my first rhaenyra edit!! while i aaaaam team green i do like rhaenyra a lot, and i hope this edit reflects that lol. rhaenyra is absolutely a victim of the men around her, especially her father, viserys, who neglected her and set her up for failure. perhaps THAT part didn't come across well but i have other rhaenyra edits planned :)
also plz notice how i tried to use as little daemon as possible bc i hate his ass

I cannot stop watching this. It's so perfect in so many ways. The way the song is written and sung by a man but perfectly applies to a female character, played by a non-binary actor, is so interesting. The way she was always too boyish to be a proper princess and then isn't man enough to be a monarch. The way it sits in conversation with the labour video of Alicent and shows how they are on two different sides of the gender roles of their society, and how it puts them at odds. Alicent from her prison of traditional womanhood, where every moment of every day is sacrifice in the service of others, sees Rhaenyra as maddeningly free, as shirking her duty in a way that spits in the face of everything that Alicent has been told she had to devote her life to. But meanwhile Rhaenyra is walking this impossible knife's edge of her own discordant gender roles, trying to fulfill her own duties - be the son her father wanted, the King her country needs, wife, mother, lover, friend, true to herself, and not quite meeting anyone's expectations, failing in everyone's eyes in different ways. And meanwhile I feel like there's hints in the video (and in the show) of their romantic feelings towards each other, and how gender plays into that in complicated ways. Rhaenyra's not man enough to be Alicent's husband, and not woman enough to be her friend, and I don't even know which part Alicent's more upset about, or if she knows.

@@mycomputerissad The avoidance of Daemon is kinda noticeable given that 'having sex like a man' is a theme in her story and the song and that man is specifically Daemon. 🤔
@@Ardelin_ i mean it’s more the fact that she has multiple sexual partners, “like a man”. women aren’t supposed to do that, but men can do whatever they want.
