You may well be the only person in the entire World still using this phone as their daily driver, and probably one of a tiny percentage of BlackBerry users in general. Impressive to think about. I used the earlier model as my work phone and hated it, the OS just had too much bloatware. No idea if this later model has the same issue. Eventually swapped it out for a spare 5S I had.
I own a BlackBerry Torch! It garnered attention from the other students at my highschool, among the boring old iPhones and Samsungs. Camera doesn't work, 1/3 of the keyboard doesn't work, but for talk and text, It does the job quite well.
Nice to see you keeping the Blackberry, really unique phone. Hope you enjoy it more, and yes, dual sim is really good since even though most phones have 1 normal sim and digital one, with digital ones you some times have to go though proceses than just taking it out from your old phone and putting it on the new one.

I still have my blackberry curve. Sure the rubber sides has since disintegrated but still alive. BTW, if you want a phone that can take 2 physical nano simcard plus a micro SD card and has a decent camera for taking pictures, may I recommend the midrange Realme series phone. My 2023 Realme 11 4G has all that good stuff. Only downside are the blaotware that can either be un-installed or disabled if you don't want them. I also had to install Poweramp as my music player because the builtin music player wasn't as good as the Samsung music player and it also had ads running on it. After a bit of cleaning (it's crazy how the first order of business you have is to clean your phone and get rid of useless aps after buying it) it now runs pretty well. Good cellular connectivity as well.
I got really tired of having the connection port on my phones get clogged up with pocket lint, so I started using magnetic charging cables. Not only is it quite handy to charge with, but the adaptor bit stays inside the port and reduces wear and tear from repeated plugging and unplugging, and keeps the lint out as well. I figure that even if anything goes amiss with it, replacing the mag cable is cheaper and less hassle than replacing the charging port. About the only downside is that you need to unplug the adaptor when you need a data connection (usually Android Auto in my case) but I think that it's well worth it.
I get the notion about the Blackberry being sufficient and useful, with 2 SIM cards and whatnot. but admit it: one of the reasons you stick with it is that it's just cool 😁. it's red, it has a physical keyboard, looks unusual, has a collector's value. just a hella cool phone!

Unfortunately I had to replace my Moto G5, a functionally similar phone I dailied as while cheap it was made very sensibly. It still works and I didn't mind it's Android 7, the UI on video being near identical. But the 2GiB of RAM were just too little to keep up with the apps I do use on it, it really hit a wall and became unusable. Now I moved to a Hisense A5 CC Pro Color, a Chinese e-Ink phone I took a gamble on importing. And I could not be happier with it, managed to work around the Chinese Android well and it's been less annoying to fight than the Google flavour. Of which the e-Ink optimised interface is actually nice too, though most notably media playback notifications have a major contrast issue. It's headphone jack also got some proper attention, it having a decently beefy and good DAC&Amp behind it that drives even studio headphones well. Not to mention the elephant in the room, the e-Ink screen. While the colour version of this is even more compromised, it manages to be pleasant to look at in ALL lighting conditions. To the degree of a light theme in total darkness being more pleasant than a dark theme on that G5, which got decently dim already. Future-proofing wise, for now even my banking and government identifying apps work on it. While a bit involved I think I will be able to replace the battery on it once it wears out and with some effort I see myself soldering on a new charge port if needed too. And the fricking thing has 6GiB of RAM, along with 256GiB of also MicroSD expandable storage. That's beyond plenty for my needs, I made do with the 16GiB of the G5 expanded with a 64GiB card just fine still.
Nice! I get questions about my 2nd car, a 2001 Chrysler Sebring Convertible Limited that I bought new back in 2001. The car runs great at 23 years old. It looks great too and only has 120k miles on it. When the questions come up, my simple answer is this. The car is paid for, it's fun, the top comes down (original top) and I'll have it until it can no longer be fixed. Love driving a convertible when I can.
I use to daily drive a Key one it was pretty good but I had to get tif of it as it was locked to AT&T and later picking up a flip 3 for $50 as they tend to drop a ton after a while
I have a Key 2. It sits on my desk because it’s black and my desk’s aesthetics are black. It’s sleek and modern looking. Mine is in excellent condition. I can’t set it up on my carrier, I’ve tried, so I figure keeping it on the desk as a way to complete my decor is better than getting rid of it
Are you not worried about the lack of security updates since it is on Android 8? I still have my KEYone and would love to use it again for fun, but it scares me about the security thing.

