I get the feeling that Alan and Mimi are as disappointed in the modern world as I am
I liked it more when they were depressed. Led to albums like Long Division and The Curtain Hits The Cast
Secret Name is probably a personal favourite and Lullaby is still a shining star in their catalogue. It's interesting to me that Low seem to release two albums at a time; each two albums they come out with seem to evolve or strip down the previous attempt. Long Division felt like a continuation of I Could Live in Hope, Secret Name felt like a more experimental Curtain Hits the Cast, and so on. This album is looking to be a more intense Ones and Sixes to me.
DomWrath I completely agree with this observation. Long Division and I could live in hope are basically the same album. Lullaby is their favourite song of mine till date, it's probably my favourite song ever period. Have you heard the live performances from One More Reason To Forget?
Yeah I have a CD copy of that, very good blend of their early work. Their collab with The Dirty Three, in the fishtank vol 7, is very underrated.
I know what you mean though, I have a vivid memory of disappointment when I first heard The Great Destroyer. It was a massive leap from Trust and I wasn't ready for it and it took ages to grow on me. I still think that's one of their weakest albums but I appreciate the big push that lead to some of their greatest tracks (Death of a Salesman, Breaker, DJ, Just Make it Stop, to name a few). This new album is coming out right on time for me because this is the type of music I'm embracing right now, am very hyped for it personally. Still hope they come back a bit to their roots in the future as well.
