"Man on the line" album is a story....It starts with a heartbeat at the begining of the first song...then by the end of the last song, (Transmission Ends), it ends with a final flatline. Great album!
As a fan of heavy metal music the thought of listening to a Chris de Burgh album would normally fill me with absolute dread - however credit where credit's due. Man On The Line is a superb album and Transmission Ends is one of the most beautifully crafted songs of all time. Hard to believe that the same man could also come up with something as nauseatingly obnoxious as Lady In Red!
He could certainly lay on the schmaltz. I was a fan of his early storytelling minstrel type work. "At the End of a Perfect Day". and Spanish Train and other Stories", and Crusader, then I went onto other musical interests. But he can write, for sure.
I think the way to judge artists is on their best work. Inspiration comes and goes. And I'd put "Spanish Train", "Crusader", "The Getaway", and "Man on the Line" up there as great albums. At his best he could be spectacular.
Even when I was a little girl, something about this song always made me tear up every time I heard it; it still does, all these years later. Such a sad, lovely song.
Wow. Just Wow. A 12 string and a voice that only got better with age. It is so hard to reconcile that this timeless masterpiece and the utterly obnoxious piece of schmaltz called "The Lady in Red" came from the same mind.
Looking out on a windy sky, Watching seabirds as they fly, On a summer day, on a summer day; And now the sun is here to stay, The winter seems so far away, In the summertime, in the summertime; Sitting here with my love tonight, News is breaking from the south, On the radio, on the radio; Brother lead and sister steel, Are playing out their final scene, On the radio, on the radio; And when you lie beside me soft and quiet in the night, I often listen to the rhythm of your heartbeat giving life, You are so precious to me darling, it will always be that way, Until the final act is over, Until every man has spoken, Until every battle's done, Until the day, Transmission ends, transmission ends; Waiting up for a show tonight, Coming in via satellite, From America, from America; Whispers from some far-off place, Are drifting into outer space, From America, from America; And when I see a shooting star go flashing in the night, I often wonder if some other beings also see the light, And are they picking up our signals, As they spin of into space, Until the final act is over, Until every man has spoken, Until every summer's gone, Until every battle's done, Until the day, Transmission ends, transmission ends; Oh don't let it happen, don't let it happen, no, no, Darling, I'm always going to love you, Yes I'm always going to love you, Darling, I'm always going to love you, Until the final day, Until the final hour, I'm always going to be with you, Yes I'm always going to be with you, My love always going to be with you, Until the day comes down, The man is on the radio, "this is station planet earth, we're closing down, Transmission ends, Station planet earth is closing down, Transmission ends, transmission ends."
his best album..Man On The Line..1984...... he got the rock and AOR vibe plus emotional song writing... what a song...declaring his love until the end of time .end of .the earth........ brilliant
Lying on a dock in Belize, staring deep within the Milky Way as this song was playing, accompanied by a meteor shower, my wife beside me is still one off the best memory of my life. Thank you Chris.
Music from my childhood. He has some truly excellent songs in his early catalogue. Would recommend anyone to ignore his annoying hits and take a bit if a deeper dive. Plenty of unexpected gems to be found!
Love you chris youre so gorgeous,love you to the moon and back a billion times and back again forever,youre so special and you mean so much to me and u always will,all the best with rosanna and your twin grandsons may they grow up to be just as good and caring and beautiful as you chris xxxxxxxxxxxxxooooo
Hi Chris De Burgh, I saw you at the Gaiety and also at Rastatt. You are awesome in concert. I was also going to see you in Mainz, but i got lost and drove around Mainz for about 3 hours. By then it was too late to see the concert. Hopefully you will tour a little closer to California soon, so I dont have to travel the world to see you in concert. ( although i enjoyed Ireland and Germany very much!)
One of the top 10 CdeB songs of all time and Chris please please get The Munich Concerts released on DVD and what the hay get Chris De Burgh The Video onto DVD as well :) Carry On..........
One of my all-time favorite songs. It's too bad the album this was on has been relegated to the dust bin for being different from the rest of his catalogue. I was only a teen when it came out but I thought it was his best album.
Chris. First of all, I like every one of your songs. But this one happens to be a favourite of mine. I've seen you in concert twice, and if you come to Newfoundland again anytime, I'm gonna be sure to get a ticket.
WOW ....This is one of my top 10 songs, in the same bag with the Beatles and Peter Gabriel and Genesis ....I wish Chris had more albums like "Man on Line" ....that one is song after song a masterpiece. I often wonder If some other beings also see the light ....Transmission Ends ....Station Planet Earth ...is closing down. Transmission Ends.
It's mady by "The Guitar Factory" from Olando, Florida. But as far as I know they don't produce them anymore. Anyway the website is still available: www.guitarfactory.us/
66FWilde Thanks for the info. They are beaut guitars. I also enjoyed the simple accompaniment on that 12 string. The song doesn't need anything more. :-)
The most underrated artist of all time.
I agree 100%. I've thought this for a long time. He's a great songwriter. I think his biggest success has been in Germany.
So true ! More than 30 years I listen to him now Im 40 . I wish him health .
He is just the best
one of my fav artists of all time
I agree. I detest "The Lady in Red", but so what? He's written so much else that is SO good.
"Man on the line" album is a story....It starts with a heartbeat at the begining of the first song...then by the end of the last song, (Transmission Ends), it ends with a final flatline. Great album!
Thank you for this info as I always listen on shuffle x
Keep listening, the flatline starts to beep again at the very end.
I used to wait for those final beeps, to think keep hoping and carry on... It's not over yet. ❤
@@Cheordig Yup, just what I was going to say.
Most beautiful, poignant song - one of Chris' best songs

Even when I was a little girl, something about this song always made me tear up every time I heard it; it still does, all these years later. Such a sad, lovely song.
that will be the realisation of the truth in the lyrics possibly coming true
Very nervous for future. Very dangerous times. Don't think we're doing enough to help Ukraine
Don't believe a word of it. There are dark forces at work
My favourite song of all time!! Love this version with the big bridge - just magical!!!
I cannot say in words what this song means to me. It speaks to me in my darkest hours. Thx Chris !
If I could only hear one song ever again, it would be a toss-up between the album version of this or Crusader

Station planet earth is closing down... transmission ends... transmisson ends...
Looking out on a windy sky,
Watching seabirds as they fly,
On a summer day, on a summer day;
And now the sun is here to stay,
The winter seems so far away,
In the summertime, in the summertime;
Sitting here with my love tonight,

You are so precious to me darling, it will always be that way,
Until the final act is over,
Until every man has spoken,
Until every battle's done,
Until the day,
Transmission ends, transmission ends;
Waiting up for a show tonight,
Coming in via satellite,
From America, from America;
Whispers from some far-off place,
Are drifting into outer space,
From America, from America;
And when I see a shooting star go flashing in the night,
I often wonder if some other beings also see the light,
And are they picking up our signals,
As they spin of into space,
Until the final act is over,
Until every man has spoken,
Until every summer's gone,
Until every battle's done,
Until the day,
Transmission ends, transmission ends;
Oh don't let it happen, don't let it happen, no, no,
Darling, I'm always going to love you,
Yes I'm always going to love you,
Darling, I'm always going to love you,
Until the final day,
Until the final hour,
I'm always going to be with you,
Yes I'm always going to be with you,
My love always going to be with you,
Until the day comes down,
The man is on the radio,
"this is station planet earth, we're closing down,
Transmission ends,
Station planet earth is closing down,
Transmission ends, transmission ends."
Thank you ..❤
