The night soaps were making a comeback at one time, but now it seems like they are going away again. I loved the 80s prime time soaps! Those were the good days!
These nasty bitchy scene must have been so hilarious for Joan and Diahann since they absolutely loved each other in real life. I can only imagine how devastated Joan must be to have lost such a lifelong friend.
These clips never get old. But seeing them now pales in comparison to seeing them in context. Dynasty had the nation and the world in a chokehold and you HAD to be there to experience it. Do yourselves a favor and look up the clip of Dominique’s arrival in Denver. I have NEVER seen an entrance like that! Classic.
I totally agree with you, the music in the older shows was very compelling and is lost today. Also, together with the music cues, they used long shots without dialogue where the actors had to emote using body language and facial expressions and truly ACT !!
Talk about class.these two are great.the lunch and table set up is so elegant.i love when Dominique starts to choke.Alexis:yes i'd choke on his name too.Dominique: thats like asking me if i'd rather be clawed by a lion or bitten by a cobra either way if im not careful i could be dead( with the ending scene music ).the lines, oh the lines.so.poetic.what wonderful writers they had...ahhh, the good ole days!!!!
Lawd, the tuberculosis c-storyline! SMH. Dominique came to Denver on FIYAH until they stopped all that momentum and threw a bucket of cold water on her. These writers truly didn't know how to write for her and made her into a saloon singah.
Such fun, decadent escapism here; Dynasty gave us a yummy little taste of the good life. Love the fashions, hair, food, and also the friction between these two fierce characters. I think I watched every episode in its initial run-- well, at least the first few seasons. Wednesday nights were always a good time in my high school and college years. 😄
While they are having their conversation, I am Like….OH MY GOD ARE THOSE STAR FIRE LILLIES?!?!?!!! Elegance and Class. FANTASTIC bouquet 💐 LET US GIVE THE FLOWER ARRANGEMENT A PEARL NECKLACE!!!! The Flowers are not Burned unlike the Champagne lol.
People also don't realize that Joan and Diane Carroll have been friends since the late 50s both of them were stunning a buffing with badass asking them b****** could act on anything
That skin tone, that make-up, that glamour, even the voice and accent... unless you are handicapped or maimed by prejudices, you should acknowledge Deveraux is like a further improved version of Morell Carrington Colby Dexter... Rowan.
Gabriel García Marquez said in one of his books (Love in the times of cholera) that rich people made these rituals (dinners, social events, etc) as a way to distract themselves from killing each other. After watching a few short clips of Dynasty I can't agree more.
This scene was so contrived and enunciated with very strong plosives and throat like quality. The timing and gesticulations were played to the hilt by both of these soap divas. The faux world domination was absurd yet incredibly compelling. In fact all of these types of scenes were played like a Bond film. It’s a shame Linda Evans never got the fact that she wasn’t playing in a Western. Which I suspect was the original idea with the working title first named “Oil”. This show was far more dangerous. And very camp.
I love how all of these people who clearly hated each other kept hanging out together. I mean, you don’t see me hanging out with my family and friends….
@@DeepScreenAnalysis yes true because they were both CBS shows and that was more realistic but initial conversations were with Dynasty and Dallas but networks ABC and CBS wouldn't agree to it
It's like watching a master class in acting. Wow have I missed this. Modern television shows/ webisodes are losing that elegance and nuisance of the English language. But I'm sure it will make it way back again and we'll get to savor it once more.
People under estimate how good the '80s really were. We didn't have the internet, or cell phones, but we most certainly had Dynasty.
The media couldn't fear monger like it does now with the 24/7 news cycle.
The night soaps were making a comeback at one time, but now it seems like they are going away again. I loved the 80s prime time soaps! Those were the good days!
@Benito Lopez , did you like The Colbys too?
@Benito Lopez, which Fallon and Steven did you like best? Do you watch the new Dynasty and if so, do you like it?
@Benito Lopez , you liked Donna Reed over Barbara Bell Gedes?Barbara was Miss Ellie to me!
"I ALWAYS question motives. That's how I've survived so long and so well." ICONIC! Rest in power, Ms. Diahann Carroll.
Dominique's outfit is snatched, I live!
Trevor Logan oh yes ma'am!
My mother told me if you want to watch the most classiest cut throat shade then you have to watch dynasty I found it and now im getting my life
Indeed. There has never been anyone since who could hold a candle to Alexis, Dominique, Krystle, Fallon, and Sable.
I agree with most of these ladies except for Fallon Season 5-9. Fallon Seasons 1-4 yes.
Nolan Miller was King.
"I always question motives... that ´s how I survived so long and so well" 💅

