Should You Upgrade Your Camera?

- The question I receive the most.. "Should I upgrade my camera/lens?" Today we talk about if you should look to upgrade your gear or if you should stick with what you got. I feel we all suffer from gear lust one way or another and it's important to remind ourselves on what we actually need versus what we want.

I think your video makes a lot of sense. I’ve been rocking out a used $350 Lumix GX85 for a year now, and I’ve produced close to 20 videos in the past twelve months including school events, concerts, promotional videos, an art exhibition, and even a wedding ceremony. I’ve been telling myself that I don’t need anything newer and should wait out longer before upgrading because camera prices will always fall, but lately during this quarantine, I’ve really wanted to get into talking head videos of myself, but the lack of a flippy screen has made it really difficult since I don’t have an external monitor. Thinking of upgrading to a Lumix G9 for that, but it’s been really difficult because I’m stuck between a purchase that can boost my productivity but costs a lot and just holding on to my cash and waiting for the prices to fall further.
Put some perspective to this, remember that Professionals used EOS-D1 for their corporate work "back in the days" and shot fantastic images.
The list-price on release was a massive 6500 Eur and the resolution was a meagre 4 MegaPixel only but still fantastic photos. Then also consider ... some of the best + most historical images we seen (pre-digital) was taken using a camera that literally was a box with a piece of glass in the front and no technology at all. Still they are fantastic photos lasting up to today.
Now we have people buying gear that is more powerful than the computer that took humanity to the moon... AND it also cost as much as a second-hand car.
Still we often see generic photos that could have been taken with any consumer camera.
We don't need better gear, we need better photographers.
Please do a video on tricks to use less lights but still have good lighting (at a good price)
Love your vid. Its a really refreshing mindset to hear on UA-cam. Im still running with my first DSLR the Nikon D3300. why the divide from others based only on gear? lets just shoot some beautiful footage and not look down on others based on their gear. keep it up bro Subscribed!
Gear doesn’t make you. You’re creativity brings out the best with what you have
Well said 🤘🏻
Have to be honest, i really did badly in the Iphone or DSLR game xD
Was surprised to see what you can do on phones!
I personally use Sony a6000 and have no plans of upgrading right now cause its a really great Camera even tho i payed no more than 350$
Haha thanks for playing! A6000 is an awesome camera that doesn’t get enough credit
You need to do a Canon 5d mark ii, in 2020
Was honestly thinking about it so I just might
Do it. And maybe compare with the 5DC
