- Today I reviewed the MSR Pocket Rocket 2, one of the most lightweight stoves you can buy for backpacking and camping. I wondered can the MSR Pocket Rocket 2 cook food? Or even a steak? So that's what I tried, I cooked up a steak using the MSR Pocket Rocket 2 to see how well it performed!

Ha good video lads and a great effort. The MSR pocket rocket 2 concentrates power in a solitary area if turned up too high so it boils awater through a kettle etc as fast as possible. When cooking in a pan it's better to use a good amount of oil and heat it slowly so there is a more even distrubtion of heat. Great video though, thanks for sharing the experience and appreciate the effort it took to make.
Thanks for the tips, I'm not the best at cooking haha. Sometimes it can be a little too hot and concentrated even when turned down.
@uptosummit_ no problem, we all live and learn mate. At least you're brave enough to get 9th there and do things like this. It takes guts mate. Keep winning and stay safe 👍💪💪
@@TheGreatRaymondoOutdoors Thanks I appreciate the kind comments mate!
Those steaks look small but im a fat ass American.
Haha I'll have to try find some American sized steaks next time
I am cooking home made soup on it while watching this 😂
Haha, hope it was good, what flavour was it?
@@uptosummit_ was amazing! Just carrots and peas and veggie broth and salt and this Vegeta, Croatian spice for food with veggies. Plus fresh soup pasta
@@BushcraftEurope Sounds great!
Can I cook chicken with potato and rice for one person lunch or dinner? I want to use it for my night camping
It's definitely not perfect for proper cooking but it can be done. I would recommend getting precooked chicken just to be safe. I've cooked rice on it before and also instant mash potato.
Next time - do a stew, you’ll have an easier and better time cooking
Thanks for the advice, I'll keep that in mind for next time.
You should have shown the part where you had to throw your pan in the bin. These things are only good for water and soup if you stir constantly. They are simply too hot in a concentrated area
Yes, that is one issue I've found over time. Do you have any recommendations for a burner with a wider heat spread?
@@uptosummit_ Soto windmaster has good simmer control and Primus classic stove has wider flame
Sure if you use sub par pans, I've had great success cooking steak, potatoes and tacos on my pocket rocket. The trick is using well seasoned, uncoated, carbon steel pans or cast iron and learning your simmering control.
👌
👍
Appreciate the effort to share your adventures. Your hidden cave vid was great. Nice to see someone trying to do more than boiling water with a pocket rocket. Little tip for the future. Turn down that heat! Lower and longer will get you better results for your next thick steak. Oh and try to avoid using metal on non-stick or you'll end up trashing the finish. Beautiful spot by the water. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the tips and glad you enjoyed the video!
Sick vid👌👨🍳
Appreciate it!
My jet boil minomo will put that cooker to shame
Not had the chance to use one but I've heard good things about them
