I Waited Years For This - Lake District Wild Camp
Today I’m camping on England’s 3rd highest mountain - Helvellyn, the highest I’ve ever camped. With winds forecast to be around 30mph it promised to be an interesting night. Aside from winds I’d have to complete over 12 miles and 3,000 feet of climbing making it one of my toughest wild camps yet. It wouldn’t be plain sailing, along the way I would encounter several challenges. As a reward for my hard work I was treated to some of the most beautiful scenery I’ve experienced in the Lake District. I've waited years for conditions like this and it didn't disappoint!

Most People FAIL This Small Lake District Mountain
Переглядів 6 тис.День тому
Today, I'm out in the Lake District visiting a mountain that most people fail to summit. Thousands of people climb this relatively small mountain every year. But many people don't realise that they haven't actually reached the official summit. It is even said that Alfred Wainwright himself failed to reach the true summit of this mountain. Wild Camper's RUINED This Mountain

Today, I'm out in the Lake District visiting a mountain that has been very popular across social media in recent years. Due to this many hikers and wild campers have been attracted to this fell. With that, a minority have not respected the area. In this video I will be heading up the mountain to see what evidence I can find of wild campers ruining this mountain. You Don't Need to Travel Far to Enjoy Nature

Today, I'm out in some very cold conditions. With frozen other paths and deep snow in places negotiating usually easy ground, would be tricky. I am exploring my local area today as I feel sometimes it's easy to forget the nature you have on your doorstep. I'll also be discussing my plans for 2025 in regards to hiking and camping. I Didn't Want To Do This Wild Camp
Переглядів 80121 день тому
You re-join me for day 2 of this wild camping adventure in the Lake District. On the previous day I completed around 10 miles and 3,000 feet of climbing. Today I'd have to complete exactly the same again - maybe even more. With temperatures barely above freezing, getting down would be treacherous. Today would test me, an ice cold swim, having to unpack all of my bag and strong winds battering m...

My COLDEST Wild Camp Ever - Freezing Lake District Summit Camp
Переглядів 1,6 тис.Місяць тому
Today's video I am out solo wild camping again. This is part 1 of this 2 day adventure in which I hike over 3,000 feet ticking off 4 wainwrights along the way. This is the coldest wild camp I've ever done and it was FREEZING... literally. It got down below 0 Celsius and as low as -3 or -4. I camped on a summit over 2,300 feet high, but would I be warm enough through the night? If you enjoyed wa...

