That mix was horrible ... it sounded as though he recorded the entire band plugged directly into the console with no amplifiers along with a 1980s midi drum kit ... cheap Walmart sounding mix. SSL allowing this type of work to represent their gear is sad.
@@montyrayza7220 hmm. listening through my AKG k712s plugging into my audio interface I'll vehemently disagree with this. the mix actually sounds big as hell. Walmart sounding mix sounds almost personal. Did Joe fuck your woman my guy?
Great but that's not what we're here for. We're here to discuss the plugin and its exact sound characteristics. Everybody ranting around and arse kissing in every comment is a bit annoying
Fantastic video. Joe is so relaxed and understated when he's showing us how he works, but MAN does he know exactly what he's doing at a very deep level. My music work is in a completely world but I always know I'm going to pick up a handful of gems from Mr. Carrell.
This is awesome! I love TDR and talk to Andrew a bit! So glad you picked this tune to demo this. Just got SSL Complete for free as part of Slate All Access and still learning what it can do!
This was a great video. See I had no idea about SSL 360 and that virtual console so now I gotta learn more about that whole process but this was great!
Absolutely stunning video. That's exactly the kind of video i was waiting for : someone pro showing us a very good rock song being mixed with SSL plugins. I really hope you gonna show all the other instruments and maybe the work you did on busses and master channel. Thank you very much!
Great song and mix. Would like to see more of Joe's mixing tips using SSL plugins. Just picked up the SSL UC1 and UF1. Makes mixing much more enjoyable and the plugins sound amazing.
Listen to me Carell This has to stop, lol you make it look so easy You killed it. We all just ordered all of the plugins and those hip bracelets you Have on there so our mixes sound right !
Robert installed 12 channels of the Pultec style into the main console at Robert Lane Studios when we where getting ready to take the 12 channels of API 525C and API 550 out of the end of the console and put it into the custom retractable side car that I made for them. Those channel strips sounded magical!
I really enjoy learning from Joe. He seems to read my mind on what I want to know and has fantastic intuition on what I need to know. More Joe training... SSL increase the Joe budget I trust him and buy from his input.
Just great Joe! I'm so happy to see you're using the SSL 360 system also. The guys at SSL told me the 4E was coming soon, but I didn't know it was going to work with my UC-1. Thank you for going through the whole vocal processing with the bundle elements and showing how you would use these plugins on a great genre pick like this song demonstrates. I really appreciate all the details you went into here. You Rock man! Can I please ask what those 2 pairs of monitors are that you have with this studio setup? Thanks again!
Big thanks Joe, loved that vocal chain walk through 🎤🙌🏻 I’m using the SSL subscription package and this is great to be able to watch. Looking forward to the drums!! All the best
Absolutely love the 360 concept. Right now I only have the UC1 but intend to get the UF8 and UFI. I hope SSL enables the track/plugin follow in Pro Tools like it does in Studio One and Cubase. My mixing decisions have been much faster as I use 360 to mix instead of my DAW.
So do we got to buy it when we own the UC1 because on the 4kB launch you guys say on the page it is included and on the 4kE page it say Complete bundle or rent to own or perpetual. This is what you guys promised don’t break you guys promise. And when it do be something coming to the UC1/UF8/UF1 that would cost the user money we should be informed before time with media on the update before a release that cost. When you promised free plugins and updates coming and the second plug-in become for sale I hope it’s just a role out mistake.
Hello David! I do it both ways actually. Sometimes I want the high frequency boost to be a little more lively and not “reigned in” and will EQ after the compressor. Other times I’m trying to put a cap on it or even create some extra pop with the compressor and will use the EQ prior. I don’t think either way is right or wrong. It’s whether or not one method or the other is better for that specific task.
Sorry a bit late to this party. I'm seriously thinking about getting the UF8 UF1 and UC1 hardware. It's a lot of money for me so i just need to understand it. So when using the hardware is all that reflected in my pro tools project? Such as volume, panning, my other plugins etc? Also near the beginning uou talk about the UF8 faders. Are tbey controlling the Pro Tools faders or the channel strip faders? If they are independent of the Pro Tools faders, would you leave the Pro Tools faders at unity and just adjust the channel strip faders. Sorry but I'm a bit confused. I think what i really want to do is not use a keyboard and mouse much, look at my screen less and use my ears more. But I still want all the features of Pro Tools and have tbe hardware control that. Sorry if that doesn't make sense. But i worry about everything. Especially with a large investment.
That’s an old argosy. But I am Changing out to a new session desk brand This weekend. The monitor will be lower to help fight chronic neck pain, and I will be able to get a center speaker in for Atmos.
Is this template available? I would like to use it with my new complete set up and try and re-create with a pop track and an R&B track. If so, can you let me know? Thanks in advance
Good morning. That re-mix was something that I did for the video only and no template was used. Not a bad idea for a future video though! Congrats on your new complete setup and best wishes
Might be my ears, or it could be the UA-cam algorithms, but there are some hefty plosives sneaking through all the processing, including the words "pride" and "past". What's the best plugin, using only the SSL Complete range, for eliminating those plosives and taming them?
Nice!! Congrats because you are going to love it. Concerning the Harrison plug-ins I honestly don’t know the answer to that. We will have to let our friends from SSL chime in
OK, so this is called SSL 360 video. Which is OK. However, you are using the Mouse 95% of the time. I would have liked to have seen how you are using the knobs of the controllers to modify these Plugins. It's as if, you don't need all the Hardware Controllers in front of you?
It’s not required that you use it for anything more than updating your firmware or something like that. But if you are into it and enjoy it, then it is there waiting happily.
@@levondarratt787I just got a cheap chinese brand touch screen that is connected to my Mac Mini M2 via just thunderbolt cable. There is a paid software (USD100 lifetime license) that enables smooth touch screen integration with macos. I set the things in a way that Pro Tools is on my main big screen and I have this 16 inch touch as a control surface practically. 1/3 of the screen is my Soundflow 8x10 deck and any plugin I open it opens in the remaining part of the screen. Plenty of space to touch any button on any plugin. On top of everything, main screen and touch screen have separate spaces on mac so when I slide my desktop on touchscreen to access the SSL360 mixer, the main monitor stays on Pro Tools.
