I have to admit, I only met your channel because I wanted to play Pokémon Unite better and your channel helped me with that, but as time went on I slowly stopped playing the game, but still watched your videos. I really like you as a content creator and as a person, I've watched your gameplays for far longer than I thought I would, simply because you're a fun guy. Whatever it is that you're gonna do with the channel in the near future, I'm staying.

Not sure if its simply a hot take or not, but personally the meta has been so awful and unejoyable for me. The immense amount of CC and unite move spam from certain chatacters has just killed so much of my enjoyment. And this is obviously just on top of the usual crappy matchmaking, awful teammates, addition of new horrible ingame events such as these, etc. The current meta was already slowly breaking me, all these recent additions have just been the icing on the cake.
I stopped played simply because the player base is SO BAD. Teammates are too immature, they purposely steal farm and don't play as a team. They'd rather troll then actually work together. In addition, the other team is always a 3 or 5 stack. I never won when this was the case. I had to find one good friend to play with and then we as the 2 on our team of 5 carried the team.
Speaking as a once daily player who is now an occasional unite enjoyer, listen to yourself when you feel this way and take a step back to focus on other things. Things that either bring you some joy, are productive for your future goals, or simply don’t actively make you feel bad. Wait until you actually miss playing unite and you may find (like I have) that it’s actually kinda fun when it’s not such a huge presence in your life. It sucks though bc it has so much potential, so I feel you on that
I think the meta is in one the best states we’ve seen, at least I consider a meta solid when there’s no single character dominating that the meta revolves around them. Blaziken being the “best” pokemon in the game and being a high skill pokemon actually speaks a lot how far we’ve come. My problem is how disgustingly stale it is. No new map updates, patch notes always do the bare minimum and never enough, something like the the duraludon rework but for one pokemon per patch could do wonders but instead they nerf eject button again. The reason I can’t keep coming to this game is because the devs atp aren’t giving me any reason to. I hate how revenue obsessed they are now…

The dura rework wasn't even that good
Basic attacks got smacked for some minor buffs to the dragon moves, rocks getting a pretty decent buff, and cannon being a bit better until it seemingly starts being bugged(that initial speed up sometimes doesn't happen and sometimes you just outright don't attack despite the enemy clearly being visible and targeted)
@@SergalCheeseHead oh no I’m not talking about how good the dura rework was (it’s not) just the idea that each patch could rework a single pokemon like this. Imagine they did this for gengar before it was buffed recently, maybe even one that just overhauls the launch pokemon passives to not be mid. Just SOMETHING substantial that isn’t just “increase CD”.
Honestly I haven't played Pokemon unite in over a year and even though I still keep up with information. This game definitely feels worse after every year

The stuff happening rn is definitely disappointing but I would still say this is better than 2023. Honestly I didnt play before april this month but the last around 6 months of the game hasnt seen any meta nearly as bad as Zac, M2s, even Mimi meta. So while some stuff is very disappointing and I hope timi addresses it I do think the balance is a major step up from last yr and in turn makes the gameplay much more fun.

I thought the Zoroark bundle for that skin was bad but this Sylveon event takes the cake; it's disgusting/greedy and calling this game Unite is such a joke.

I hate when people say "well just don't play it!" or "just ignore it!" any time a game gets criticized. It's almost like we criticize things that we care about and enjoy because we want them to be the best they can be. Such a weak mindset to encourage others who want change to just give up.
For free to play games, any minute you're not playing is a minute you're not spending money, so they're impacted, somewhat.
With a company as big and disconnected with its western audience as Pokémon, that's pretty much your best and only bet.

@@ChamAramis Tbh if Pokemon Unite starts dropping players bad enough for them to have net monetary loss they’d probably just shut it down or stop supporting it with new content. And really I doubt they care about losing players if they’re willing to completely end service in two countries, what matters is the select part of the playerbase that actively and frequently makes purchases. The monetization sucks but unless people stop buying skins (which they won’t) they’re gonna keep doing it.
This might be an unpopular opinion, but I hope larger countries consider outlawing these predatory gacha systems. Maybe that would force games to stop using these super predatory and disheartening monetization systems, making the gaming community as a whole healthier
Pokémon Company could've avoided that by simply putting the items in the shop, whether they'll be expensive or not. The Sylveon hollo could very well cost 5k/10k/15k gems in-game, but at least you'd be certain that by paying, you'll get it.
The laws in these countries are strict about those gacha/gambling mechanism games... It's sad that they chose to lose players & fans instead of being simple. The issue is not the price, but the probability.
4:30, supercell actually made some changes to their games so that they are able to be played in countries with anti gambling laws, think of the removal of brawl boxes in brawls stars

