I cannot tell you how much I appreciate you! Thank you for being a real teacher who is not afraid of the thoughts of other professionals. What she discussed is exactly what I am struggling with and have been struggling with for 20 years but I never would’ve found her without you.

Either I am at the right time of my life to watch this video, or the video came at the right time. In any case, I have been going through a lot of growth and changes in the last couple of years of my life. I have heard about Growth mindset before, it was something we touched on at Uni ages ago and other self-study courses I have taken. But today, this video struck me hard. I think it is because the last couple of weeks, I have been fighting an infection and can't speak outside of teaching my classes (well, opt to not speak). When you can't speak, or on a forced silence, you tend to start to reflect internally on yourself and the things you have experienced in life.
I find it absolutely fascinating the exercise she said about using a mirror. You see, I tend to write for fun as well, and I just recently wrote a chapter scene where the character is doing exactly this exercise. For different reasons, but it was just really cool to see it come up under such similar pretenses.
This video has given me even more to contemplate and consider as I go through the grows of mid-adult life. I want to share this one with a few places, too.

Please tell Cate that I said "Thank you for the advice". I'll definitely have words about what was said- (hopefully, this time, without losing me temper again, 'cos that childish nonsense gets ya nowhere, I think you'll agree!) You've gotta discuss these things calmly and like adults. It's always better to discuss stuff when you've calmed down a bit- (not in the heat of the moment, when your temper's more likely to go!)

Norbert Wiener ... wow! At some very deep level, music and mathematics touch; but you have to spend some time with each of them to find the place.

What about imagining people in the audience in *your* underwear?
    But seriously, folks ...
Keep in mind that if listeners aren't keen on your performance, they'll forget about it almost immediately
But if they are affected by it, they'll remember it fondly beyond that evening.

      Nice additional thoughts, unlikely!

Much obliged, Dan ... and my mamma calls me "Doug". I go by that on the Facebook page, as well.

I really appreciate Cate’s advice regarding paying attention to the source of feedback, specifically when men are giving feedback to female singers. There is just so much bias, I wonder if men are even able to check their bias? Case in point- I’m auditioning for a band, the ad called for female lead singer. Awesome, I’m that. But some of the songs are not suitable. In fact, I can’t find one single cover of a female doing one of the songs, in which the singer is actually good at singing the song. While there may be other reasons thats true, I think this song selection is just not appropriate. Sadly, I may not find the courage to say it during the audition. I may just do my best, and address it in the future, given the opportunity.

I hear your concerns about bias, and wonder whether both men and women are at times give to unconscious bias?
