For those saying this is a reformulated juice. I disagree. Calvin Klein issued bottles to the European market as EDT and not cologne but this was not reformulated. The "for men" is in all caps as the first formulation bottles all have. Second, as you have already discussed the built in sprayer is only on first formulation bottles. The best way to tell though is if it is a Calvin Klein Cosmetics Dist. Lastly the anamalic/civet note is strong in the original and if the bottle is in relatively good shape you will definitely smell it! I was there when it released and i can tell you with certainty that is a first formulation bottle. I own four OG first formulation bottles myself lol. Great review as always! Love my vintages from the Iconics to the most obscure. You should try to get your hands on an original Ralph Lauren Chaps for men and do a review on it! Just look for "cologne" and Warner/Lambert Dist.

Hi! Thanks for the info. Smells great to me! As for Chaps, I do have some of those original bottles, but I got them a few years before I started the channel. They're stored away for future rediscovery!

    Heyy there !
It was such a pleasure discovering your channel, the relaxed and unscripted style with which you talk about fragrances is soo enjoyable.
Vintage fragrances are a special love to me, a whole world and treasure in and of their own... a time machine really !
Happy to be here and watch it on the rise 😌
Here a couple of things when it comes to dating vintage Calvin Klein fragrances, specifically Obsession in this case:
    - The most important aspect is the distributor, since 1978 when they released their first fragrance (Calvin by Calvin Klein for Women a.k.a. Calvin Klein Red) up until 1989 is the first era under which Calvin Klein ran and functioned, the "Calvin Klein Cosmetics Corp." era, this way you'll know 100% it is the very iteration of the juice inside the bottle.
Considering it came out in 1986, the 1st edition would've lasted until 1989 (the one marketed towards women, the EDP, came out in 1985). Also, yes, that was the exact advertisement for this fragrance, everybody was naked and built like a Greek statue, Kate Moss amongst them, I just loved the bravado and audacity houses had before..
    - To dial down onto the year, you'll look out for the following:
+ It says 'Cologne Spray' above or below Calvin Klein on the front of the bottle, as well as in the middle of the sticker on the bottom in this order 'Obsession -> FOR MEN -> COLOGNE SPRAY'
+ The capital 'FOR MEN' on the front is also a sign of a very early version
+ When it comes to CK, the green dot was located on the box (back of it I believe), you were correct about the year 1992 is when it was introduced
All in all, that's it when it comes to Obsession for Men early/release years. That being said, you have a VERY nice bottle of it !
Couldn't see the distributor, however the other aspects indicate that it's most likely an extremely early 1990's bottle, probably right up until 1992 !
Your description of its smell also says that is quite likely the case !
In comparison to later versions (i.e. 1990's bottle, I have one from the 'Calvin Klein Cosmetics' era), it's "sweetness" is much richer and spicier in a way, it's the mature forefather to everything that comes after it. Smokiness would be a good word because it has a certain sensuality to it, the later renditions are veeery nice but it's noticeable that the '80s is the big boy bottle (people's mention of a much greater presence of oakmoss and lack of cinnamon also plays a role).
Hope that helps and it's always a pleasure gushing about Obsession, it's my love and passion, #1 !
Cheers to future videos and conversations !

Now THIS is an awesome comment. Thanks so much. Everything about this bottle says 1986 except for the "Cologne Spray" part. The sticker shows "Obsession-For Men-Eau De Toilette-Spray/Atomiseur". We know it's definitely pre-1992. Calvin Klein Cosmetics Corp. is there.

@@eaudetreasure Heyy, I'm soo glad you appreciated the comment, it was actually quite relaxing to write !
I do my best to help and share knowledge where I can, so as to also, as I love to say.. decoding the fragrance hahaha
That's awesome then, if it says Cosmetics Corp. you're all set !
Truth be told, that period for Obsession for Men lasted only 4 years, so we could maybe date it to 1988 or 1989, certainly as you said before 1990 !
I hope you're absolutely savoring in it, an eternal love it is ❤️

I noticed this one smells a little bit like Paul Sebastian Fine cologne for men. Did you find that, as well?

    • @micked_pirateclimber367
      @micked_pirateclimber367 2 роки тому +1

@@eaudetreasure Unfortunately I can't exactly relate on that note seeing as I've never smelled that Paul Sebastian fragrance 😶
What I can comment though, when talking about similiarity, is a perfume that has a vibe akin to that of Obsession for Men. It doesn't smell the same at all, can't say the very smell reminds me of it but the feel and warmth of it.
The fragrance at hand is: Papillon Artisan Perfumes "Bengal Rouge" by the amazing Liz Moore ❤️

I remember the early ads for Obsession. Scent wise I thought it was like more refined Polo Green minus the Pines. That was from back in the day when as kids we thought "that Calvin Klien stuff has pharamones to drive girls wild!"

This is one of the few 1st formulas i DONT prefer. Oddly to me it was mastered in the 90s. In 90s it was potent but more orange amber sparkle in the overall composition. 80s FOR MEN is much flatter and darker. No sparkle if that makes sense. Not bad but so different. Similar to how the polo green warner is flatter than the 1985 Cosmair. Cosmair added more clove and smoke. Steer clear of modern day its like cinnamon water.

I found a very early coty Version of obsession that is very long lasting and almost exactly like the first Version. Things you have to look for: the dark brown cap is made of 2 pieces. You can See a rand where the old Version has a gold line, the newer versions do not have that cap. The words coty Prestige and oder Infos are lasered at the bottom. The newer ones have a sticker. And last but not least the color. It must be golden. If you have that like saffron yellowness in the bottle shimmering, than its the good coty Version that where produced not very long. And after that came 4(!!!) Reformulations where st the end you have this light cinnamon water that is almost transparent. I saw it for....16€ for 120ml. So come on!!!

I just saw a display of Bath and Body Works colognes for men, they had three different ones there. Mahogany and Teakwood, Noir, ad another one. It wasn't Oak, so I don't know what it smells like. As for Obsession smell-alikes, I would say Paul Sebastian Fine Cologne (same type but not the same scent). Some other "maybe" smell-alikes are Jovan Sex Appeal, new Drakkar Intense, Elizabeth Taylor Passion for Men, and Obsession EDP (but I don't think it's that close).
