The lugs you cut off the ARB bull bar are for uhf antenna's. They clashed with your front grille because the bull bar is made for 100 series Landcruisers that the grille is fixed to the car and not hanging off the hood. The reason your factory antenna is in the way of that Aussie made snorkel is because its made for right hand drive. The factory antenna's are on the left on Aussie 100 and 105 series Toyota's.
True, apart from the fact that he also has 4 damaged corners to repair on his new one. I feel like having a body shop repair the hole would have been less than the price of the hatch he bought. I just can't see why he did what he did haha.
Ralph Hardwick some metalwork or even bondo could've fixed that.. he's got the 💰 with the TV show & all, but man, isn't the joy in fixing cheap things for even cheaper...
they do...those looked like supplementary supports to the body. If you look earlier in the video, there are brackets that extend out perpendicular from the sliders with rectangular plates on the end.
these bolt right to the frame but I will say this: these are more for cosmetic purposes than actual support. No way they can support the weight of the vehicle.....
with that amount of miles they're bound to be at the end of their service life. Watch how he gets everything fixed on it and it loses oil pressure and spins a rod bearing
It's a 1UZ isn't it? Barely broken in at 350,000 miles provided it's been at least semi-regularly serviced - plenty around have done twice or more than that and are still running well with good compression.
Forget about that snorkel, they don't work. In addition, you don't want a hole in the side of your fender for a snorkel that doesn't work. Also, you'll never drive through water that high. If you ever run into water that high, don't go in...
Hoovie, anyone complaining about you not doing your own mechanical work is just a fool. While I do have an appreciation for those who do their own work, and I tend to do my own as well, there is a large contingent of people out there who don't know how and probably shouldn't attempt it even with in depth youtube videos telling them how. You are the voice for the car enthusiasts who aught to take their vehicles to talented mechanics, and are showing them what is possible and being honest about what its going to cost them. Keep it up, you provide some great and entertaining content.
I think it would have been budget-wisely to cut off the rusted area of the hatch and weld a piece of metal (a non-rust alloy), sand it down and then paint that part only with colour matching paint. Then you could have polished all the rear hatch to make the paint have a uniform tone across all the rear door. Probably would have costed no more than $250 (plus the effort).
So you think itd be cheaper to have someone TIG weld stainless to that mild steel hatch, then have all the bodywork done which would include grinding(better hope it doesnt warp), then sanding, painting, clearing, buffing etc and you think that wpuld cost less than $250?
+JackstandJohnny Not that meticulously to have a perfect result as a good as in a bodyshop, just a kind of DIY job (plus welding), using a scrapped piece of steel and painting that part with a spray can
My god this was a fucking mess haha, bull bar doesn't fit, snorkel doesn't fit, rock sliders broke, rear hatch arrived completely destroyed.... literally nothing went right haha.
Snorkels aren't useless, actually it will help the rig breathe better, remember that the original air intake is hidden behind the front fender, at this point it's working more as suction since there is not much air flowing inside the fender, adding a snorkel allows the engine to take in more air and have a better performance, besides the fact that for crossing deep water will avoid water getting inside the engine. And remember that you have to un-install the antenna before fitting the snorkel (safari snorkels have installation templates used to know where everything goes) and then reinstall the antenna. Hope this is helpful. Cheers.
The reality of Car Guy dreams are fraught with disappointment and setback. Once again I’m glad it’s your money and not mine. And still you soldier on. Luv it
The old tailgate is better than new. Repairing the hole is easy if you access to a welder and angle grinder. The sliders should bolt to the chassis or reinforced brackets. Another great video guys.👍
This is one of your builds I'm looking most forward too! Would recommend swapping metal winch line for synthetic rope line so no one gets hurt. Would also pickup a snatch block to run with that 9500lb winch just because the Lex is heavy and you may need the extra power. Lookin' great so far.
