How does an NBA player playing high school football mean they could make it in the NFL? A lot of the players that get drafted into the NFL never take a snap as a starter. And these are guys that have focused only on football. Even with a year worth of training, NBA players would still not be technically proficient enough to be very effective. Plus the strength difference would be massively in favor of the football guys. Also speed and quickness and standing vertical would all favor the football guys. Most basketball guys would have to play a non-blocking TE. The moment they get knifed by a safety it’s game over.
If NFL teams actually recruited players from the NBA I think Ant Edwards, Jonathan Kuminga and Cam Whitmore would be the most intriguing due to their elite athleticism, youth and already having near NFL level strength they would be good Tight end prospects. Honestly, more than half the NBA could play football at a high level. Their training would look different and ultimately their build would change but they are definitely capable. Football actually stops after every play giving the players rest, it requires less awkward movements, they have a ton of protective gear and no player actually plays offense and defense and special teams whereas basketball players have to do everything in their sport. Let’s not get started on plays and skills. Some positions require skill but none require making up your own play. The most they do is cancel one play and switch to another. The only part I disagree with is that you do not have 30 NFL players who could play basketball. You definitely do have more than 30 that could. So this is an interesting conversation because what hypothetical situation are you putting the nba players in suit up and get out there or do they get training camp or maybe a whole season to get acclimated I think either way the transition from the nba to the nfl is easier because of how reliant the nba is on shooting it would be hard to replicate the amount of reps necessary to get to an nba level of shooting the ball in a year or two or three
