  • Clive Christian's 1872 Masculine was one of my first big splurge fragrance!

    I remember after buying it, I broke out into a cold sweat...."what have I just done! Spending $400!!"

    But oh my goodness, this fragrance has been an absolute winner and an all time favourite from the beginning.
    1872 is a wonderful fresh and woody chypre fragrance that has an amazing citrus, green spicy opening, drying down to an elegant masculine fragrance that creates a wonderful trail for you and others.

    Check out the NFC UA-cam Channel for the full review and the backstory on The Crown Perfumery Co. which was first established in 1872.....see the connection??

    Sir you chose an absolute masterpiece today. However I really think they went way over their heads with the price for this one. I think i will get it in a couple of years but currently it is above my budget (even though i love getting expensive niche fragrances). Anyway you described it perfectly and to me this is a smell of a guy with A LOT of extra cash.

      Hey Philip, yep this one is a winner. I also like that this can easily be a younger man fragrance or an older mature scent too...it’s very versatile. As always love your contribution and insight🙌🏽. Thanks Philip👊🏽

    1.2k followers… I knew you’d pass the first big milestone in no time at all. Well deserved and thank you for your hard work and great content.
    I have reservations with some of Clive Christians work and marketing (the most expensive perfume in the world etc) but not with 1872. This smells classic but new, with roots based in past and yet seems very original.
    Great review as usual.

      Yes, I have seen their “most expensive perfume” catch cry but, I guess it’s good marketing (here we are talking about it). That aside, I do find that they put a lot of effort to preserve the heritage of the original Crown Perfumery Co and their original formulas and methods, plus I enjoy the way these fragrances smell.
      Thanks again Benji, as always, I’m appreciative of your comments and insight

      Hey @Adz Adzy, I’m surprised that 1872 didn’t have staying power on you?? I find for me that I spray 3 times and I’m good to go for the day. I can smell it all day long. If you do happen to test this one again, I’d be interested to see how it wears.
      Thank you Adz for your kind words and support; it’s greatly appreciated 💪🏽

    Great deep review, how do you compare this with elysium? which one stay longer & have better projection? how long does it last on your skin, i heard that you said you got 1hr projection, how about the longevity?

    • @TheNicheFragranceCollector
      @TheNicheFragranceCollector  2 роки тому

      Thank you for reaching out @Richard it's wonderful to see that you've connected a number of the Clive Christian episodes (I'm seeing a theme here!)
      For me Elysium and 1872 are two very distinct fragrances. Elysium for me is Aromatic (fresh, citrus with a clean crisp wood base). Whereas 1872 is a Mossy Woods (citrus, herbaceous with a wet damp wood base).
      If I stacked them against each other 1872 has greater longevity on me but I find that they project equally as well as each other. For me Elysium is ultimate summer, going out, fun day. Whereas I love wearing 1872 as an evening fragrance (I wear it as a day fragrance but so you can see how the 2 would fit)
      The end summary?....2 very distinct fragrance and I would say, you need both (sorry!)
      Hope that helps Richard.....great to hear from you mate!

      @@TheNicheFragranceCollector well thanks to you and your libertine code I've been able to test all the roja colognes and some parfums of theirs, and soon after picked up a bottle of Enigma which I'm absolutely addicted to. Also really want to get my nose on Sweetie Aoud as I like what I'm hearing/reading, but was out of stock at libertine, next time 😌.
      Then, get this, by chance I saw an Instagram post from roja parfums Thursday. They are celebrating 10 years and released a limited luxury discovery set featuring their top juice...but, they don't ship to Australia, so I let them know I was disappointed and to my surprise received a response.
      After a little back and forth via dm's with their customer service they confirmed they could make it happen and ship it to me, so I jumped on it. Most expensive sample set I think I'll ever buy 😅😭
      It still needs to make it here safely but assuming it does I consider myself very lucky to have the chance to sample his 4 violet cap creations and parfums de la nuit 1,2,3, especially Haute Lux which is $4k+AUD a bottle and a little.....a lot outside my price range.
      Have you tried these?

    • @TheNicheFragranceCollector
      @TheNicheFragranceCollector  3 роки тому

      Whoa, when you said you were have a ‘love affair’ with Roja, you weren’t wrong. Man, awesome work on getting those samples; how cool when that parcel arrives! You’re going to smell awesome my brother.
      So happy that you’re taking good advantage of Libertines generosity when it comes to samples that they send; it’s an excellent way to discover new fragrance’s. I haven’t really gone into Roja’s fragrances too deeply. I tested them very early on, and I think I wasn’t ready for the complexity of his fragrance’s (and the price points😣)....but I know I need to take time to explore this further. I have Elysium and Danger (Colognes), what would you recommend in his Parfum range?
      Thanks again @T C

      As I mentioned in the last comments...you have awesome taste (and clearly a nice bag of money to spend!! Good for you). My best recommendation is to test first. Spend that much to have to mix it with another fragrance to balance it out doesn’t seem worth it.

    • @TheNicheFragranceCollector
      @TheNicheFragranceCollector  3 роки тому

      Hmmm, maybe I misrepresented this. My wife doesn’t like the dry down on the 1872 Masculine. She finds it too woody/spicy.
      By layering with the 1872 Feminine (which has a strong bouquet of flowers in the heart but the base is very similar to the Masculine) it layers perfectly and softens it up....and allows me to get nice and close to my wife 😏
      The fragrance is perfect as a stand alone but it was also designed to be layered with it’s companion. I talk more about this on the X (Masculine and Feminine) ua-cam.com/video/aeqDgEtm4Cg/v-deo.html
