    Love your humor! Have an ostomy 12 years. Knew about most tips and have used a shower cap but your adaption of cutting the bottom is awesome. Never thought of that! I usually twisted it around and tied with a hair clip and often had a puddle in the bottom.This is so much better!

I'm not perfect, but I'm trying to do better with making this channel a real priority. Your mom is incredibly strong and amazing to take on a new life with an ostomy at her age. I wish her all the best! Let me know if there's anything specific you'd like me to talk about. Also, hopefully you've already found Maggie's channel "Let's Talk IBD". Yes, I want to hear the chicken bone story! 😂 Seriously, I loved the video! I’m a year into having and ileostomy and 99% of what I’ve learned has been through UA-cam videos - especially Maggie’s IBD channel. I’m new to yours and I loved it! My most significant takeaway from your video is the dog poop bags! I never even thought of that! They never give you enough trash bags with the ostomy bags and I’m always trying to figure out what to do. That was an amazing tip! I also love your presentation style and your humor! Keep it up! ❤

    Hi Nate, I love the idea of the shower caps ! I actually use " press and seal" which does a good job. As far as odor the best spray is Mediaire. It also comes in travel size. The unscented is the best, the scented smells like mouthwash. Chicken bone 😊

    I subbed ya! Wonderful attitude, clear presentation, experienced advice, humor. I've had my colo for 18 mos. and recently found a way to use a shower stool I had to sit in front of my commode, and using the dampening effect of some toilet paper, empty without squatting as I had been doing for more than a year. I wish I'd had my surgery 10 yrs ago. I feel better that I have in that long.

The internet can be so harsh, so I don’t want to take a chance discussing things I don’t know much about 😅 That’s an interesting technique with the shower stool. Maybe someday I’ll invest in one. Good luck on your ostomy journey. There’s a lot of information on the internet these days! I’ve had mine for 14 years, so I taught myself most things.

    These are some great tips and some things I hadn't heard before. I'm going to start keeping some grape juice on hand. I am a water drinker but have kept Sprite in the house as I was hospitalized for one blockage and I pray I never have to do that again. Now when I feel a start of a stomach ache I will drink a small Sprite. Don't know if it's as good as Coke, but so far I've been good. Thanks for sharing! Looking forward to more videos! 💜

    • @natehadlock
      @natehadlock  2 місяці тому +1

      Thank you! Sprite is great, I’ve just had some good experiences with grape juice too. Mixing them together is tasty as well lol. Water is always the way to go for a main drink though. One summer of intense heat, hard manual labor, and too much Mountain Dew lead to a terrible kidney stone episode for me. 😅