Seriously Tyler this is my favorite series. Any time spent with the wizard is worth watching. And dont worry about Doug not liking sliders hes from philly, nobody likes him.
Mate hang onto the handle and latch mechanism from the rusty rear hatch. They are notorious for breaking and expensive. Well at least here in Australia they are expensive.
Betting that there’s a difference between the LC and LX mounting points for the front bumper. My best guess is that the frame rails are a bit shorter to accommodate for the night vision system that the LXs had. The ARB bumper for my ‘02 4runner was designed for the Tacoma, which is why the end caps of my frame rails had to be cut off and adapters bolted in for it to fit. A big clue is the clearance issue with the light tabs that had to be ground off. I’m guessing the bumper install calls for some light frame modification.
This is how we fixed our chevy suburban when my dad backed into a pole (only 3' high) with the rear tailgate down. Cut a square hole in the rear gate, hammer/pull everything out, then weld the hole back on to patch the hole (which was on the inside of the car, luckily.)
Since it can catch air, cover all types of terrain, and soon to be going over water with your intake you're about to install. You should call it the LAS Cruiser. Land Air Sea. Idk.. Anyway, looking great so far. Can't wait to see what it looks and runs like when it's all done.
Hey hoovies, I have the same 2002 Hooptie UZJ100 with a case of the midwest rust and ha, doing exactly what you're doing but baseline first then expedition mods. Best of luck, you should do al fluids, heater Ts, water pump, timing belt, spark plugs, and you're set to go do Ouray and tour all of North America.
my 2 cents; Slider goes onto the frame, or at least between body and frame where it fits good, it should slide over rocks no problem if done properly. Top holes on bumper is for fog lights/ light bar. useful offroad, keep them. Hatch was expensive, probably should have kept the last one. See if you can return it
You're listening to am 860, all smooth Hoovie Jazz, all the time. Coming up next while Tyler's taking the rear hatch off, will be playing a smooth jazz ensemble from Floyd Barry.
My automotive heart hurts after watching you take that repareble hatch! The new one is more f up than the old! Please send this beauty to the Netherlands so i can take good care of her!
Dude you paid 700$ for that hatch!!? If it was mint condition that would still be double, but that hatch is NOT usable on a road worthy land cruiser, its dented on every side!
Ya, thats because its from a Land Cruiser/Lexus. They didn't make very many of these things when compared to Suburbans Tahoes and Expeditions so thats why its kind of expensive even for used parts.
Gotta love ARB Bullbars only the finest Australian made bullbars will do for Hoovie, As for the brackets on top the difference is the Land Cruisers have the grille permanently mounted seperate from the Bonnet so those brackets normally wouldn’t foul on a land cruiser. Compare that to the Lexus which has the grille mounted on the bonnet which is why the grille fouls on the brackets. As friends of mine had a land cruiser 100 series in the same sort of body style think it was a 2004 model until they upgraded to the 2016 model and the bonnet and grille were seperate.
What brand are sliders? They don’t look like they would take the weight of the vehicle. Got to do ACH or sit it AHC that they do on the 100 series LC. And some lockers.
I just wanna take a moment and give a shoutout to the carwizard.. he's always humble and willing to help you out on your YT projects.. The guy deserves some credits!!!
Wow I got a steal on my 03 ls430. 3500$ and the timing belt was changed at 122k; 131k on the clock. Ultra luxury package so highest trim level and the air shocks have already been converted to coil overs. I have had to do a few repairs but nothing expensive. Very nice riding car and my only issues are that the rear subwoofer needs to be replaced but I'm adding two type r 8 inch subs in a fourth order with aero port going through the rear deck on an Alpine mrd300. Should sound much better than stock. Also wiring in my two Northstar agm80s which should assist with the cars electronics.
You should have the Wizard wave his wizardry hands and make Hoovie fade away, Now that would be a superb ending so long as his Wizardship can bring Hoovie back.
