Excellent level of detail, I particularly appreciate showing exactly how the engine cover and fans pieces are removed and then exactly how they are reassembled. Explaining how to seat the oil filter properly was good. Also liked the step-through of how to reset the oil change reminder. Great job, much appreciated.
Thank you!! I followed exactly what you did on my 2016 911 black edition. Perfect and easy!! I also bought the car soft and reset the message. Excellent video!!
Great video love your narration Doing your own oil change is like changing your babies diapers! Great bonding with the car, not to mention the satisfaction of doing it yourself
Great video; Thank you! 👍🏼 👍🏼 When you’re topping off the oil (1/2 quart @ a time, engine is warmed up, etc)… does the car immediately register/ display the new level after turning the engine back on? Thx again! 👍🏼
Thought the same, although it is easier to do than I expected. The torx screws are easy to remove, the bumper weighs next to nothing. The lights where not difficult to do. I found that the air filters do not get as dirty as in other cars I have owned. Wondered if the distance from intake was the reason.
It’s not as hard as a porsche but I do the work on my 2002 325i myself, keep in mind, I hate working on it with a passion but I love driving the little thing.
You made all looks simple and effortless, thank you for your unbelievable brilliant tutorial video. Indeed, Porsche dealership charges outrageously absurdly overpriced for this simple oil change. Once again Thank You, sir.
Excellent and very informative video. Ontario Porsche in So CA wanted $792 to change the oil & filter on my 2014 991 Turbo S. Ridiculous. I am now going to do it myself. Thanks much.
Great video! Might also want to measure out how much oil was drained and then replace with the same amount. Then check the electronic oil quantity level after the service. I over filled my 991.1 once on a DIY oil change - no damage. Whew!
37 Ft. Lbs is the torque setting that you see recommended for the oil drain plug - but you really should go with 19 Ft. Lbs instead. Many references to that on the Rennlist forum.
Can you change the filter if you only remove the fan on the right side? It looked like there was enough room to remove the filter cap without having to remove the air box in the center and the fan on the left side. That would make this job even easier. Also, any reason why you’re using 5w-40 instead of 0w-40? I thought the base 991.1 calls for 0w-40 oil. I know there isn’t much difference between the two, but wondering if you’re using 5w-40 for a reason? Thanks
Great step by step, thank you. I'm wondering ..... at 05:26, the little plastic point, sometimes become ''brittle'' and they broke (don't ask me how I know ;-) ) so to prevent that, I usually put a little dab of grease in the female part so they are very easy to remove next time. Thank you again for your time of making video. Cheers
I've done oil changes in 997's with no issues but was always a little nervous about all the new covers on the hidden engine of the 991. This video made me realize it's also a breeze. Thanks for taking the time to make this. Now on the hunt for a 2013-2015 991!
people need to stop equating "dark oil = bad oil", it doesn't. Your engine oil will go dark shortly even after you put in fresh oil, so being dark doesn't mean shit...
Brilliant tutorial. Great details. Wish me luck! One question, how come you don't just drive up onto the rhino ramps? Also, any opinion on race ramps? I've also seen people using two jacks and back up jack stands. What's the safest?
Great and thorough video about an important maintenance. I live in Fl and I change the oil in May just before the big heat comes in so the fresh oil can deal with the high temp. better.
Your instructions and video is absolutely perfect! Perfect pace, perfect instructions. Anybody can change their oil by following this step by step. Thank you.
I bet you that your local Porsche Dealership hate you for posting this. They hate me because I replaced 4 TPMS and got $6,000.00 tips. Dealership quoted over $90,000.00 just for TPMS. I done it for much less & more. Have this client & many other for life. * 4 TPMS batteries * Rotates tires/Nitrogen Aired * Oil/Filter/Air Filter * Brake Flushed * Transmission Flushed
I appreciated good honest mechanics. Maybe porsche has so much overhead to be profitable. However, doesnt mean we have to pay it. I have a hard time finding private shops that will work on 911's close by.
@@how2togo Finding a good honest mechanic is like finding a good doctor or an attorney. I and my daughter play around with Porsche. These cars like Bugatti & Ferrari are not bad to work on. And even dealerships rare see a Porsche 959. That TPMS is way way overpriced. Don't be surprised that your TPMS batteries are going to die soon. Lucky the part doesn't cost as much as the 959. You can save money & just replace just the battery. Which I do to many. This way I & my daughter don't have to buy the tool to program it.
I have a small lip from my driveway into the garage. If I put 1” thick plywood on the floor of garage, I can park back wheels on it and it lifts the car enough that I can remove drain plug without having to use the ramps or jack. Saves a little time. I have a 2014 C4S and the process is identical to one shown in video. Great work!
I like to have my car level when doing an oil change to get most of the oil out since the oil rad is out front. In my case with a sloped driveway, lifting the rear gets the car pretty well level.
Excellent video! Question though, at minute 1:02 your letting the car warm, what’s the deal with the ticking noise? I recently passed on a 991.1 because I couldn’t get over that very same noise… thanks again for sharing.
I’ve got the same noise, I guess that’s normal. I read many complaints about that ticking noise. I’m gonna show mine to a specialist to check if it’s normal and not something else …
Great video. I looked at a 2012 911 S a few weeks ago at a Mazda dealer in Buford, Ga. I've never owned a Porsche before. They wanted $88k. It had 35k miles but I knew that seem too high. I checked KBB and with those miles. It was worth $63k. @@how2togo
Very informative. I don’t plan on changing the oil myself, but if I did this is the perfect video to watch.
Literally perfect. Cadence, detail, camera work.
Bravo sir!