Every video gets better and better. I have to say what a random selection of food! 😂
Just found your channel and great to see the younger generation walking the Lakeland fells …keep it going 🤟
Nice one You seem to be way more relaxed solo now 🙂 Well done 👍
Yeah, not worried about going solo now. The only thing is the nights are a bit long at this time of year👍
I think you're getting a hang of the titles and thumbnails mate! Keep up the good work you deserve the success and it's great to see your enthusiasm for the outdoors!
Yeah, I've definitely improved the titles on my last couple of videos. Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed!
im not good with heights either, ive done Sharps Edge a few times, and I have been stood at the bottom of Jacks Rake a couple of times but bottled it.....but I will get it done!! Nice vid lads
Thabks mate and I've not done Sharp Edge yet it's been on my list for ages. Take it nice and steady and you should be fine.
USA here..........hey..you cut the video short......FLAT tire???? hopefully not......thanks for the climb...great scenery ....and monster WIND...
Thanks and I completely forgot to include what happened with the tyre. It was a slow puncture, so luckily, I managed to make it home.
@@uptosummit_ fantastic
Another awesome video love the commentary!!!! Pen Y Fan was great when i went last year albeit very windy and poor visibility
Thanks mate and I'm still yet to do Pen Y Fan.
Another great video it has inspired me to get out into the lakes and start hiking with a view to wild camping in the better weather. Just out of interest what map system do you use to find your trails, is it a mobile app or just a paper map? Keep up the good videos....
Thanks I'm glad I could inspire you. I use the OSMaps app. On there, I plot the route, then download it before I set off.
That's a simple trip but it's a real achievement to camp up there on your own, and at this time of year. Great video and scenic footage too. Thanks. I need to get out there soon.
Thanks and yeah it can be tricky to get out in good weather this time of year.
great video helvellyn on my list when i come to the lake district in may what way did you come back down was it to wythburn car park
Thanks and I parked a little further down in a layby just past Swirls car park.
What do you think of the oex in conditions?
I think if I pitched it correctly, it would have handled it with no issues. Even with it pitched badly, it still held up.
Great video content yet again,👍🏼keep them coming mate
Thanks mate glad you liked it, I'll keep them coming👍
your best video yet. such eloquent commentary and brilliant filming. it's such a great thing to look forward to - your Sunday publications! Absolutely love what you are doing. keep them coming - please..!
Thank you for such high praise, I really appreciate it. I'll keep the videos coming👍
I live in the Lake District. Never get fed up of it or take it for granted. Done the wainwright's 4 times over, and get out walking/camping most weekends. It's very beautiful in all seasons. Feel very fortunate to live so close, especially when I speak to folk on the hills who have set off at 4am from down south somewhere. Great video, Helvellyn is a fantastic camping location if you don't mind the crowds and the onerous trek up 😅
Yeah, hopefully, one day I'll be able to live a bit closer. 4 times of the wainwrights is a solid effort. Glad you enjoyed the video and luckily Helvellyn wasn't really busy on this day.
👏👏👏 thank you for the video
No problem, glad you enjoyed!
Nice Vlog, Helvellyn or Pen Y Fan is what I am thinking in doing next for my wild camp . 🏔🎒
Thanks and I've never done Pen Y Fan, it looks amazing though.
Yet another brilliant trip , those views are out of this world, I’m so jealous of you lol
Thanks, and I know beautiful views, I got really lucky!
take some double gloves and a bag, I really wouldn't have left them there.
Good idea, I wasn't planning to do this mountain originally, so it wasn't something I'd thought of.
Have you ever thought that videos like yours draw in every Tom, Dick and Harry in who see it as a day out.
In every camping video, I make sure I mention leave no trace. There's not much more I can do. I made this video to raise awareness and stop this kind of behaviour. I hate it as much as you. If you have any other ideas to stop this issue, I'm all ears.
Did you do it this month? You didn't find snow on the fells? I will be in lakes next week so planning on whether I need crampons or not
This was around a month ago now. I was up helvellyn a week ago and most of the snow had melted. Only a few deep patches where the sun hadn't reached it. It was mostly avoidable, I didn't end up using my spikes.
It does not look all that. I did the route to Glyder Fach, from Pen y Pass. I will check it out. This looks like an exciting last problem to solve.
It's not very difficult if you've done scrambles before but for someone with little or no scrambling experience, it can be difficult.
It does not look all that. I did the route to Glyder Fach, from Pen y Pass. I will check it out
Fantastic work! The photography throughout was really good, along with the sunny weather. Stay safe👍
Thanks glad you enjoyed and will do👍
How do you get to know all the routes novice to this iv just purchased all my equipmnt for wild camping 😂
Personally, I use the OSMaps app. Premium allows you to download maps, so you can use offline. From there just plot routes and use google for route inspiration. It's also handy to know how to use a map and compass. Start off small and build yourself up to bigger hikes.
All trails is a great app also, give me a message if you want any route suggestions sending over
@rosswood5483 cheers Ross appreciate it justcwanna get into doin few miles walk then pitch up near a nice lake for the night lakes wales pennine moors anywhere really m8 it's all new to me haha
I live in Halifax and can't find this😂
Here's a link to the route on AllTrails. The waterfall should be marked on the route. Secret Waterfall and Priestley Green Circular on AllTrails www.alltrails.com/en-gb/trail/england/west-yorkshire/secret-waterfall-and-priestley-green-circular?sh=k8hc3u
I love the harthope valley and am hoping to go to linhope this weekend. That gift that keeps on giving! Thank you for sharing the views.
Yeah, it's a really nice area, I'd like to visit again some time.