i just bought a lx470 with 240k miles for 3500. need the continuation of the build. what ome setup do you have. im thinking going for the slee kit but i want it comfy as my ride seems to be bouncing around all over. the ahc isnt working correctly sometimes it lifts sometimes it doesnt.
Sliders are not supposed to be mounted with bolts and screws. That is why it ripped off from the body as soon you steeped on it. You need to weld it to the frame and leave a considerable space from the body so in case of extreme force is apply on a single section of the slider it wont damage the body. That is the main porpoise of the sliders. Also looks like you got a snorkel for a Toyota instead a Lexus, that is why you have the antenna on the way.
What is going to happen with the rock sliders? Do you have to fix the frame - weld a bar or something? If you can jump on the sliders and it strips out the mounting holes, then clearly they were not mounted in a strong enough place.
Would've been cheaper, faster and easier to fix the old tailgate
Lol, I didn't see your comment until I wrote something like that
That was my thought lol
Cut a piece out of the new one to scale to this maniacs 😂
I agree. Cut a hole and fill with new metal
Yes, but Hoovie does things the illogical way.
I bought a replacement hatch for $80 that was in better shape than that. It would have been way easier and cheaper to just repair the hole.
broncokonco Or a sticker. !!!
Not easier but surely far cheaper. Cutting, welding and painting would surely take more than the 15 minutes it took to swap the hatch.
True, apart from the fact that he also has 4 damaged corners to repair on his new one. I feel like having a body shop repair the hole would have been less than the price of the hatch he bought. I just can't see why he did what he did haha.
@@broncokonco I don't think he knew the corners were messed up or at least not that bad. Maybe it was damaged in shipping
"Depends on the quirks and features he has that day"
LMAO!
I guess the wizard is an excellent barbecue chef as well
Sorry dude I didn’t see you had posted that. That was great. He’s also a Wizard of humor. He needs his own Doug score.
Lmao shots fired
Ok then I wanna see Doug's Wizardscore.
😂😂😂😂😂
i live for the awkward moments between hoovie and the people around him
Who the hell did you voluntarily give $700 for that 20 year old junk panel, even if it was mint condition. Poor move Hoovie. Good video tho..
I imagine someone who couldn't find a better deal?
Ralph Hardwick some metalwork or even bondo could've fixed that.. he's got the 💰 with the TV show & all, but man, isn't the joy in fixing cheap things for even cheaper...
Some stuff just isn't worth repairing. In a rear end collision I don't want bondo to be the impact zone.
Ralph Hardwick metalwork then...
The wizard must make some serious coin off you!
he earns every penny. lol
The hood doesn’t close because the bullbar is made for a landcruiser , the landcruiser hood opens alone with out the grill not like the lexus hood 😁
Lol I was about to say that.
700 bucks for that hatch?!?!?! Hoovie you crazy man!
Hope they shipped it insured. All that shipping damage. All that for a tiny hole. Should just welded in a little piece of metal.
TitanSilver354 good for quick getaways!
I could get like 3 used cars here for the price of that hatch. And the hatch there is broken!
If Hoovie does all the work we wouldn’t get the car wizard. F That, more car wizard!
VinWiki should get you on to their channel
JP B lol I just imagine it'd be something like, "I got into an argument with my talking car, so I buried it."
I wonder of Tyler is a shrewd negotiator...
This guy doesn’t seem like a good storyteller
Shouldnt sliders bolt to the frame??
they do...those looked like supplementary supports to the body. If you look earlier in the video, there are brackets that extend out perpendicular from the sliders with rectangular plates on the end.
Muskoka Mike My 4r sliders go straight to a frame bracket. Seems like an easy rip first big hit you get.
these bolt right to the frame but I will say this: these are more for cosmetic purposes than actual support. No way they can support the weight of the vehicle.....
Ryan Martinage they did but also to the sheet metal
Those sliders look pretty wimpy... U Bolt to frame rails or weld on... I don't what the hell those bolts are on the body - That's just terrible.
You should send the oil away to be investigated for the Quirks and Features of a 350,000 mile Lexus
with that amount of miles they're bound to be at the end of their service life. Watch how he gets everything fixed on it and it loses oil pressure and spins a rod bearing