I have loved watching you play Pocket and I loved watching you play Scarlet and Violet and Legends. I'm still occasionally playing Unite but seeing you do other things made me watch you more again. You are incredibly entertaining and fun. We want, or at least I want, to see you play other games along with Unite.

also by tencent and chinese tech company's standard, this game is a miracle to still be alive after so many years with it's potential roi, it might only be alive bc of the nintendo tencent partnership with releasing switches in china, which nobody really buys anyway unless they really have no idea what's going on - tencent's switches can't access eshop or international multiplay and only a handful bigger titles are available

@@HeyHeyChey unite is not available in china yet, it's been in beta for almost 2 years. all chinese games require a goverment issued ID number to be released, which unite got end of 2022, that's when they were allowed to start beta testing. to give you an idea of how slow chinese switch games are being released, they just got star allies few months ago and let's go pikachu/eevee september 26. that being said i don't see unite getting released for switch china at all, it's just not lucrative enough considering the operational cost, tencent can quite literally sell that ID number (technically illegal but some smaller game studios do trade those, it's in the grey area) to make more money than releasing the game on siwtch there
Hey Jake, I was thinking about it, and in League Of Legends something similar happened years ago.
Riot decided to launch a skin worth hundreds of dollars for something stupid, and the community decided that it's so dumb, that the character that got the skin (Ahri) would get permabanned in draft. It didn't work to remove it, of course, but it hasn't happened ever since.
I would like to do this aswell in Unite, and, hopefully in addition of the petition, Timi hopefully makes a change.
I hopped on yesterday after being gone since Mewtwo x came out. Honestly, it's just as bad as I remember except it feels balanced. Now it is the same old players being bad.

Pokemon Unite can still be saved IF they scrap everything and turn it into a traditional MOBA game.
This is so stupid because dutch and belgian players can't compete now with sylveon event but still can play for a year why not keep this for us and the gacha for the rest of the world lazy developers

I'll support your content but my Unite days are pretty much done. It breaks my heart because before the Nintendo Switch came out, I wished for a game like this because of the portability & my love for pokemon. It's the 1st game that got me into moba & I enjoy the competitive aspect of it; the game also allows you to be creative with certain builds that I don't know if others do the same. If they get competitors like other mobas doing the same with big IPs, that would (hopefully) force them to be less greedy & fix stuff the game needs, I might come back

I've spent a bit of money on some skins that I truly like. Nothing too crazy. You can see we both come from two different positions, and we both arrive at the same conclusion.
As of now, people are making it too much of a big deal in my opinion. We'll see how this system evolves.

Ive been playing unite since the begining, i droped it for a time in the second year but came back for the third year and now with all my group of friends into it. When we where kids we played games all the times but now that we are older we dont have the time as before to hang out and play something.
But unite, thanks to its simplicity and being able to play for everybody from phones or switch has makes us all fall in love to it, wining, losing, thinking strategies, we just have a blast and for the first time in years all the gang is playing and chatting for this one game.
And sice we are all into it, your videos are something we all watch, to learn about the game and to discuss tecnics, i hope you keep making videos because we all love them.
Imagine if pokemon put their games on other consoles, they would make so much money.

I think everyone is overreacting here. You don't need a skin badly enough for people to be this upset. It just isn't that big of a deal... The Netherlands part suucks to be sure, but I think your discussion about the first countries will be hit the hardest is spot on. If the US did this, then people wouldn't develop apps this way.

