This is important! The book, "The Gift of Words: How do children learn to talk," by Talmage Steele has 12 conversation starters for parents to employ to add more language to the things they already do with their children age 0-5. It doesn't take more time, it takes more words. A big vocabulary helps a child succeed in school, at work, in life. Schools depend on parents to teach children to talk and to have a big vocabulary when they arrive at school.

I didn’t start learning English until 11 years old and it was fine. Speak fluently now.

However, it's highly unlikely that you speak (that language) well enough to not be immediately recognized by a native speaker that you are not a native speaker of English. Her point is that early exposure fine-tunes the brain, hearing, and speaking abilities to a degree that can never be reproduced by non-native speaker.
In other words, this explains why a Japanese person cannot produce the English R or L sound because their brain literally does not hear the sound distinctly because their brain adapted to a language where the English R and L sounds don't matter

Now it all makes sense. I was born in august so I was the youngest of my grade and I did day care too so that’s why I learned both English and Spanish so easily growing up.

Very interesting. I'm Italian and I've been talking in English to my little nephew since he was a newborn...In the beginning I used to sing some songs or just talk to him even though apparently he didn't pay attention sometimes....Now he is almost 3 yo and he says something in English every now and then and above all he follows me. I don't consider myself like a teacher because his brain does it all...And it blows my mind, because when we talk to our babies in our own language we take it for granted...but when we do in our second language you notice it more. I'm not a native English speaker, I'm an advanced speaker so I make some mistakes every now and then but it works anyway I think

Alright, it all sounds good and makes a great sense, BUT. Here's my example. Till the age of 5 the only language I've experienced was Russian. Some English then. Then a bit of German. And only being 18 y.o., I've started learning languages seriously. Armenian, Spanish, Turkish, French, Hebrew. All those I had taken like in two years. So today I speak 9 languages, with 5 of them I work on a daily basis as a tutor and an interpreter. Important to mention that being abroad and speaking to natives they get very surprised knowing I'm not local and came from Russia which means pronunciation is pretty okay. How can we explain that? Genetics? Musical talents? I do adore languages, compose some music and my grandpa used to speak 7 languages. Is it the reason?

This is interesting to me considering I'm trying to learn another language on top of English, that language being Korean. I'm 15 which is quite a large gap from being a baby I would say. And I was curious about how I picked up learning a language at such a young age and if there was a similar way to learn as I did when I was younger, but this time with a more developed brain for a second language.
'm really hoping this is phrased in a way that makes the most sense for what I'm wondering.

Hi, thank you for the information, I would like to ask something.
You said that the language should be taught for a native speaker of the language. In our case, we are from Colombia and we have a baby, I speak to my daughter in English which is my second language and my husband in Spanish. Isn't it suitable?

Wey Ouno native language is very important, I learned English watching “friends”. My father only taught me ABC the rest I picked up from tv. I am not saying sit the baby in front of the tv. Teach her what you know as she gets older it’s a great opportunity for you to both learn English together by speaking to her. Once she develops enough I am sure you both will have learned enough to have a conversation.

I used to think that language sits in the brain, but now I doubt. A young girl gets born in 2018 and says she was in the US in her past life. She's never been to school so far. What really surprised me is her American accent. Nobody in her family speaks English like her.