Okay after the Wizard blasted himself with sparks and the close ups on his face, he just reminds me of Bubbles from TPB now.
I can totally see this
PLEASE PLEASE.......PLEASE, never stop putting the lounge/Jazz music and info about the show in your video’s, absolutely love it 😃👏
nix that crap and lets hear some techno trance.
Forget about that snorkel, they don't work. In addition, you don't want a hole in the side of your fender for a snorkel that doesn't work. Also, you'll never drive through water that high. If you ever run into water that high, don't go in...

Thank God you posted, I was starting to get withdrawals
700? Those people ripped you off man
What’s next HEY GUYS I BROKE A OLD VOLVO WAGON, like i didn’t actually think you could break one of these things ha ha
Colin Harrison
It's no longer funny now rather see one car at a time worked on and finished.
If it was a normal car I would agree but a land cruiser! Like literally they hang with Nokias and Volvos in the never breaks department
Colin Harrison
I think he was one of those kids who stuck a fork in a plug socket to see what happens, and pulled the wings off insects.
Colin Harrison hey now I pulled wings off on insects an put them in fire ant beds ... ants have to eat too lol
I think Ima go nylon on winch next time
this feels the most genuine car channel on youtube, everything seems to go wrong, just like in real life
by far the best car channel on youtube.

I laughed my ass off when the wizard said “depends on what quirks and features he has that day”
You gave your land cruiser a pair of glasses, nice
My god this was a fucking mess haha, bull bar doesn't fit, snorkel doesn't fit, rock sliders broke, rear hatch arrived completely destroyed.... literally nothing went right haha.
Thanks Sir for another amazing video. Can't wait for your TV show !! Btw. Where is Tavarish...whole week not a single clip.. :(
I believe he is taking a break. He said he would return sometime later this week, if I'm not mistaken.
Camorra 1986 it takes him a month to turn a wrench soo
Tavarish is in Tavares taking some time off and sleeping. 😁
He is wrenching every several days lol
Watch his videos man, he is human too he takes about taking a break
Hoovie at times you sound like a modern-day Don Knotts.
Stephen Overstreet imagine...this might make me a national hero!
I like how Tavarish got Hoovie and Stradman to start working on their cars and then immediately disappeared lolz
My father put the same bumper on his grand Cherokee years ago then he cut out some fog lights, I approve hoovie!

Channelling "Brophy" from the movie High Anxiety, carrying that tailgate. "I got it, I got it, I ain't got it!"
i don't understand, that's just a simple hole why can't you just patch it with a piece of sheet metal?
Anas Takiyudin I live in Africa labour is cheap. Perhaps parts are cheaper and integraty is better on original
You should paint it with rhino liner or whatever that bed liner is.
The old tailgate is better than new. Repairing the hole is easy if you access to a welder and angle grinder. The sliders should bolt to the chassis or reinforced brackets. Another great video guys.👍
Last time I was this early the Bentley didn't have the odometer rolled back
Zing!
Dilan Parmar I had to assert my dominance as the alpha UA-camr and then think of something clever later 😂
This is one of your builds I'm looking most forward too! Would recommend swapping metal winch line for synthetic rope line so no one gets hurt. Would also pickup a snatch block to run with that 9500lb winch just because the Lex is heavy and you may need the extra power. Lookin' great so far.
Hoovie today: “Whatever this horrible DeVille is... oh boy, what a mess.”
Hoovie next week: “I just bought a $500 DeVille...”
Seriously Tyler this is my favorite series. Any time spent with the wizard is worth watching. And dont worry about Doug not liking sliders hes from philly, nobody likes him.
I love the way the it looks lifted
Just wow at that hatch! My local junker has two lx470's, one I know has a decent hatch. Couldnt you have found better where youre at?
Doc Holidaze he probably could have repared his hatch for $1k. What company runs your local place? (Always looking for good parts yards)
LX470's are rarer than hen's teeth in my area of Kansas, idk about down around Wichita. I've seen maybe two in my entire life.
They're pretty common here in Wichita. Surprised he had a hard time finding one.
So I'm guessing we can assume you'll eventually post so ridiculous off roading videos when you have this project "completed".
Looking great! Love it! You will really enjoy that Lexus off road capabilities. Great job Tyler!
Mate hang onto the handle and latch mechanism from the rusty rear hatch. They are notorious for breaking and expensive. Well at least here in Australia they are expensive.

The rear hatch cut out rust weld in patch
This is how we fixed our chevy suburban when my dad backed into a pole (only 3' high) with the rear tailgate down. Cut a square hole in the rear gate, hammer/pull everything out, then weld the hole back on to patch the hole (which was on the inside of the car, luckily.)

