    As far as vocals are concerned, it is challenging because it is the one instrument we know inside out.
    That being said, if we want to get good vocals, we must get the fundamentals in order.
    A good room, good mic technique, a mic that has a frequency response that compliments the vocalist
    Well performed vocals, capturing vibe, pitch and good timing.
    Before mixing, cut the all silence pieces out, silence pieces, Kan introduce extraneous noises. after this is done, make any timing corrections that unnecessary, ensuring your BPM is set, and you can hear the metronome. After that, perform manual pitch correction. After that, use clip gain automation to level the vocals out. At this point, you should be able to press play and not hear any pitch time or crazy dynamic anomalies
    Do that, and vocals suddenly become much easier to mix

    I’m a live sound engineer and the behringer X32 is absolutely incredible at its price point and has allowed a lot of event spaces and churches with smaller budgets to afford a full featured digital console.
    That being said, I recently had the opportunity to run multitracks through an x32 and a Yamaha CL5 (a $25k console) and the difference in sound quality is immediately noticeable.
    Shout out to behringer for creating actually usable “entry level” products, but you still get what you pay for.

    • @chemdrum
      @chemdrum 9 місяців тому

      When you say “run multitracks through” the x32 and Yamaha CL5, do you mean recording multitracks in to your DAW and listening to them back in your studio environment or do you mean running your multitracks from your DAW through the mixers as a virtual sound check and listening back in your PA?

    Plugin Alliance and Waves are my go-to ecosystems for sure. Literally EVERYTHING you need. The Kirchhoff EQ replaced my Pro-Q3. The Black Box replaced my Saturn. Any compressors, EQ’s, and Channel Strips are completely covered no matter what. I’m surprised PA wasn’t mentioned when talking ecosystems.

    • @django3108

      Black Box and Saturn are nothing alike in my experience. Saturn is far more complex and powerful.

    • @DderronB27
      @DderronB27 4 місяці тому

      @@django3108 Complex, yes! Powerful, subjective. I like getting more with less and Black Box has been awesome for that. I’ll admit that I still use Saturn occasionally though lol. I use WAY more PA plugins than Fab-Filter nowadays.

    • @django3108
      @django3108 4 місяці тому

      @@DderronB27 I find it powerful because of its flexibility, on strict sound quality, I think Black Box is pretty much superior, but it has "one" sound and then a bunch of slight deviations from it
      Saturn quite literally has no sound because of how ridiculously flexible it is. I didnt even understand it's full potential for years.

    I will say that Silk Vocal has replaced a few plugins in my chain for cleaning my vocals but that's cuz I'm not recording in the best environments. But I agree that it's not necessary. Xvox is also not necessary but it's cool. If you don't already have an all in one for vocals, it's not bad if you got it on sale

  • @Powhart

    OK now maybe it's not the greatest example cause I'm definitely not on that level of recording but recently I bought myself UAD Sphere LX Mic. I love it so far but not entirely for it's emulations. I'm using the emulation plugin as a mixing stage and the results are incredible. I'm finding myself doing two very VERY gentle scoops on EQ after that and basically leaving the rest of my chain as it is, which is suppose to emulate the hardware vocal chain. What it got me thinking is that it may be true, that if You nail the recording, You pretty much have it all mixed by itself. On the other hand - I can't imagine me having this huge knowlegde of knowing before hand what mic to use on what part of the recording, how close or far to record and what angle to set the microphone to get rid, or boost the high frequencies.

If you booked a room and there was a SSL G series console in that room..THATS ALL YOU HAD, then you had your outboàd stuff sure.... I discovered when mixing a song and using all the same channel strip say if its SSL then everything is SSL. FROM FOUNDATION..then ofcourse you can 1176 compressor etc.. but EVERYTHING "GELS TOGETHER WELL.. we didnt use this frankinstein hybrid kind of.. api on drums, ssl on vocal or whatever in the REAL WORLD that created the BEST MUSIC.