You don't need to install a new type-c port, you just need to clean the dust from the old one. Through all the years im fixing the phones i never saw a worn out type-c port. Just a little bit cleaning and its working like new.
Fun tip for anyone trying to source batteries and hoping to avoid the sea of fake "OEM" batteries. Polar cell in Germany manufactures decent replacement batteries, as does cameronsino under the x-longer brand. Much better than risking a probably crappy "OEM" replacement battery
the charging port issue happened to my s22+, used a needle to clean it up, it was better than te sim ejecting tool, saved me a lot of money since I didn't have to fix it.
HUGH! could not agree more about the keyboard & simplicity of these blackberry phones. i just did a vid on them as well cause i never got to use them but genuinely feel i would've been part of the blackberry demographic had i been old enough to use one back then! glad you're still able to use & repair this thing, great video as always!!
Have you ever thought about one of those magnetic cables - the plug stays permanently in the charging port & the cable attaches with magnets to charge it
My KeyOne Black Edition is systematically falling apart lol the back door case teeth broke off one by one (I glued it on with superglue). The touch ID on the spacebar was the first to go and just stopped all of a sudden, then q letter fell out of the keyboard which i also superglued back into place and then this summer i woke up and the screen had fallen out on my bed so i superglued that back into place too. I do think the battery needs to be changed soon but it seems to function ok and i can usually get most of the day out of it as long as i don't use draining apps. I would love to get the Key2 Red Edition but they are still so expensive for how old they are.
Whaty i usually do when replacing a battery in a rare phone is just look for similar sized battery for another more common phone. On the battery you can see size printed on the label (for example 1CP5/62/79, which means one battery with size 5x62x79mm). After buying similar sized battery, just swap the bms from an old battery to a new one. This indian level of repair allows you to buy a better quality battery for a cheaper price
I can't imagine using a phone that's running a year's old security patch in this day and age. I guess so long you aren't going on suspicious websites or logging into banking applications you aren't running a huge risk though.
Are there any custom roms for your phone? If yes, have you thought of updating your Blackberry to it?

I was also using a 6 years old phone until recently. It just became too slow for normal usage as a main phone. The battery is still good, the camera is decent enough and everything works, so its really unfortunate that it's just so slow. I had a feature phone (dumb phone) with physical qwerty keyboard just when smartphones were getting popular. I always wanted a smartphone with physical keyboard, but smartphones with physical qwerty keyboard were too expensive for me at the time that feature phone died, so i got stuck with "normal" smartphone and when that died, the era of physical qwerty keyboards was gone. In Europe there are thankfully a lot of new phones with dual SIM capability. Even the lower tier ones.
Still have a key2 and love the keyboard. It's just that almost no (native) apps work and because of old authentication for email it's difficult to use for Hotmail. You want it? Maybe use it for parts or as a new daily driver?
4:45 Is it really fine to use a metal tool in the charge port? I've always used wooden toothpicks out of fear of shorting something or damaging the port
I so miss physical keyboards. LG envy V2 was such a great pocketable cell phone. if it has had Android and a edge to edge full screen, it would have been perfect.
Bro bout to being black berry back with a single video. I wish we still had physical keyboards, I’d buy a sidekick Ztoday!!!! I still have my 2/3 but a lot of phones don’t work anymore because they did away with 3g and below smh.
Where do you get your iPhone back glass replacements? And your Apple batteries? , I need to do a 11 and iPhone 12 battery replacement. Was wondering were to get them. I know there’s cheap ones on Amazon and there’s ifixit kits. But I don’t know what one to use
would've gone with the blackberry key too if is wasnt for the VoLTE requirement with local carrier these days, swear some old phone I have does support VoLTE but somehow the band for those are not used by my carrier forcing me to actually getting a much newer phone
Honestly i miss the priv 1 and the compact of the xperias... I would like to tackle designing a frame to machine in aluminium and use some donor phone to work the software and hardware easier into a priv like phone but slightly smaller like a compact
I might have missed it but can you link where you get the liquid adhesive or the adhesive tape you used to seal the phone? I’ve been trying to find some but can’t seem to find any when I try and look
I actually think my phone has a dual SIM tray, but I only have it for the one card. It's not as old as Hugh's Blackberry though, with it being about 4 years old.