Awesome, so glad it helped.
Very detailed, you saved hundreds of dollars, Porsche dealership wouldn't like this lol.
This is by far the most thorough and detailed oil change video for 991.1 on UA-cam! Thank you so much for sharing!👍
Very nice and detailed oil change video. Thank you.
Excellent video as I just bought a 991.1.
Nice, you'll enjoy it. So far easy to service. 40k is coming up with spark plugs.

Yes
Why does the oil have to comply with A40??
So every time you change the air filter you have to pull out the rear bumper? That the most stupid engineering I ever seen

If you buy an expensive car and cannot do the maintenance and repairs yourself, then you deserve to pay through the NOSE

heed comment at 12:33... if not, you will definitely be cleaning up the garage floor...for some reason i know this as a fact...

Oil change done & that will be a total of 1500. 😂

Very thorough...didn't know you had to have a diagnostic tool to reset. Will be attempting this service soon.
Why didn’t you back onto the ramps?
I find it to be easier to just jack the car up amdnslip them under the wheel. I'm concerned I could overshoot.

I find it hard to drive up them. They slide and I'm concerned I'll over shoot them. A bit harder with an automatic. Good luck you can do it.
excellent video ! I would also say, that I think your voice is very good quality and tone for all kinds of narration 👍
Nice floor - poured concrete with crushed rock for texture?

Great video for the diyers,… but for the air filters you have to remove the entire rear bumper…..
You got it.
Have a Like 👍 for "motor booty" lol 😆
Fantastic video! Very well done.
Nice video. Putting fragile expensive parts of the floor, at least in my garage, is risky. I'd probably step on them.

Great presentation thanks, have you tackled changing the air filters?
I did post a video for that. Search 911 air filter

The weight of the car is so balanced that when you lift it with the jack it lifts both wheels. Daaaammm
Such a good video. Thank you.
Only thing missing cut resistance gloves which would protect you hands
Ballpark what would a dealership charge for this service?
They quoted me $600
650 bucks !!! And they will always add few more extra problems to steal your hard earnings cash.
My car does not have the purple connector for the diagnostic tool

It takes 7.9 quarts
