Somali food is for everyone it’s comfort food we have rice pasta and we know how to cook our protein it’s just over all the best it’s most underrated food, the banana thing is a joke we don’t eat everything with banana it’s something we grew up on for people who try first it might be weird or like it

The donut shaped pastry is bajiya which is ground black eye peas with spices and herbs. You probably remember eating it at an Indian restaurant.

Okay since everyone saying the round thing is called bajiya it’s not bajiya it’s just a doughnut type a thing it has sweet taste to it you gotta eat it with the Sambusa it’ll give you sweet and salty type a flavor bajiya is actually salty and you eat it with green hot sauce the round dough where I’m from in somalia we call it (bur kantubow) other parts of Somalia they call it ( bur duleel) next time y’all should ask for bajiya and you’ll know exactly what I’m talkin bout bajiya is basically made out of beans hope this helps

Yes. Bajiiye is made of beans and other spices and buur shushub is just made of flour. I think when people hear buur they think of mendazi (buur) and not buur katumbow/shushub.

“Somalian” is a very traumatic word for most of us, because growing up we got bullied and called Somalian(Somali-alien) as an insult. So Somali is the correct term and comes with less baggage.

Ok couple of things to clarify.....as Somalis are number one choice of meat is Lamb, so what you're eating is Lamb. We are one of the biggest exporters of livestock in africa. The green chilli is called basbaas, is a mixture of garlic, lemon, chillis etc. The red one is called Shigni, its more like a chutney got dates, tamarind etc. The black spice is called a clove....I am proud of my somali food and yes it is banging. lol

The spicy sauce gets you after I wish I can teach you or have my mum cook for you because Somali seafood 🦞 not just the fish thing overseas Somalis are on crab , lobster muscles squid octopus People back home are eating you two are beautiful
