The tradition continues as Tyler heroically battles seemingly insurmountable forces. Tonight’s presentation manages to spoil an indoor respite from a windy and uncomfortable storm, confronting our warrior with more than his usual mechanical and electrical challenges. Indeed a damaged wing sits forlornly next to the couch from which it was severed, somewhat darkening Tyler’s mood, and subtracting no small amount of joy from his fan collecting pursuit. On to the fans themselves: they’re junk. All but the vintage 1958 all metal box fan which undoubtedly turns out less air more inefficiently and noisily than a $20 plastic available from Home Depot. The headline here is the endearing, almost winsome, tone which draws the UA-cam viewer in. Recollections of a simpler and more innocent pre-air conditioned world come immediately to mind. Tyler, thanks for your wonderful presentation.
My god, I had that exact model Hassock Fan with the top, used it at work under my desk, we had no Air Cond.. We also, still have a bigger fan than that Box fan, it's got the same shape and color frame, with the in and out switches, moves a ton of air. We also have a fan at the lake cottage, it's on a chrome metal base with a airplane style blade, made of bakelite. It's about 30in with a 5 speed pull chain switch, I cleaned it all up years ago, works like a dream, sounds like a airplane when on speeds 4 or 5! I didn't know anyone else liked old fans.
I'm not a collector, but I like fans also. And now this may get your attention: I like toilets! And I've subscribed to several YT channels where the hosts hook up vintage commodes in their collection to the outside hose, and flush them for the camera. I know it's weird but some of them take me back, like the cars and trucks of my youth. 😊
I hadn’t thought about Emerson in forever. I assumed that it was another old brand, like RCA and Westinghouse, that was long gone but still marketed their name to about any Chinese junk importer who was willing to pay up to use the name rights and print up some labels to slap on their junk and impress consumers with the illusion of quality because of the name ... but no, apparently Emerson is still alive but I doubt they still make house fans nor the old record players that I remember them for. The green box fan reminds me of one that I grew up around. It was originally my grandparent’s fan, then my aunts, then my dad got it. It was used in the basement for years, to blow the dampness around. It had a push button switch that turned it on and off as well as changed the speeds. If you pressed it too hard; too fast, it would shoot sparks out at you and getcha! I really don’t recall if it finally died or was just tossed out during the big “moving purge of 1986”. At that time, it had a retail value in the negative numbers ... even less in non-operable condition!
I normally do the same look at the ground and corners one time that failed me and I almost missed a little Westinghouse at a margin of 25 dollars that Emerson is defiantly a 16” they are pretty good fans and very efficient with a capacitor
I miss going to estate sales and junk (antique) stores big time.... Have not been to any since the pandemic began. Your Emerson will have a transformer in the base, for speeds.... they just changed the voltage to the motor, for speeds. Be super careful soldering wires to it. I try to solder to whats left of the old wiring, as far from the transformer as I possibly can. That has-sic fan, should have a cone to deflect the air up and out, with a seat bolted to the top. I had a box fan like yours, it was a Eskimo, but I think they were made by Lasko, maybe. I saw a oscillating box fan once, at a junk store.... it had a $2000 price tag.... no thank you! They were louvres that were driven from the main motor.... same concept as the table fans. I see why they didn't sell well, there kinda a clumsy fan. You should plug your fans in, to see if they work, lol. I use all my vintage fans during the summer, as I like having the windows open, plus I get to use cool old fans..... Not into using the A/C unless it's hot, like upper 80,s or more.
Man I had a window fan that must have been from the 60s it was a bad ass fan had to be the full width of the window 3 speed and reverse.... Never have seen another one but if I do I will buy it! Made in the USA!
Nice ! I’ve always wanted a small blue vintage fan.. I have a few industrial vintage fans . Our precipitation is coming the form of snow.. getting a foot or maybe more.. we’ll see
I bought a metal box fan it has to be from the late 60's early 70's and it's called a Continental and it runs great but it's needing a good cleaning I paid $9 dollar's for it at a goodwill and I some similar online and they are going for $175-$200 bucks So I think I did good amazing how much they are worth now. Cool video.
Hey!!!! This is Jami that used to live across the street from you in Albertville! I send you an email!!! Binge watching your videos rn. I hope you are well!
Hey, Ty, I have a 88' SE reliant, The engine overheated and cracked and/or warped. Do you know any place that sells 2.2Ls? Other than general flea markets and swap shops.

You have a nice collection of fans, Tyler. That was an interesting video. Thanks for sharing. Those fans were definitely built to last.
I really like those old box fans, think I'll have to get one shipped over one day. Never seen anything like them this side of the pond.

There are many of us.
Old fans, old cars, old yard equipment, old computers, old stereos, and other old electronics. I wonder how much crossover there is in these circles.
I like going to antique stores to and I have some antique fans to but nice fans you got there

Gotta love the antique stores Tyler! :) Never know what you'll find!
Great selection of vintage fans
First on is my fav... i really like the kinda fans that go in front of Mopar engines🏁👍
The black fan second from the left reminds me the one my mother had from the mid 1950s.
