God bless you. Writing here from Michigan where most don't experience flooding, and certainly not hurricanes (except for the occasional rains we get as a result of the most powerful ones). What you have written is NOT cliche. No need to respond. Just wanting to let you know that I care. Go on to bless others through your personal experiences, as painful as they have been. I also know about pain. -Love, Tom

STOP GIVING YOUR MONEY TO CORRUPT ORGANIZATIONS & SO CALLED “CHARITIES” just about every cent goes to pay salaries, bonuses, etc..Do something to directly help someone or groups of people affected if you can..Research smaller local charities rather than the household name ones..

I wholeheartedly agree with this. Far too many Americans are deceived and foolish enough to think that organizations like Red Cross are using most their donation money to help, if you look at the stats its actually like 10% is used for charity and 90% is given as salary and "cost of operation", whatever the hell that actually means.

@@joshuaperkings5155 I worked as a "temp" for the Red Cross many (28) years ago. In NY. I saw a little of what was going on. I sometimes think it would be better to give the people prepaid credit cards to pay for their lodging and their food. Although the Red Cross does do some good things there is also corruption to some degree. There are other charities that are far more corrupt. Check Charity Navigator before donating, just my 2 cents

With climate change bringing a rise in ocean levels and increased water temperature, we can expect to see increased frequency and severity of storms. There are some basic precautions every household can take to be better prepared for weather-related emergencies and prolonged power outages. Every household should have stored in the home three day's worth of bottled water for each household member including pets, two week's worth of shelf-stable easy to prepare food, a one burner butane stove with extra butane cylinders for safe indoor cooking, a solar powered/battery-powered emergency radio, flashlights/headlamps/battery-powered camp lanterns with plenty of spare batteries for each household member, a first aid kit and training in basic first aid and CPR. Everyone who owns a vehicle suitable for highway travel should never let the fuel tank get below half-full and should be familiar with at least two evacuation routes just in case there is a situation that calls for immediate evacuation. You cannot alter what Mother Nature throws at you, but you can choose to stay prepared so you can cope better with it should the worst happen.

several weeks notice to get prepared to sit out the storm since you chose not to evacuate but you did nothing but mad at the world cause you have no food or power? when Harvey hit Houston my family was prepared since we decided to stay and not evacuate. plenty food, water, fuel and generators kept us comfortable and safe and left the handouts to those that needed. when the rain stopped i joined several rescues teams in my area using my Drones and my lifted truck to help locate people in need.

The problem is they see you as not them or me I am poor but don't live off the system, these poor that get hurt so bad are conditioned to being taken care of so the panic when it doesn't happen emediatly, this is the fallacy of socialism. It never works for the best of anybody. You no teach a person to feed and care for themselves and they will just aoutmaticly prepare and or ready themselves to evacuate.

  • @darienlenderson7120
    @darienlenderson7120 5 років тому +5

There are many who cannot afford a generator. Its easy to run out of food, water and supplies. How do you keep food cold or heat food up when the power goes out??? "Why didn't they evacuate???" If you have no money, are you inclined to let someone load you onto a bus and ship you hundreds of miles from home?? Many people aren't; because its too many unanswered questions. A lot of people dont want to be in dangerous shelters or camps.
And to see all these elderly and disabled Blacks is disheartening. Young Black men need to step it up and start being men. Its our jobs to get food, water and supplies to our most vulnerable.

Thank you to all the rescue workers who made the difference between life and death for NOT only my son but everyone in Florence's path. My son was 11 and his father chose not to leave their trailer near back gate of the base until 3 that morning that Florence hit. I was so very lucky to have found them the very last hotel room that still had power in j'ville . He put my son's life in danger by not leaving before he did . I thank God nothing happened to him before they got to their safe place. I just feel so badly for all of the rest of that area for the people that didn't have that choice to evacuate . I know this is 6 years later , but I still wanted to thank everyone who had anything to do with rescuing people of the NC beaches and surrounding areas. ❤❤❤ Also to everyone who made food to deliver to the people who didn't have anything. God bless all of you. ❤❤❤

We have a few tornadoes here and there in spring and summer. We have thunderstorms and plenty of rain year-round. Yet our conditions are gentle and moderate compared to the Carolina coast and other places vulnerable to hurricanes. God bless everyone on the east coast where the Atlantic Ocean is not always gentle. -With love, -T.

Dumb question from someone who lives in the desert, but how far away should you live from the rivers to avoid their flooding your house?
I've watched many of these videos and they make it seem like the entire city is under water.
We're there are not effected much? What is the typical damage like in an average home? Do all the roofs in Wilmington get replaced?
It's hard to know what the "normal" damage is when videos only focus on major disasters.
I'm actually thinking of moving to Wilmington, I'd like to avoid flood zones as a basic precaution. Maybe live outside of town at higher elevation, not near a river.
These need stories make it seem like big bad wolf is simply blowing down every home.

I grew up in Arizona and Colorado and my parents retired to south Carolina. The majority of neighborhoods are just planned poorly and don't have adequate drainage routes. Their yard floods regularly but it does drain downwards at least. When it rains there it pours like a shower if not worse. It's not even so much the rivers as it is poor planning due to generally lower income and just tons of water. The better planned communities have proper drainage and are on higher ground.

It is accurately referred to as "the 500-year flood" in North Carolina by meteorologists and historians, due to the rarity of flood stages that extreme. We are from Eastern North Carolina and I don't believe any of us had ever witness anything down there that actually topped 20 and 25 ft above flood stage in many areas. That's actually difficult to visualize even in retrospect.

