"Apologies, the nines are being children at the moment" has surpassed Nigel Owens telling two players "You're both acting very immature, just get on with the game" as my favourite referee quote of all Time.
Great to see another rugby video from your good self.

also the fact two of the players agreed one saying "When are they not though?" and then another payer "was it Amy?"

At 3min 38 seconds the commentator is incorrect when he says it’s a bad example of refereeing. The person saying 3-2-1-minus 1-minus 2 isn’t the referee! It’s a player on the defending side being sarcastic!

It is not just the referee being captured, but some great sledging between players.

It’s great having the miced referees simply when it comes to big decisions you hear the explanations and what they are exactly looking at to come to their final conclusion .. do you still get those that disagree yes but hey it’s interesting how referees view actions differently in the moment

2:26 this was fun, 6 Nations, Italy abusing a loophole in the Offside Law, at the time, a Tackle and a Ruck where two separate phases of play, by not contesting the ball, they didn't form a Ruck, meaning there was no offside line. So Italy could line up as close to the English line as they wanted since they technically weren't offside. The Law was changed to it's current form (Tackle forms the Ruck) almost immediately after the game.

For 2:23, I don't see anyone explaining in the other comments, so a complex little bit of rugby loophole that Italy exploited during the 2017 6 Nations : basically, offside position and offside foul exists in Rubgy, but, just as it happens in football, it is only 'measured' at certain events : passing in Football, and for Rugby - when a kick is made, when a ruck is formed, when a maul is formed.
But what is a ruck, by the letter of the Law (at that time)? It is when, after a completed tackle, at least one player from each team comes to contest the ball. And therein lies the loophole. By *not* contesting the ball at tackles, Italy denied the creation of a ruck, and thus prevented the existence of offside lines. As such, Italian defenders were free to go beyond the tackler-tacklee pair to interfere with their opponent's passing lines.
It was irregular, but not illegal, and very unexpected, so I don't blame the player for asking. Should Romain Poite have answered something else? Maybe, maybe not.
That loophole has been closed since. (And sorry in advance if you already knew - in any case, it could be of help to the passing viewer)

the referee at 5:41.. It must be me, because with how fast he's saying "mate, that's the way it is", it sounds like he's saying "mate, I knit sweaters!"

At Twickenham, and I assume other stadiums, you can get a reflink in the grounds. Its a radio linked to the ref channels with builtin headphones. Theyve been around ages and let you listen to the refs mike

Football (Soccer) should allow the ref mic to be heard. It would soon cut down the player abuse, help supporters understand decisions and prompt similar at grassroots. The same for VAR - let fans hear it.
A line from me in a recent game when a scrum half kept yelling for me to look at his interpretation of foul play but missed the fact the ball was available for him to play and lost possession "My eyes work fine but yours could do with some work I think...." Didn't hear from him again.
When are we doing a video together Rob? TMO vs VAR?

Hey Razor, umpiring has to be one of the toughest jobs in sport, you cop so much crap, from players and fans, I always say the less we notice the umpires the better, but sometimes we do get to see the funny side and get to see a personality, some of our umps develop an ego and just want screen time and that is wrong, bit of a double edged sword having microphones and cameras every bloody where.

Of course us refs want a quiet game, but when players misbehave, we have to deal with them.

It would be good to hear your thoughts on the report out today about the abuse suffered by football referees in England.

    • @RobReacts1
      @RobReacts1  Рік тому

Well I was one of those refs who was phycially abused last April. It has pushed me even further away from the game. I have reffed about 4 games since and will be stopping fully at the end of the season. I have been concentrating more on my Lawn Bowls instead.
The FA, FIFA, IFAB and County FAs dont care and dont want to change things and therefore wont implement the changes needed.

Rugby's a very hard game to referee in terms of how complex the rules are, and I wonder would the game benefit from having multiple officials like American football. Rugby refs don't get nearly as much abuse from players or fans as football refs do, but there does seem to be an element creeping in from football of coaches undermining them before and after games. Rassie Erasmus, South Africa's director of rugby, makes Jose Mourinho look like a choirboy on that front. I hope his antics don't spread.
Marler's a wind-up merchant. He reminds me of Robbie Savage, who I think only got one red card in his whole career, but was very good at provoking opponents into doing something rash and getting themselves into trouble.

@RobReacts1 fair enough you are entitled to your opinion but if if you look a little deeper you will see he is nowhere near the bully type you feel he is. As an example check out his frienship with a young man called Ewan Laws. As I previously said he is a bit of a clown, a bit of a dick but I really don't think he is a bully.

@RobReacts1 I'd also add that on the 3 comments made by Marler, you dismissed them because it was Marler and your preconceived opinion of him. Not really a far reaction of 'The Best Ref Mic Quotes...' is it.