That's such a wild take. Yes, you are talking about the bad things they're doing, but by saying that you're sticking through to the end no matter what, you're giving timi permission to do whatever the hell they want, no matter how many countries they end up taking the game from in the process.
Timi will never reverse their decision unless people like you, the largest unite streamers, actively take a stand and tell them that hey, if they don't do something, I will actually quit. Not "Hey, you're doing something bad but that's okay I'm still gonna play"
Because whether you want to acknowledge it or not, you actively streaming and making videos about Unite is free promotion for Unite, and actively supporting them in their decision to end the game in 2 countries.
No matter what it is i’ll watch u until the end. Even if i decide not to play unite anymore one day, i will always still watch your videos because you’re entertaining to watch and your videos heal me 🤭
I think these laws are only good if they apply universally to all countries so companies are forced to abide them instead of ignoring a few countries cuz people in these countries might not find games to play over time

Saying the Netherlands and Belgium have the population of a US city is incorrect, the Netherlands and Belgium have roughly 30 million people together whereas the biggest US city, New York, has 8 million people. It's about equivalent of the amount of people living in the state of Texas.
Im just hoping the new match system from the china beta somehow brings unite to a better place, i really appreciate this game a lot, the concept may be similar to may others, but DAMN THERE ARE POKEMON ON A MAP ,how cool is that. In short i just hope it gets better
Very rarely do large MOBAs have “free events” where you can get cool things for free. I’d say this past update wasn’t the worst especially for f2p. Through ice pops you can easily get 200 item enhancers(a big amount fs) and in the other quick game event u get a free 2 energy tanks and energy boosts. All in all their giving 800 gems worth of things to f2p players, assuming u can win 5 quick matches in a row and play 12 games through 2 weeks.
i would play too until the wheels fall off if it WEREN’T FUCKING FOR UNITE ENDING SERVICES HERE DUDE ☹️
I swear this is the only game that I'm playing that most of the events right now is just Money Hungry. You can't even earn shards when you purchase the battlepass (just like most of the battlepasses on every other game right now) I know they need to earn money but they should at least give more content to free-to-play players so that it can be more rewarding and make players grind more rather than spend more.
The thing that doesn't add up to me is that China also has some pretty tough laws banning loot boxes (for purchase using real money or in-game currency), gambling, and compulsion loops. Am I missing something? Why is the decision being framed as a choice between continuing support for Belgium/NL and China? Is it just that they're willing to curb their monetization for China because it is a bigger market, but they don't want to curb their monetization specifically for Belgium/NL laws because they're just smaller markets?
Anyway, thanks for speaking about this, Jake. Pokemon Unite and mobile games like it are incredibly frustrating, because Unite is actually a fun game, but it is so hard to justify continuing to play the game in my mind when they keep making changes to the game that are pretty transparently open contempt for the players and treats them like obstacles between the company and their money.
Over the past 5 years or so, I've been seriously rethinking my relationship with games and the trajectory of gaming. I love games. I'll never apologize for loving games. There are just a lot of trends happening in the gaming world right now that feel dirty and run counter to the reasons I love gaming. I've been making more rules for myself about what games are worthy of my time, attention, and dollars, and as part of that process, I've been getting into game development myself.
The indie game I've been developing for the last 2 years is how I've been coping with the current state of gaming, and I hope to be able to release it in a state that people can enjoy both in terms of fun and the peace of mind that they don't have to protect themselves from the way it is monetized.
I'm kinda tired of feeling dirty by picking up games that are custom-engineered to prey on my worst impulses.

I'm considering quitting this game until they do something about matchmaking tbh, I think it's mainly the 'sunk cost fallacy' that's keeping me playing at this point. The majority of the time, the game just isn't enjoyable to play, and no amount of new releases or greedy lootbox/gacha mechanics is going to fix the fundamental flaws this game has. Anyone I've watched stream this game literally looks and sounds like they're having a miserable experience at least 80% of the time, and it's because of stupid teammates aka the non-existent matchmaking.

I've always appreciated both how much you enjoy the game, but also being unafraid to criticize it when needed. And this situation, definitely, is one worth criticism. I understand that MOBAs are inherently predatory, but attaching it to the Pokemon game--something that appeals to all ages, including kids--then adding gambling is just pretty gross.
i subbed a few months before unite released. i remember subbing because you were one of the biggest channels (i think 10k subs?) talking about unite. i haven’t played in years but i continue to love your content. do whatever you think is right, at least for me, i don’t watch for the unite gameplay. i watch because i enjoy your content!