You don't need to install a new type-c port, you just need to clean the dust from the old one. Through all the years im fixing the phones i never saw a worn out type-c port. Just a little bit cleaning and its working like new.
As stated in the video, it had issues even after a thorough clean and he broke the antenna connector removing it anyway.
Good on ya for keeping it going against the odds. I have a relic I want too! The Lumia 930 still calls to me!!!
Fun tip for anyone trying to source batteries and hoping to avoid the sea of fake "OEM" batteries. Polar cell in Germany manufactures decent replacement batteries, as does cameronsino under the x-longer brand. Much better than risking a probably crappy "OEM" replacement battery
Keep up with the good content!
🔥Blackberry was very successful in Brazil. If it had accepted to innovate, today it would be a giant company.😅😅
The LG V20 is my daily driver. Surprises that these phones are quite well performing :)
Miss my Priv. Kept using it as long as I could.
Love your videos it shows enthusiasm in fixing devices. Important message.
the charging port issue happened to my s22+, used a needle to clean it up, it was better than te sim ejecting tool, saved me a lot of money since I didn't have to fix it.
have this phone since 8 years, so sturdy, and works still perfectly...just needed a new battery after 6 years of daily usage
My last blackberry was retired 2 weeks ago, still use it for podcasts at home though.
So close to 1Mil Subs, Keep going❤
I use a sliver of wood to clean USB ports. Started doing that with micro USB.
I cut the sliver from a wooden stick of the type used for cocktails.
HUGH! could not agree more about the keyboard & simplicity of these blackberry phones. i just did a vid on them as well cause i never got to use them but genuinely feel i would've been part of the blackberry demographic had i been old enough to use one back then! glad you're still able to use & repair this thing, great video as always!!
I'm going to purchase a blackberry as well so I don't get stuck watching Hugh Jeffreys videos all the time 😏😂
This channel inspired me to get into phone repair thanks!
8:48 this means the "cunterfit" its actualy a remanufactured just with the offlical braning applied even though its not
Was just looking for a key2 that's crazy how u uploaded at the same time !
Oh, how I miss having a physical phone keyboard! I had the Nokia 5510, then the 6820, and later an imate i9502. Never had an Android one though!
Have you ever thought about one of those magnetic cables - the plug stays permanently in the charging port & the cable attaches with magnets to charge it
omg i love the design and physical keyboard
My KeyOne Black Edition is systematically falling apart lol the back door case teeth broke off one by one (I glued it on with superglue). The touch ID on the spacebar was the first to go and just stopped all of a sudden, then q letter fell out of the keyboard which i also superglued back into place and then this summer i woke up and the screen had fallen out on my bed so i superglued that back into place too. I do think the battery needs to be changed soon but it seems to function ok and i can usually get most of the day out of it as long as i don't use draining apps. I would love to get the Key2 Red Edition but they are still so expensive for how old they are.
i was a Blackberry Fan user from 1999 - 2018
nothing replaces a physical Keyboard =)
Watching this video reminds me how much I miss my Blackberry days.
This indian level of repair allows you to buy a better quality battery for a cheaper price
i have a Priv..love it..works flawless
I can't imagine using a phone that's running a year's old security patch in this day and age. I guess so long you aren't going on suspicious websites or logging into banking applications you aren't running a huge risk though.
My KeyOne was all right, but could not hold a candle to my Passport. Best BB phone they made.
I tried to buy a passport for 30 bucks but it was first come first serve and I lost the race to the guys house by like 5 minutes
Great video as always Hugh. Would you consider trying to add wireless charging functionality to your blackberry?
4:45 Is it really fine to use a metal tool in the charge port? I've always used wooden toothpicks out of fear of shorting something or damaging the port
Ooooh sweet nostalgia
I so miss physical keyboards. LG envy V2 was such a great pocketable cell phone. if it has had Android and a edge to edge full screen, it would have been perfect.
Bro bout to being black berry back with a single video. I wish we still had physical keyboards, I’d buy a sidekick Ztoday!!!! I still have my 2/3 but a lot of phones don’t work anymore because they did away with 3g and below smh.
Hugh is gonna have 1 MILLION SUBS soon!!!
Please make more videos. I miss your phone repair contents 😥😥
I LOVE PRIV. Hope someone will revive the form factor and design
I miss my Blackberry Z10.
Samsung still makes dual SIM phones. It's just that they stopped selling these in Australia.
I still miss the Passport I had. Bloody lovely phone. The Z30 I had before was pretty decent too. 🙁
So, you are the 0% of the BlackBerry market, that's so cool!
That broken plastic around the phone and the charge port is terrible
I actually think my phone has a dual SIM tray, but I only have it for the one card. It's not as old as Hugh's Blackberry though, with it being about 4 years old.
Can you put a link up of the exact adhesive strips you used to put the back cover on please 🙏
