In Sweden, they've had a carbon tax for over 30 years, and data shows that tax has reduced carbon emissions. Sweden also has a 10% lower cost of living than Canada does and their rental rates are 37% lower. This is proof it's not carbon tax making things expensive. It's other global factors such as instability in the middle east, instability in Ukraine caused by Russia, Ukraine's grain market is extremely unstable because of the war and Russia's constant attacks on grain silos and producers, causing increased prices of baked goods, grains, cereals globally. Climate change is also the largest contributor to price increases, extreme weather has been destroying crops which affect prices. Canadians aren't afraid to fight, even if it means we all pay a self sacrifice penalty. Rational minds will have a reciprocal tariff plan set to go on day 2. As far as illegal immigration, expect another spike of people leaving the US to escape deportation, so complaints about illegal immigrants and drugs from Canada are hot air. The US want Canada to fall in line with Chinese tariffs, and a case could be made for that. And increased defense spending to reach the 2% goal would be easy enough if we were to make another ice breaker ship, and show more ownership of our northern borders.
More terrorists (way more) have been caught crossing the Canadian border than the Mexican. It's not hot air. Canada has become an existential threat to the US.
It's not as simple as you think. No country is entirely self sufficient. Foreign Trade is incredibly important and every person around the world takes it for granted.

We all lose. But hey, you got to think sweaty orange man was doing it with your best interests in mind, right? Make believe is fun.
There is no migrant problem on the northern border, the real goal of this tariff is to reduce the energy imports from Canada to save money, the U.S has plenty of them, so this is a done deal, I think the Canadian dollar will also have a long fall in the coming weeks, just fasten the seatbelt
I propose a 30% Tariffs on the US, while simultaneously lowering or getting rid of any and all tariffs with Europe and Asian countries (excluding Russia).

25% tariff and carbon tax increase in the new year were toast as canadians...
What are you babbling about
Carbon tax has little impact on much of anything. There is actually no evidence showing carbon tax increases grocery prices either. And the majority of Canadians get way more in carbon rebates then we pay in the carbon tax.

Canada has become an existential threat to the US.
start making things in Canada then???