  • @linden5576
    @linden5576 6 днів тому

    I do not have an ostomy my mother-in-law had one. Years ago.
    I have spastic bowel, celiac disease. I’ve been battling this since about 40 years old and I’m 63 now I come across the doctor here on UA-cam and his name is Dr. Berg.
    He says to use this product called, TUDCA 500 mg with OX bile 125 mg. The brand name I use is called, nature Bell. This product comes in a capsule and you take between one and three with every meal specially if you eat a fatty meal! I find that I really only need one with each meal because I don’t eat much fat, but you have to adjust your eating habits, and you know as you go With this product. It gives the end of the digestion needed to digest food. I can no longer digest food properly because I no longer have a gallbladder! And if you don’t digest the food, not only is it extremely painful, but it causes a lot of problems in the final results, and throughout the whole process. Because you won’t if you’re not digesting your food, your body can’t absorb the nutrients! So this is great whether you have a gallbladder or not it aids in digesting your food. If you don’t get your food chewed up I don’t get mine chewed up very well and even when I do there’s always gonna be some that doesn’t break down some food that doesn’t break down and so does the trick, have no food. Whether or not you have a gallbladder is irrelevant, if your food is not breaking down or you’re not chewing it well enough this product is in breaking it down. So that goes for people who may be missing teeth can’t chew their food properly or whatever! So y’all might want to try this I buy mine on Walmart, but I believe that doctor Berg sells one of his own. He has a website. So go for price!
    Also, I wanted to mention that I tried buying the product individually. It’s a little bit hard to find individually and getting the right milligrams but I find that the more the harder was on my system and that’s just my personal experience so buying this exact product I mentioned above is the perfect amount for me. Everybody needs to adjust their own. You can buy these products individually, go talk to Dr. Berg. He can help you figure out digestive issues.👍
    I think eventually down the road probably by the time I’m 70 and seven more years I will be in the same situation as people who put out these videos just like your video here. I think it’s a matter of time for me because I’ve been battling this a long time, putting off ever having to have a stoma and colostomy. But now that I’m retired, my husband passed away, my adult child lives here. I don’t have the pressures that the younger people have trying to date go to the beach. Do all these things because I’m older. So that’s a plus for me.
    And my main concern with ever having to have a stoma is bag explosion, and the fact that a bag could fill up constantly and just be a real pain for someone like me specially when I my memories, not that good and I tend to be a lot slower than I was 20 years ago. The last thing I want to be as a burden to my adult child who help me.😢
    Also, I wanted to ask you a question Nate, why are so many young people having colostomies? Is are they all due to cancer? What’s causing this huge uptick in this condition I had never heard of anybody having this condition growing up.
    Back in the 70s it was teeth. Everybody was getting their teeth pulled because they wanted straight teeth so they all got dentures. Then you got into the 80s, and the 80s were all about women were getting hysterectomy hysterectomy hysterectomy, hysterectomy! They wanted to do that with me and I told him no and thank God I never had it done because now I’ve went through menopause and I don’t have any of those problems .
    Came into the 90s , and I really don’t remember what it was for the 90s rad offhand.
    But then we started the 2000s and everybody was getting their gallbladder out being pushed by the doctors. All these things were pushed by the doctors! I had mine now I knew several friends had theirs out. My son‘s boss had it I mean it I can tell you I knew at least 30 people that had their out Back then I even know more now but they’re not taking out as much as they used to. Another one was the appendix everybody was having their appendix out. Oh, you don’t need it. It’s fine yes you do. You need every organ in your body, you need every organ in your body and if you don’t have it, then you’re gonna have issues that your body is not gonna be the way it was, you’re gonna have to take some supplements down the road or something to make up for it.
    What people don’t realize is until they research what are my organs and organs and what are their functions and what do we need those for! And you’ll see your spleen hold blood you’ll see that your appendix gets rid of infection. You lead your lip notes. you need all these things that are in your body , your body is not gonna function properly
    And that’s exactly what I’m hearing from all of these videos. I’m watching about people who have stomas and colostomies there’s things that triggered. You can’t just eat what you want so there’s always a downside so try to hold onto all of your organs for as long as you can always get third fourth opinions and hold onto your organs unless it’s a life or death situation! If it’s anything to do with the ovaries or uterus, you’re gonna go through menopause eventually make it through it just like I did menopause at age 54 all those bleeding issues all of this Annette and the doctors were trying to push it, and I wouldn’t do it and all of this is gone and when I get my check ups and ultrasounds which I’ve had everything is fine and dandy and normal. What happened? What happened to all of the endometriosis that I was having or they were claiming I was having on the side of my uterus? Did it just disappear when my period stop? Makes you wonder makes you wonder I’m so glad that I just didn’t believe everything. Doctor told me.👍
    A lot of foods that everybody’s eating now are all fake. A lot of it fake the eggs half the eggs aren’t real and I encourage everybody to try to grow a garden. If you can eat healthy by organic don’t just buy things from the stores buy things from the farmers markets and other places , eat good whole food and all this processed engineered food because this is what we have in our store now and then they all government wants to put us on all plant diet? Heck heck no I like to have roast some burgers don’t want engineered burgers I want real burgers!😅
    So a lot of our conditions, we have to look back into our family in our family history of health issues and at our diets because our insides wouldn’t be like they were if we weren’t putting food into it so we have to think about that. Me too that’s exactly what I’m thinking about . 🤔

    Hey - question for you. I know you wear the Stealth Belt and like that and I have seen several others talk about that. I am looking into getting a stoma guard so I can have the dome give room to my stoma for if I want to lay on my stomach to get a massage and even for when driving the car to keep the seat belt from pushing on it. I see that Stealth Belt has a stoma guard accessory. Have you tried that one? Or any one? And what do you think of it? Thanks!

    • @natehadlock
      @natehadlock  Місяць тому +1

      @@jenny_rice I’ve tried a stoma guard once. I didn’t do any activities that needed it, I just wanted to see what it was like. For actual protection, I’m sure it works well. I personally wasn’t a fan just because of my own obsession with needing to feel and check my bag a lot. It goes on your bag using Velcro that you stick to your bag first, so when it’s on, the guard gets in the way of me feeling things and when it’s off, the Velcro gets in the way of me feeling things. If I were to ever use one again, it would probably be a larger guard that is just attached to a separate belt. And sorry, I don’t know about using it to lay on your stomach. I’m not sure if the guard would end up just pressing into your abdomen or ostomy bag/wafer in a weird way. I should try the different options out again. It’s been years. It would definitely help with protection from a seatbelt! I guess you just have to try it and decide if it’s a nuisance or not the rest of the time you have it on.
      I follow a woman on tiktok who wears one all the time. It doesn’t look enjoyable to me, but she loves it! Lol

    Thanks Nate!! Why I haven't looked in Amazon, I have no idea!! 😅 I just ordered 5 small bottles for $24.51...which if I did the math correctly comes to only $4.90 per bottle. Where 3 small bottles comes to $5.35 each at $16.04 for 3 bottles. I empty my bag atleast 6 to 8 times a day, therefore I need a lot...😂
    Thanks so much Nate!! I needed this great news today!! Just got home from Gastroenterologist office where I was scheduled for a much needed EGD. Unfortunately the anesthesiologist could not access my chest port ( stuck me 3 times there ) lots of pain...no go!! Then him and a nurse tried to find a vein ... 4 more painful tries...with no luck!! I was on the table with that mouth piece in mouth and they decided it was a no go!! Really aggravating!! They said I will need to have it done at the hospital!! But...they didn't even set it up, nor give me paperwork so I can get it scheduled!! My surgeon has to do my colonoscopy at the hospital as well...not scheduled yet either!! My calprotectin is 303 and no one cares!! 😢😢

      I’m glad you found a good deal! My bottles last me a really long time, because I only use them when I travel or visit friends houses. That appointment sounds so frustrating! I’m sorry for all the pain and inconvenience! Hopefully things will all get sorted soon and you’ll get the care you need.