I'll be completely honest, Time is running a similar erasure hunt loot box event in clash of clans right now but everything is F2P sure they have the gold pass and gems to buy and other packs etc... but the most egregious thing we had was a $32.99 USD village cosmetic skin. I think this is surely some pressure from Time but I genuinely think that the Devs have just made the choice to treat us like this. Supercell has had plenty of issues since Time acquired them but their dev team has fought to keep things meaningful and engaging for F2P players while having easy access to an online shop where you can purchase things directly as you need them.
The only thing with pocket is that once you complete the current pokedex, you'll be waiting for the next expansion. Unless they make battles a lot more competitive, it might just turn into a daily mission game.
I wonder if Pokémon Unite cost say $30-45 if we would have better updates, better monetary rewards, etc.
At the end, is not the company... The bad players are ki llin the game... Who wants to play with trolls, afk, tilts... Its just get boring to play... There is no reward for being master...
I've watched many content creators in order to improve my game in unite learning the ropes and tips but it's your content that made me learn how to enjoy the game (not only unite but also my perception of games in general). Thanks to your videos i started to appreciate more the fun in enjoying the challenge rather than concentrating on the frustration. Right now I'm having fun playing unite and my game is also much better than two years ago.
I have struggled with the game at many points but i keep coming back to unite because it's one of the few games in the pokemon franchise (and the most successful currently) where i feel like i can control the pokemon directly instead of just giving it orders from a corner. I've always loved that feeling since Pokemon Stadium mini games and Super Smash Bros. I hope unite survives these dark times and we keep having fun for a few more years to come.

I officially uninstalled both this and Masters. Two of my favorite spinoffs to the franchise in I don't know how long somehow making extremely anti-consumer decisions in the same month tells me it's time to move on.
But I'll still be watching. Just because it's time for me to move on from playing doesn't mean I can't be excited from the sidelines when cool pokemon come out. I'm glad you're still enjoying it. Keep up the content. Can't wait to watch some Psyduck!
For the first time since I’ve started playing my girlfriend and I have decided to kinda boycott the game. It’s always been a bit of a money hungry beast like all free to play games, but between devaluing the membership (which we both had), and now this loot box mechanic it’s just too much. This isn’t something that should be encouraged and I appreciate you for calling them out on it Spragels.
Truthfully, i am just trying to play and enjoy the game i like. Some expensive holowear which 90% of the player base will not buy (including me) will not trigger me really at all. Or some event which is poorly done also. Maybe i just don't care that much but i still play this game od daily basis and things like this will not tilt me. Things can get much better but also much worse so we are where we are and I am ok with it.
Like many, i have been watching Jake since the very beginning of Unite when i was looking for a streamer to get advice on the game. I played up until Hoopa, but I stayed for the content ever since and the fact that others did is a testament to your entertainment value. Whether its Unite, Pocket, TCG live or Call of Duty. I'm tunung in!

But I think you have the right approach: try to see the good and stay in a positive mindset, but absolutely call out the bad when you see it. Too many see in black and white, but when you look in between, there's a lot to see.
I appreciate all the work and content you do, Jake(s), from the humour and good vibes to the insight and tips. It's nice to hear a voice of encouragement in a community that could easily be lacking one, and it speaks to your social awareness when you recognise there are players like me who are new to the genre and here for the Pokémon. Thanks Jake I have similar feelings with the game, love the gameplay but hate the lootboxes monetisation. Hopefully more countries will adopt those laws that protect gamers from gambling and we can erradicate this horrible anti consumer tactics forever. Take care Jake love your content.

I played almost everyday since day one to Pokémon Unite... I'm very sad, but maybe I will quit the game.
I loved your content but since they announced that unite is gonna stop support for belguime, where i live, i stopped playing it, i hate these moneygreedy companies that are destroying the way gaming is going, same goes with the big AAA gamestudios who present a (un)finished game for 70€ and in the end you still need to buy dlc to have the full game wich cost also includes 15/30€ per dlc so i’ll stick to my ps4 and pc gaming when i can, i’m allso a dad of 3 toddlers so gaming will become the last thing i’ll be able to do, but still i used to relax playing videogames and the way things go these days i think i’ll need to find a whole new other hobby 😅
Nice video Jake. Glad you’re still going to be around. Even when I stopped playing after year 1, I would still occasionally watch your videos as they were entertaining.
I’m playing a little again now after the hiatus, a pity about the silly events but at least it’s not P2W yet.
