I was veery into all kinda music 10 years ago, like obsessive type and noticed Laced Up in this one download site where was always good stuff. Listened from youtube Chip Off The Block and then downloaded the album. Since the first song I heard I knew he could rap but major labels were first pushing him in pretty weard direction so it took time for him to come up and he wasn't impressing anyone much. Good to see him doing more what he wants these days since when he got signed it was trash after trash and you know how labels work. They were trying to get the party song hit. It's best to let an artist grow naturally and do what they want, there is a reason you signed them so I don't get why they then try to fit these artists into molds that isn't even close to what they heard when they decided to sign them. I get trying to help elevate what they are doing but it hardly is that.
It's kinda like when J.Cole did the song Work Out which is trash but the kinda songs that rose the charts at the time and then he basically says in Let Nas Down that it was trash song and label needed a hit for his record to be published and that was the song.