I was a cop for 30 years, saw some horrible things. The closest thing I have to PTSD is when I remember working and living through Hurricane Florence. The Northeast Cape Fear River flooded my property, got in my workshop, and stopped just six feet short of my house. It rained, and rained, and rained. Four years later, and you can still see the results on Hwy 41 near Wallace, NC: There are vacant homes and people still living in campers.

I’m a Carolina resident and you can’t be any more correct. My Uncle’s beach house was completely destroyed and my beach condo is being gutted in the walls, floor, and roof. It’s still healing, there’s still floods, our piers and the scenery I loved since I was a child is completely different and a lot of small local restaurants are gone. It’ll take many, many years before we’re up to speed again.

Matthew and Florence just about decimated Life as we know it in North Carolina..... I was 8 years old when Fran came and we were out of power for a half month.... We were out for a week with Matthew...... But Florence did actual damage with wind that I don't think this part of our state has seen since Fran.... I remember for the first time of my life that I can recall that they had to spray the state for mosquitoes because they were just so so bad and we ain't talking no anorexic weight watcher mosquitoes now we talking about size of a small car and they would bite through your clothes..... This year's hurricane prediction forecast has already given me so much anxiety and worry..... Because there are so many places that are not the same since Matthew and Florence came through...... I just hope beg and plead and pray that it is not as bad as they say it might be for anybody...... Cuz it's not just about what it does to you financially it's about what it does to you emotionally mentally spiritually...... Going through a disaster cannot be truly explained unless you went through one.... Because it's not just the while the storm is happening it's all the prep work before and all the worry and recovery in the aftermath..... I just pray for safeness, compassion, and for the strength for everyone who may be impacted this year...from anything.....may we all be protected and blessed in every way ❤🙌🙏🙌❤

Part3: I live in Nashville TN. When we went through a devastating flood back in May 2010 FEMA was on it right away! Once the flood waters backed off & recovery began I like many other citizens of Davidson Co. did the paperwork for FEMA relief to simply get our lives back together. The difference between then & now is I received a check in just over a week‼️I slowly & wisely began to piece my home back together. I stretched the $ out as far as possible. The OBAMA ADMINISTRATION was ON IT! The only stipulation was I had to reside in my home for 3yrs & I wouldn’t owe anything. Zero!!! It’s 2018 & I’m still here! This is the way it SHOULD BE! But let’s fast forward to now.... To pay for the massive tax cuts for the wealthy FEMA & other programs have been gutted. Citizens of SOUTH CAROLINA I have sympathy(& empathy)for you but guys THIS IS WHAT YOU VOTED FOR! Enjoy!!!

God bless the first responders and volunteers.
I don't understand; the hurricane was known for a long time, why did they not evacuate or make arrangements? Especially for the children, disabled, and elderly. Were they denied help and services? Perhaps the systems in place were inadequate? I know to never rely on bureaucratic assistance, they are the last resort. I used to work for the government, I know how corrupt it really is.
The last lady interviewed I couldn't make out what she was saying, her accent is too thick. Sounded like it was about not having police help and someone needs to do something?
Given the initial estimates of weather ferocity, and original predictions of devastation, I was surprised on how little harm happened. It could have been much worse. Mostly flooding damage, almost no loss of life or injuries, unless they were being suppressed.
That's the risk of living in a region prone to hurricanes, the possibility of water and wind destruction. Good to have insurance coverage.
My prayers go out to all.

My family members used to say there were FEMA camps (Alex Jones said so), these disasters goes to show how inept FEMA is.

Some folks simply don't have anywhere else to go. They don't have family or friends outside the affected area or money to afford hotel lodging.

Its rained once for 44 hours and the water never rose over a foot so that's why i believe im in a flood free area. Now theres a river a couple miles from where i live that rose over and flooded but its unlikely it Will travel all the way and flood my area.

I am so glad I live in Michigan. We don't have hurricanes. Yes our weather is a yo-yo but we don't have that kind of weather.
I understand people that don't have the money to evacuate. I wouldn't either but I would try to get all of the supplies I needed to get by. I wouldn't be able to get it all at once so I would get it over time
When you live anywhere that a hurricane might come through stock up on food and supplies during the year.
I sincerely hope they get their lives back to something like normal soon!!

I always wonder why there are death tolls when warnings are given in advance.. Enough time to evacuate. Stop being stubborn! You can build back a house but you wouldn't even get the chance if you're dead.

Also you guys I’ve lived in the Carolinas and sometimes it’s a false alarm and a lot of times nothing even happens just some flooding (which yes is bad too obviously)but it’s more avoidable also a lot of times they’re elderly, sick, or poor they can’t do anything please don’t hate on them or blame them a lot of them yeah just don’t leave (I know people who did that but those same people also couldn’t leave cause of money reasons)
You’re a terrible person if you’re blaming the poor and sick and elderly that can’t do anything pleas think about them before you say anything.

If it weren't for volunteers a lot of things would not have gotten done. it's miserable and inconvenient when there is no power but people need to still count their blessings when they still have their homes to stay in I get sick and tired of seeing people complain on some of these videos that it's somebody else's job to take care of them because they are so used to the government just jumping in and catering to all the needs of people who have become so dependent on the government that they can't even think for themselves or even try.
It becomes a way of life for certain people in certain areas and I am not saying that it is their fault. I'm saying that they have become conditioned by the government (both state and loca)they become dependent and complacent as well so they justl sit back and wait for someone else to do something.
