One thing with this system is it's easier to reduce your handicap than increase it. Which is great as it's always your best set of scores, rather than and average of all your scores. Which encourages people to play golf, come part of a community, and stay fit, all major positives.

Very informative thanks. I played only one comp all last Year. A Bogey which I won with a +3 score. Second place was +1. I was cut from 14.1 to 13.7 immediately on the old UK system. In November my club applied theWHS and cut me 5 shots yes 5 shots. I am now playing 9.0 will be 66 years old in a weeks time. My total competitions in the last 10 years is less than 10. Dazed and confused!! Ha

If you join a club with no handicap, can you play a different course, have it marked by a member of that club, then submit that score for handicapping purposes?

As a golfer with a 54 handicap, I am pleased with the high ceiling that has been offered. To be honest, I still need it a bit higher.

Thanks for this, I just had no idea how the slope rating worked and was calculated, I’m actually going down from 2.5 to 1.0 sadly. I either tend to score around or lower than my handicap or miles above it or NR. This means my best 8 are pretty low relatively

Still means when you come off the course you haven't a scooby what your score is and if you've been competitive or if your handicap index will go up or down. The question "how did it go today ?" is now totally irrelevant. But on the good side if I ever need to compete against players from different continents on a strange course in bad weather off different tees, we'll be covered

    • @thebents4864

Why do you need to know whether your handicap will be going up or down the moment you walk off the course? Everyone should just be trying the best that they can with each and every shot whenever they play, surely? As a matter of interest, your handicap is updated overnight and available to see (via the MyEG App) and the Competition score entry Apps (e.g. HowDidiDo, Club V1) show you how you are doing on the day in real time.

Great explanation thank you. Can you tell me which equation I use to find course handicap, I know I don’t have to but this is for my own calculator.
    9 holes
    H/Index + SSS - par x 2 / 2. =. (12.8 + 69 - (34 x 2)) / 2
    18 holes
    H/Index x slope rating / 113. (12.8 x 120) / 113 =
    OR is it
    H/Index x slope rating / 113 + course rating - par) 12.8 x (120 / 113) + (69.6 - 71) =

I have never played golf and your explanation is good. One thing i don't understand, how often do you adjust your handicap? So if i am a beginner and have a big handicap, could i cheat and use this bad handicap in 1 year when i am better at golf?

    • @charleswillcock3235
      @charleswillcock3235 4 роки тому

Your handicap would be recalculated each time you add a new round, however the handicap might stay the same if the scores you submit are very similar. There is no reason why you could not come down from 54 to 30 in 6 months and within 12 months say 24.

Not quite. On your scorecard in addition to entering your gross scores you will need to enter your Handicap Index as a minimum. When your scorecard is recorded the software will be able to calculate the the difference (or nett score as was previously the case). Other factors that will be included is the format of play, stroke play, stableford, etc. For individual stroke play this is 95% of your Course Handicap and is referred to as your Playing Handicap. Finally, there is an adjustment for PCC, playing condition calculation which replaces the old CSS.

It will be based on the qualifying rounds you have been submitting under your current system. Here in the UK that will be the last 20 rounds you have submitted under the Congu system since 1 Jan 2018 and if you don't have 20 cards your handicap index will be partially developed.

Then all four players need to work out their Course Handicaps and then work out their Playing Handicaps. Which you have to do to work out who plays of scratch and how many shots the other three players get. After all that we. I think this is a little bit of overkill.

I do not like this new system.
It was simple before with 90% of full handicap for competition.
My handicap was 10, always received 9 shots in competition.
I couldn’t careless what my average score is under the new system. I have not understood what you’ve said about the new system. You shouldn’t be playing golf if you have a 54 handicap.

I think if you can’t break 100 most people would be too embarrassed to play competitions. Eg approx 28 handicaps. If your off 54 you’re still taking the odd air shot so still at the novice stage.

@@brianwallington9744 I agree, all that is happening at my club is that the players with really high handicaps are winning everything. I think it should stay at a max of 28 and the goal is to start shooting round that when you first start. Or they should have a comp for over 28’s and one for everyone else.