Visiting in July any recommendations for trips apart from plitvice lakes as already got that on my list
Krka National Park is really good and closer than Plitvice, ferry to Brac, Omis is a seaside town surrounded by cliffs. If you look on my channel, I have videos on all 3.
@ ive scrolled some of those chanels already☺️omis looks fab too,ill be taking a look through & possibly book those trips☺️thankyou for responding
No problem, enjoy your trip!
Just found your channel and love the content, new subscriber. Ive done a few scrambles in my time and when looking at this it looks small and easy but I know that even only 10ft off the ground a slip could be fatal on such jagged rocks. Getting up a scramble is the easy part but getting down is 10 times harder. A little tip for you is this, next time you attempt something like this, pack about 20 or 30 foot of climbing rope. You can usually get something in Aldi orother places for about 10 or 15 quid. You can then use this to descend if your not too confident. Yes you lose the rope but 10 or 15 quid lost Vs your life is just priceless. Anyway, stay safe and enjoy.
Thanks, glad you're enjoying the videos. That's a good idea, I'll have to look at getting some ropes. Always better to be safe than sorry.
@@uptosummit_If you do get a rope make sure it is proper climbing rope and learn how to use it safely. A 30 meter confidence rope will cost you about £60. A cheap bit of rope from Aldi is not the answer.
Thanks for the advice and I definitely need to do some research. I don't know the 1st thing about using ropes.
I did this on Saturday and camped just after Gibsons Knott you made up for my lack of views
On a good day, the views from here are beautiful, shame you didn't get to see them.
Wainwright himself never topped it either, fella
I know, it's definitely a tricky little summit!
This is just for laughs?
No, many people do fail this mountain, including Wainwright himself.
@@uptosummit_ The hop up the rocks bit was a bit 'Bear Grylls' dramatic. Very funny, more like this please.
It's harder than it looks I bottled it because it looked harder to get down once up.
Yeah, it's small but definitely a tricky little climb.
Well done conquering your fears. Spectacular views, and great camera work from Adam too
Thank you and yeah Adams always getting the good shots of me haha
As long as they respect the area and bring their rubbish home leaving no trace , their supplies and equipment don’t matter
Yeah agreed👍
spent a day last month removing all the big fire pits and cleaning up all the rubbish, people have no respect it needs to be locked off for a year or two to let it all regrow. all city people with no respect for the outdoors.
Good on you for cleaning the mess others have made. I agree there has to be a solution as litter and fires seem to be increasingly common.
WOW! You are really improving your hiking technical skills 🥾🏔️🫡
Thanks, I'm slowly getting there. I just need to work on my fear of heights haha
That is not due to wildcampers...the true wildcamping creed is leave no trace. It is a bit like labelling the scum who ride on ebikes with no lights on pavement as cyclists.
I agree, they are wild camping but not following the ethos of wild campers.
well done, amazing if not heroic...! keep these videos coming - they are informative, interesting and at times very amusing.
Thanks, I'll keep them coming. I'm glad you're enjoying them.
Nice video and well done 👍
Thanks man👍
Another amazing walk , every time you say there’s a nice bit of water, I think he will be in there next , good work both of you
Thanks and I didn't fancy a swim in the dark haha
Great video! Some wicked shots
Thanks mate!
I enjoy wild camping and will always take my trash but one thing I will never do is take some other lazy c***ts rubbish back.
I always take my own stuff too, but I agree it's not mine or your job to clean up someone else's mess.
People lack respect for anything these days. drives me crazy.
Same here. Sadly, most people who do this will never have to deal with any consequences.
Great video. I really enjoyed backpacking the Lake District when I was there. We have the same problem here in California. I haven’t always, so glass houses and all. It really ruins an area to have wipes flying around. Great video, missing Lake District
Thank you. I think it's an issue in most popular places, unfortunately.
you were so right to abandon and a very mature decision. your comments are so true and thoughtful. such a superb video. many thanks again.
Yeah I was a little gutted at first but I made the right decision in the moment. Glad you enjoyed!
brilliant, sketchy at times on the waterfall but so nice to see you taking Gabriel with you. it's a route I'll consider in the future. many thanks.
It's a fairly long walk, but definitely not short of excitement.
Well done 👏🏻 its so saddening to see that people do this , I guess some people just live like they live in their own homes 🐽🐖🐽🐖🐽🐖
Yeah, unfortunately, that's the case.
Sir, I really enjoy your videos, I'm a new subscriber for you and loved your Coledale horseshoe video. your honesty and openness is great. credit also needs to go to your mother for her food supplies! keep your videos coming and be yourself (as you have been!). really great and look forward to future adventures.
Thank you. I really appreciate the kind comments, glad you're enjoying enjoying the videos.
My wife and I were going up high in the nountains for a walk and camp. Within 1 metre of the road there was a human shit within 100 metres there was a large tent with people drinking qnd telling us they were seasoned wild campers. Thr next day we cane down and the tent was gone. There was a still smouldering fire with plastic burning which we had to extinguish. We had left flattened grass. They had left a feckin mss Peiple are absoluute c"*ts
Yep and it's you tubers like yourself that have made wildcamping so popular
What has that to do with responsibility? It doesn't matter how popular something is if the people spreading it are responsible. This is all down to feckin melts who don't care yet you want to blame the people who do care
There's nothing wrong with it being popular as long as people follow the rules.
Most You tubers are advocating Leave No Trace. The problem is that there is a large sector of society that are gobshites and think rules don't apply to them.