Calm down Morgana it's a tv show jejeje 🖕🏻😉
Absolutely
They played half sisters on the show but they was spiritual sisters off the show
@@kaleahcollins4567 I thought Dominique was Blake's half-sister?
RIP Diahann

Dead!
Chaz Michael ikr? Whoever wrote the dialogue on that show sure knew his/her stuff
Lou
she pronounced it sister " not "sistah" dear
You caught that too?
DIAHANN WAS SUCH A BEAUTY. REST IN PEACE DIAHANN CARROLL.
I didn’t know she was dead 😮
Before the Real Housewives Franchises were shading each other, Dynasty and Dallas we're the pioneers of shading!
"Clawed by a lion or bitten by a cobra"- in this show, you get both!
My favorite part here is when Dominique is choking, she guzzles more wine instead of reaching for the glass of water.
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I like how the glass is magically teleported into her hand at 1:35 😄
@@SvenMatthias ☠☠☠☠☠😂😂😂😂

She was as ratchet as alexis 😂

I love this scene! The actresses, the lines, the fashion, and the scene. I wish I was having that lunch. From the Black Forest cake to the seafood.
On a side note, I miss these kind of rich incidental music cues like at the beginning of this scene.
I totally agree with you, the music in the older shows was very compelling and is lost today. Also, together with the music cues, they used long shots without dialogue where the actors had to emote using body language and facial expressions and truly ACT !!
I should have said in my reply “and ACTUALLY ACT !!”
That music teleported me straight back to my childhood 😍
Diahann Carroll character as Dominique was Classy, she was The Boss and she made sure her character wasn't a stereotype! Bravo 👏
I was very disappointed that the writers watered her character down 😢 sad.
Two beautiful women oozing class! The glamour and scandal of it all. So over-the-top. Boy how how miss Dynasty!
I hope to god for Dominique's sake that the champagne was not burnt!

Throwing shade, with class and elegance, iconic!!!!!
Two real life friends and GRAND DIVA's showing us how it is done. They both in sincerity are playing themselves.
ramona2400 ricky That is nice.
"Yeees I choke on his name too." 😃 LMAO 😂 😁 😂 😁 😂 That had me dead!
she didn't know yet that Dominique was choking in disgust at the thought of her being interested in her brother...
also she realized that Alexis didn't know about her and her brother's relationship I think....
Ultimately, it was foreshadowing to Dominique's tuberculosis storyline.
Lawd, the tuberculosis c-storyline! SMH. Dominique came to Denver on FIYAH until they stopped all that momentum and threw a bucket of cold water on her. These writers truly didn't know how to write for her and made her into a saloon singah.
Dominique threw shade with that fake choke on Alexis. Alexis fell for it without knowing that Blake and Alexis were half siblings.
The most elegant way of throwing shade. Both ladies did it well.

A shame, because those lunches look delicious

Alexis never finished any meals...
0:03 Omg that seafood plate 🤤
Two of the most beautiful women to ever walk this earth.
I want that chocolate cake with the cream and maraschino cherries in the opening scene!!!!!
"I choke on his name too." lol that was hilarious!

Can you believe both of these women were in their 50s when this was shown on tv and they look 10-15 years younger wow
Stem cell treatment maybe?
Shrimp and chocolate cake... good lunch.

Diahann Carroll was gorgeous and a groundbreaker. A wonderful combination.
my fav part is when she says "no witnesses" lmao. i'm gonna have to find a way to use that.
Even the Black Forest gateaux was frosty !
That cake could only pass in an elite setting in the 80s. Looks tasty though.
I wonder what they were talking about afterwards. They had to finish the food after all.

All that food and all these two took in was the aromas! Ladies like this DON'T eat, they just like to look like they do. However, they do DRINK.
Great to see this scene in it's entirety. Many of the syndicated versions edited the scene.
No food was eaten in this scene.
oldmacisback figures to watch at the dinner table and board room
They sure was sipping on that Sparkling apple cider (Champagne) and Grape juice (Wine).
Love her hat!! 🎩 ❤️
The two classiest women on tv in the early 80's: Dominique & Alexis!!
Oh for the days when a whole black forest cake on a silver tray on a glass table was a display of wealth and power.

prawn cocktail and black forest gateau, how very 80s and common.

Alexis and Dominique were perfection and iconic. This show had such a talented cast but had no clue how to write for any of them...
I never knew they still used the transatlantic accent in the 80s.
Shrimp and a giant cake 😂
If they ever teamed up together...watch out world.

Too cute...
I can use some of their hair and shoulder pads