Weld the sliders to the body seam. Make it super strong but will transfer frame vibrations to the cab much easier
“Depends what quirks and features he has that day” 😂
Hey there, waiting your next video to see how this beast looked like after all the upgrades. Can’t wait!!!
Definitely like seeing you in the shop with the wizard. There's nothing cool about " Well, dropping the car off" and then picking it up.
I have a 2000 Land Cruiser. The grill is NOT attached to the hood like the Lexus. The power antenna is exactly the same. Nice vid!
4:00 "And loses bolts, FAATENERS, and tools along the way" I found a typo... unfortunately it's too late to fix it now 😅
Those tabs your grinded off the bumper are antenna mounts. You can also use them to mount a flag if you were to be in the dunes.
I hope you’re paying the wizard well, because I think he wants to murder you. The paycheck may be the only thing keeping him from doing so.
That GOLD lettering is just priceless, real Rick Ross image :D
Everyone needs a friend like the car wizard in their life
my 2 cents;
Slider goes onto the frame, or at least between body and frame where it fits good, it should slide over rocks no problem if done properly.
Top holes on bumper is for fog lights/ light bar. useful offroad, keep them.
Hatch was expensive, probably should have kept the last one. See if you can return it
Fart at 7:12 lol
Glad I'm not the only one that heard that.
Juicy at that. Someone might have just sharted themselves.
He made that noise with his mouth as like, oh damn that doesn't fit. Fake news!!!
It was fake one
😂🤣😂🤣 man you nailed it
This is a classically awesome channel Hoovie, dont change the way you make these when you go hollywood! :)
5:49 it's For a Antenna Made For Land Cruiser Which The Hood Doesn't open with the Grill
Man, your timelapse-tunes would make a perfect old school GranTurismo menu screen theme!
You're listening to am 860, all smooth Hoovie Jazz, all the time. Coming up next while Tyler's taking the rear hatch off, will be playing a smooth jazz ensemble from Floyd Barry.
Looks good. Ready to see this thing in action!
It's amazing how optimistic the car wizard is about hoovie's abilities.
That contrasting black color looks great. Maybe you could paint the whole lower part of vehicle black?
“It depends on what corks and features he has that day” I AM DEADSDDDD 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I can’t wait to see this when it’s done completely! It’ll be so bad ass!
And honestly the tiny whole was less damage than the new hatch
All the damage to that hatch was from shipping, it used to be mint... But yeah, he WAY overpaid!
Ya, thats because its from a Land Cruiser/Lexus. They didn't make very many of these things when compared to Suburbans Tahoes and Expeditions so thats why its kind of expensive even for used parts.
HOOVIE YOU’RE THE GREATEST!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Man does the Wizard have a youtube cause he is really good at explaining what he does

PLEASE! Help save the Wizzerd's teeth and get him a headlamp. GoFundMe here:

If hes an ASE mechanic im sure CAN afford a headlight

I love your videos and enjoy your purchases. We all wish we had a good trusted mechanic like the Wizard nearby. Good luck on the TV series. jeff
Thanks for providing a link to the chillest flute music I've ever heard.

Was the rock slider/running board install onto the frame rail or just the sheet metal?
The build is looking great by the way.
Sliders are not supposed to be mounted with bolts and screws. That is why it ripped off from the body as soon you steeped on it. You need to weld it to the frame and leave a considerable space from the body so in case of extreme force is apply on a single section of the slider it wont damage the body. Give your Bentley a snorkel
What is going to happen with the rock sliders? Do you have to fix the frame - weld a bar or something? If you can jump on the sliders and it strips out the mounting holes, then clearly they were not mounted in a strong enough place.
Thats a good looking land cruiser build!
Quirks and features! Way to go Wizard.
love the irony of you calling another car a mess.
Nice vid hoovie like this project a lot
I am curious why you didn't cut the damage out of the hatch and weld in a patch from the donor? Paint and blend right on the rear door.
Where’d you find the hatch? I’ve been looking for a passenger door for two years and those damn things apparently don’t exist
The wizards “quirks and features” comment was gold
