Die Talyllyn Railway, Wales (The Talyllyn Railway)

Die kleine Stadt Tywyn bildet den Ausgangspunkt der Talyllyn Railway. Diese Schmalspurbahn ist nicht nur die älteste Museumsbahn in Wales, sondern sogar die älteste der Welt, denn sie wird bereits seit 1951 von Ehrenamtlichen museal betrieben. Die Strecke führt in ein beschauliches Tal in den Cambrian Mountains. Hier erinnert noch vieles an ihre ursprüngliche Bedeutung für den Schieferabbau, dem sie ihre Existenz verdankt. Der Personenverkehr spielte ursprünglich nur eine geringe Rolle. Am Endbahnhof Nant Gwernol laden verschiedene Wanderwege zum Erkunden der Gegend und des alten Steinbruchs Bryn Eglwys ein.
Dieser Film besteht hauptsächlich aus Teilen meiner Filmreihe "Auf Schienen durch Wales", in der weitere Museumsbahnen und normale Bahnstrecken im Norden des Landes vorgestellt werden, und dem Video "Schiefer aus Bryn Eglwys", ergänzt durch einige neue Aufnahmen.
The small town of Tywyn is famous for the Talyllyn Railway. This narrow gauge line is the oldest heritage railway in the world, operated by volunteers since 1951. The line runs up the scenic valley of the Afon Fathew in the Cambrian Mountains. Many remains of the past reflect the Talyllyn's importance in the local slate mining, which is the reason for its existence. Passenger traffic originally played only a minor role. At the line's terminus Nant Gwernol there are many options for hiking, including a trail up to the old slate quarry of Bryn Eglwys.
There is a film series "Auf Schienen durch Wales/On rails through Wales" on my UA-cam channel showing some more narrow gauge lines and regular railways in the northern part of Wales, including the Great Orme Tramway, Conwy Valley Line, Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway, Cambrian Line and Vale of Rheidol Railway.
