but its lift vector is pointed towards you. From here when it pulls it'll either put its nose directly onto you or it will fly in a circle around you, with its distance from you dependent solely on how hard it pulls. It has a lot more control over the distance and is able to actually be a threat to you.

    could you do a "tech tree superiority dogfight" kind of series wherin you dogfight aircraft of the same country/faction and determine its best aircraft ?

    (Kind of like bandit unknown but different)

    • @Jinmarui
      @Jinmarui 6 місяців тому +1

      The problem with this idea is that (at least on the American side) the F-15, F/A-18 and F-16 were each designed for different roles. If flown with equal pilots, which one wins would be decided by starting range, and whether it's BVR/fox-2/guns-only.
      I would be curious to see the Russian side but the Su27 will probably lose in every situation and the real fight will be between the 30 and 35.

    Why are you getting a radar lock with the 9x? If you go into the SMS and change the 9x from bore to slave it’s then slaved to the JHMCS in DGFT mode. Then it’s just look at the target, listen for the tone, and weapons release. Much faster than getting a radar lock and uncageing the sensor.

    How come you haven't got guns pointing backwards to destroy any aircraft on your tail, nor guns pointing sideways to destroy attackers on your flanks? How come you've only ever got fixed guns pointing forwards?
    Sorry this is a bit long but I wanted to try to explain my mystification about this because to me it seems obvious that all fighter aircraft should have those things, and there's got to be a reason why they haven't. 🙂

      @Mike_Romeo 6 місяців тому

      No it wouldnt. The F/A-18 can slow down incredible fast with it aoa capabilities and the low drag F-16 would heavily overshoot the F/A-18 in the vertical making it a easy target for the F-18 and slow speed maneuverability. The F-16 also hates to be slow making it very disadvantageous in the vertical.

      The lift vector is an imaginary line extending outward from the canopy and perpendicular to the
      aircraft's wingspan. This line is simply a tool used to describe the plane in which
      an aircraft is turning. During an engagement, the tactical placement of the aircraft's lift vector is
      essential to achieving an advantageous position on the enemy. When a maneuvering fighter is
      unable (due to position, energy state, or nose authority) to gain a positional advantage with
      aircraft nose placement, the lift vector may be utilized. A defensive, neutral, or offensive fighter
      can lead or lag a bogey with its lift vector. The lift vector can be manipulated to gain an
      offensive (or improve a defensive) position. Once offensive, the fighter will need to transition to
      pulling lead with the nose to obtain a valid guns solution.

    Interesting to see F16 no pylons, 2 wingtip 9x vs F18 with pylons, 2 wingtip 9x. Should be like for like?
